gaming It's official, Capcom is screwed

Found