gaming Game Discussion: What's Wrong with EA?

Well, every company is after money, but not every company is so obvious and oblivious about it as EA. Personally, I'm not fan of the "Buy company, use their franchise and then either absorb them / disband them" tactics.

I'd just like to note EA is first and foremost a titan of publishing, rather than a development house. People seem to forget that one quite often.

Tho what bugs me the most is their, I don't know what should I call it -  Lack of communication? Invalid reasoning?

You know, region X has higher piracy rate and lower average income than US, so EA decides to lower the price of games in the region...- Just joking. Of course EA decides to make the games in region X more expensive than in US to compensate for the piracy, which just doesn't make sense for obvious reasons. Well, at least I think it is obvious. Problem is that other publishers look at it and follow the trend quite often, which is very destructive to some markets.

Well, that's just a little example, but in short - they go after money and don't care how many studios will die and how many loyal customer bases will be cracked, they tend to rush developers too much, they lie a bit more than they should and they have very devastating effects on markets in many regions. Tho they are not this evil corporation many people imagine.

They publish some good games, their practices are some of the worst.

Worse than Activision IMO (Acti is just a very focused company that only wants blockbuster franchises.)

The DRM, the consuming studios, the bad PR (Hiring actors to play religious fanatics to protest Dante's Inferno (Yeah real nice reinforcing negative stereotypes to sell your game. Capcom should have paid black people to call RE5 racist), micropayments in full-priced games (For assets that already existed in the game no less), shabby treatment if Medal of Honor, 500 dollars to own all of the Sims 3... Uhh. I could go on.

-Mass effect. Despite being produced mainly by Bioware EA had a say in it. And that won all the awards. And Garrus.

-Witcher. If I remember, Witcher was made by EA. And those were (Apparently) good.

Other games- They have made good ones. Like some I cannot remember.

Also considering that they are an ass when it comes to DRM and all that; they're grabbing your attention so they're doing something right.

They've removed online passes and they've done away with a lot of DRM that used to be implemented. They're a great publisher and Origin is far nicer looking and better working platform than Steam.

People are just whiny fuckers and I'm fed up with them. Shut up and play the god damn games. <3

I'm sorry but Origin is so much worse then steam :x

There are so many bugs within origin that they just don't fix its unreal (like the whole multiplayer bug that lasted for weeks where you couldn't play certain games online).

I really want origin to be successful to give some healthy competition to valve, but they are making so many mistakes at the moment its unreal!

I used to love EA games, but it gets annoying having to sign in on random games all the time when I just want to get on with the game and play!

But you are right the games are whats important :)! (trying not to think about the sims)

I am not sure if this rumour is true or not but I heard that EA overwork their employees and sometimes force them to meet deadlines they just can't make, usually meaning the game comes out pretty shitty. But hey, they're only rumours...

In case of Mass Effect- 1 was great, but personally I didn't like 2 and 3 that much. Especially Mass Effect 3 was bad IMO (and not because of endings, I don't like it, because there were promised "serious consequences of choices from previous games. And only promises remained).

Witcher was made by CD Projekt Red, EA has nothing to do with it. But Witcher 1 and 2 were awesome games for sure :)

Well, personally I don't find EA that bad. Except terrible customer service and numerous pointless DLCs there isn't much to blame them for. Also- they are not the only ones that release tones of DLCs (bear in mind, that this "DLC madness" began with horse armor from Oblivion, and EA had nothing to do with this game). Some skins or new weapons are now being sold as DLCs in many other games (for example there are skins to buy in Borderlands 2). But I really hate EA for one thing- origin. What's the point of installing another "steam wannabe" on PC? Isn't uplay enough? If every game company will do something like that then there will be no space left for actual games...
