Luna has her own palace - Lauren Faust

This comes from the discussion of Bat Ponies:

I guess the larger story here is Bat Ponies being their own race, and living within caves in the mountains. But I didn't know Luna had her own palace. And I always assumed the Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters was shared by them. Also, it's currently in ruins.

Thoughts? I wanna see Luna's pad!

There could be a possibility of Luna having her own pad with the Royal Bat Pony Guards, just in case of any enemy trying to break in and kill Luna. So, just a theory.

Oh yeah - I'm sure the girl needs her protection. I just always pictured her living in the same spot her sister does.

I like the idea of her retreating to her palace - perhaps during the daytime - to play video games.

Well, Luna is known for her video games. I was definitely kidding about the guards protecting Luna from enemies, but Luna needs to focus on more games.

Hm, so far we only tend to see Princess Luna with Princess Celestia at her castle in Canterlot. Maybe princess Luna is just forced to stay at Canterlot because the place needs fixing up? And with the bat ponies being a different race, how come they're not spread all over the place like the three other types of ponies? Even if they sleep during the day, that's not a very good reason for all of them to be withdrawn from the rest of Equestria. Heck, this could be very beneficial for business to have day and night ponies mixed together.

Bat ponies eh? I'm guessing this is going to be canon. I also thought that both Princesses shared the same castle in Canterlot..guess not!

Well I hope this new species isn't portrayed in a blood-sucking sort of way like bats tend to be. I like the idea of bat ponies though; hundreds of them flying into the night sky in search of...wait, aren't bats carnivores? So wouldn't that mean that these ponies...

Could the Palace of the Moon (seen in Episodes 1 and 2), be her home, now abandoned to the Everfree forest?

That might fit the scenario. Nightmare Moon certainly knew it's location. and the elements of Harmony were strategically placed there by Celestia.

That's the Abandoned Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters. It's supposedly where Luna and Celestia grew up together, and where Luna eventually became Nightmare Moon.

In the animatic for season 4, it looks like we're going to actually see how that happened in the castle itself, before it became abandoned.

But I don't think it's Luna's own domicile.

Indeed; it's a ruin that clearly isn't used anymore. If Luna has her own palace, it's elsewhere. Probably where she was during the Canterlot invasion involving Chrysalis and the Changelings, as we later saw her fly down from the dome, land and say 'hello, everypony. Did I miss anything?'

  • 3 years later...

in issue 8 of Friends Forever AJ mentions a "Nightmare Moon Mountain" existing, perhaps Luna's castle is located on top of that?

Given that she traverses dreams, maybe she made a castle out of dreamstuff that doesn't exist in the real world, explaining why we haven't seen it yet.

That I like. A lot. A really cool idea. th_thumbsup.gif

Presumably if you wanted to go there, or even see it, would have to be in a dream.

Personally I am in no doubt (and have readily accepted, rightly or wrongly) that we are talking about immortals here - goddesses - I mean, they can move the sun and moon around. Who else does that? :D Whenever I think about it I am always reminded of Egyptian mythology, Amun Ra and all that.
