Scariest Online Experience You've EVER Had?

Your computer is a girl?

If that happens often, then take it to a professional. If your computer overheats, that could be the problem. Overheating is most likely the problem, though.

First, yes she's a girl, the word computer in my language is actually a female word.

It also doesn't happen often and I know why it happened. It has been overheating problems but a few other times it was actually the motherboard.. My computer died because of it, I could have fixed her but it was expensive. She had already done her job, she was three years old and I loved her with all my heart. I feel sad just thinking about it, I can't think about this. My current computer just had overheating problems but I fixed that too, this never happens anymore. I care a lot about my current computer.

When I went on sourmath and the window wouldn't close, I was freaking out until I did ctrl alt delete. Sometimes when I go on chat avenue, there will be someone using scare tactics to trick girls into flashing them. The first time someone threatened to hack me it freaked me out a lot but I ignored them. But it doesn't happen very often. Not the only site I've been on where this has happened though. It doesn't freak me out anymore, it just makes me angry.

It was around 5 years ago, back then I used to be online with a Laptop. It was in the evening, I had my TV turned on, was watching a movie about some supernatural kid who was said to be the devil. There was one scene when the camera got up to that kid and it started smiling, then I noticed my Laptop's screen started flashing up in different colors and eventually turned itself off, there was a storm outside which didn't really help. I was so freaked out at that moment, turned off that TV and ran out of the room, I thought it would kill me lol, I guess you could count that as an online experience since I was online at that moment.

(By the way, later I found out that my laptop shut down because I used it for too long and it couldn't deal with it anymore)

Worst scare of my life..

Scariest thing I've ever found on the internet was the story about the possessed Zelda: Majora's Mask cartridge.  It freaked me out for days, no idea why.  (you can find it here if you're curious: http://inuscreepystuff.blogspot.com/2010/09/majora.html)

Oh, the jadusable story?  Man, I was there when that stuff was running live.  It was quite engaging, until it turned into some cheezy Youtube ARG, which then led into him advertising his new Kickstarter campaign.

Such a shame, the reactions and stuff he was posting was enough to give me the jibblies.

Yeah, I found it a while after the fact, and it gave me a serious case of the heebie-jeebies.  Couldn't look at a Zelda game for weeks afterward, heh.

Does this count?

Around a month ago, I was on holiday with my friend who kindly invited me to Wales. On the second night, we were bored and wanted to play Slender. The first time we downloaded it, it wasn't the actual game. It was just a map to walk around with Slender man frozen in place, and you could walk through him without being killed. After about 5 minutes we got bored and downloaded the real game. A few minutes of downloading later we opened it up. My friend clicked the 'Play game' button when suddenly the whole computer switched off. No low battery, it was plugged in.

Needless to say we didn't sleep well that night.

You know, I have some friendship problems, but I'm pretty sure scaring me won't solve them. Also I'm pretty sure Applejack was looking for Twilight. Maybe she should go to Applejack?! I'm pretty sure she has a friendship problem to solve :D

I've actually managed to avoid all hacking and jumpscares on the internet. :D But, dang, the Creepypasta story Symmetry was freaking scary. That counts right? If you really want to get the full experience of that story, go listen to Cry Reads: Symmetry. I'll even put a link for you.

Ah, Cry makes everything better, especially creepypasta.

I should really try my hand at creepypasta reading. I'd done some SCP stuff in the past, but not my best work. I really should give it another shot.

My scariest online experience and something I totally HATE are those "shocking comics", where you have to scroll down to read the comic and suddenly there's an animation with a creepy picture and often also sound. I can't read them, I hate them and a friend of mine shocked me some years before. I thought my hearth would stop. x____x

Most of what people are describing is called a "Screamer" and it was a scary experience. It happened to me when I was younger (back when YouTube was still catching on). A screamer being a video with a "bait and switch" arrangement. You watch a video (or sometimes play a game) that can look as innocent as MLP and at the end you are scared by a ear piercing deafening scream accompanied by a disturbing hard to look at image. I found out about it when i was watching an episode of Hey Arnold on YouTube (before Viacom got all sour) and it was the episode where Helga is having a daydre about Arnold and right before she kisses him I'm greeted with a screamer. Some people who don't understand why it's terrifying probably haven't been caught off guard by one (rather just someone showed them what it was and thus takes the element of surprise away) after your first encounte with a screamer you never want to have a second. There's only 2 ways to know if an video is going to be a screamer. The first is if the audio on the video is abnormally low. This forces you to turn your speakers up before the scream. Second is the comment section. If you open a video and see all the comments say "oh damn that scared me" or something like that its probably a screamer. The only fool proof way to find out is to scroll to the end and see if its there.

I've had that problem before with my laptop, usually due to it overheating from running programs such as games.

Okay my experience... (thinking)

Ah yes it happened in school actually. One of my friends presented this weird online graphic novel in class. Ended with a terrifying quick movement towards the screen of a dead Asian crawling on all 4 legs.
