3. Generation 4

4. Generation 5

Call me genwunner, I don't care, everyone do. It's just a poor excuse to belittle the ones who like the first gen the most and don't like the most recent gens. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In terms of the games themselves, gen 5.

They had a more engaging player and story progression than the others in my opinion. The region was decent, annoying elements in a lesser extent. Overall smoother transitions, which is quite obvious.

Gen 2

Gen 4

Gen 3

Gen 1

In terms of pokemon....i've to say gen 4.

Good middle ground for design and type distribution. Evolutions introduced to older gen pokemon. (Froslass, Mismagius, Glaceon, Leafeon, etc) Overall a good selection for old and new fans alike.

Gen 5

Gen 2

Gen 3

Gen 1

No offense/hate to people who prefer gen 1, it's just too bland from every standpoint to me. There are a few good bits here and there but overall nothing that impress me. Frankly, majority of its popularity is carried by nostalgia from the old gen fans.

Trubbish and Vanillish are not that bad if you look back at Voltorb, Exeggcute, etc

I cant STAND gen one. The pokemon, cities, gym leaders is all yawn worthy

Its also aged horribly and the glitches are horrid

Gen 4 is a masterpiece I love everything about it

1. Generation II

2. Generation IV or V (I'm undecided, really)

4. Generation I

5. Generation III

It's really a pretty tough decision for me, aside from putting Generation II at #1 and Generation III at the bottom. Generation I, of course, was special. However, I felt that Generation IV and V were amazing in their own ways, and I'm tired of everybody treating them like trash. I especially can't understand the hate for Generation IV. Generation IV finally added back the features that Generation III stupidly removed.

Gen 2 is my absolute favorite. It's so good. They did so much right with it, the day and night cycle, Johto is by far the best region.. I really love GSC.

Next would be Gen 5, which everybody seems to treat like trash behind their nostalgia goggles. I love the region and most of the Pokémon. If you hated Gen 5 I really want you to try Black or White 2. BW wasn't that great, but BW2 is much better, especially in the Pokémon choices.

Gen 3 is next, which was my first.

Gen 4 which I never really got into and only beat once.

Gen 1 has aged quite terribly. The best part are the Pokémon, and the games were greatly improved on by the 3rd gen remakes.

Objection! Hold it! Take that! Gotcha! Eureka!

I like video games and anime.

Rank your favorite Pokemon generations. My personal favorites are Gen 1 (Red, Blue, Yellow) and Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal). It's basically a tie between those two.

1. Gen 2/Gen 1

2. Gen 3

3. Gen 5

4. Gen 4

You have the exact same opinion as me! My favorites are both 1 and 2 (can't decide!), Gen 3, Gen 5, and Gen 4 very last, because it has hardly any Pokemon I would consider 'okay'.

Gen 6 is looking like it will fit between 5 and 4. It may turn out better then Unova though. But after the starters evolutions, I'm not so sure....

(Generation 5 had a few gems, though! Oshawott is a great line and Braviary is amazing!)

1. Gen 3 - God, i fell in love with this one hardcore. Like, since it was its completely own thing (no older pokemon in it, not connected to the other areas) it just really stood out to me.

2. Gen 4 (more specifically Platinum version)

3. Gen 2 - i spent too much time playing crystal. For some reason id always go back to it. That and the night and day feature as well as the option to play a girl were quite neat.

4. Gen 1

5. Gen 5 - i guess gen 1 and 5 are tied as i don't really have one i like better. I mean, i like 5, but it doesn't stand out much other than some of the pokemon in it so its pretty much in the same boat as 1.

My list is as follows:

1. Gen 2

2. Gen 1

3. Gen 5

4. Gen 4

5. Gen 3

I don't know what it is about it, but I really cannot stand gen 3. I think it's the really ugly starters that made me hate it.

I love all of them, but if I have to list:

1. Gen 5

2. Gen 3

3. Gen 2

4. Gen 4

5. Gen 1

Evidently, my opinions are quite unpopular. Gen 5 was amazing, IMO.

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

Luxray is my all time favorite Pokemon, and he's from the Sinnoh region, which is Gen 4. Gen 5 was pretty good, although my brother took the game from me so now I can't complete it...the others are alright.

Gen 3 is my favorite since it introduced some of the best Pokemon and Hoenn was an awesome region. Gen 5 is right up there since it also brought up some cool new Pokes and has better mechanics than the older generations. Gen 4 is the one I really got started with, so it has the most nostalgic value and easily the most play time for me. I have yet to play the original (i.e. not remakes) first two generations, so I doubt I'd like their outdated mechanics. At least Gen 2 added Dark and Steel-types.

1. Generation 3: G3 set a lot of important standards and traditions for all future Pokemon games, and it was a lot more new and original than G2 ever hoped to be. The Pokemon designs ranged from quirky to cool, and all of them were original. This generation also introduced natures, abilities, double battles, contests, better breeding mechanics, and in-game weather effects. The Hoenn region itself remains the most inspired, colorful, and unique of all of the regions.

2. Generation 5: G5 was not the most innovative of all the generations, but it fine-tuned so many things that it feels very polished, fast-paced, and a lot of fun. The new battle sprite animations make the gameplay a lot more engaging and less repetitive, and the much improved speed from last generation is much appreciated. G5 added in triple battles and rotation battles, adding for even more battle strategies. And lastly, G5 gave us the most new Pokemon of any generation thus far, and while not every design is a winner, there's a lot of unique and original Pokemon to be seen.

3. Generation 1: I grew up loving to play my Red and Blue versions, and the original Kanto Pokemon games are still fun even today. One of the things that will always stand out about RBY is the vast number of glitches, all of which are very intriguing. To be fair, I'm probably only putting G1 this high up out of nostalgia.

4. Generation 4: G4 made a huge change to way Pokemon battles are played, and that's due to the physical/special split. Moves were no longer considered physical or special based upon their types, but rather the moves themselves. G4 also brought back the day/night system, but it improved it by adding evening and morning times as well. My main criticisms of G4 are the slow pace of the Pokemon battles, the bland and uninspired environments, and the lack of many truly "new" Pokemon (out of only 107 new Pokemon, many of them were just babies or evolutions of already existing Pokemon).

5. Generation 2: G2 added an awful lot to the series - genders, breeding, shiny Pokemon, day/night, and custom Pokeballs to name a few. While I enjoy all of the new features, I feel that too much of the game is a repeat of the prior generation. The land of Johto is very small and linear, and so while the first half of the game is fun, it's also short lived. Once you venture to Kanto, you'll be treated to a watered down version of the region you played in Red, Blue, and Yellow. The idea of two regions and being able to obtain 16 badges is a nice concept on paper, but too much familiarity makes the game feel more like a rehash than a true sequel or new game, and this is why none of the Pokemon games that followed GSC have allowed you to travel to a past region. I for one would much rather have one all-new high-quality region rather than two watered down ones. G2 was incredibly easy, ESPECIALLY during the run through Kanto, and it was difficult to level up because there were few credible opponents that offered good experience to your Pokemon. Combine all of this with the fact that so many events and items are distributed through the very time-demanding PokeGear, and you have a set of Pokemon games that are my least favorite by a wide margin. (Sorry G2 fans.)

Gen 3- It's the one I started with and a big part of my childhood.

Gen 2- Retro feel, but has some features that Gen 1 didn't.

Gen 1- The first, and the least colorful. average.

Gen 4- too many Pokémon that I didn't like.

Gen 5- I didn't like almost any of the Pokémon, with the exception of Charmander.

1. Gen 3- Just brilliant. Music, map variety, Battle Tent, Pokeblocks... Could go on forever why this is the best Pokemon game ever, but I won't. I'll end it by saying, "The Aqua/Magma rivalry... I may or may not ship that."

2. Gen 5- Awesome. New setting, not so many market-pleasing legendaries, 3D maps, PokeStar Studios, utterly fantastic starter set, triple-battles; this game would only be better if they kept the Pokemon contest around.

3. Gen 1- Because running around is a pain in the ass, but Lavender Town, Cerulean City, the Safari Zone, Bird Trio and Gary plus finding things without the game telling you where they are save it from being any lower. Also... Nostalgia Filter runs high on this one.

4. Gen 2- Lugia is a boss, yes. New features, awesome. Not much more in terms of flavour in this game to justify its length. HG/SS destroyed their predecessors, by far the best of G4 and why it's still a good Gen despite its many flaws.

5. Gen 4- Poffins. Poffins ruin this Gen for me, even if I can participate in an expanded contest. But seriously, it's hackneyed, and burdened with being a game that was seemingly churned out just to make money. I experienced the RPG grind hardest in Pearl.

Gen 1

Those are the only 3 I played, and they are the only 3 I plan on playing. After Generation 3 I lost all interest in the series.
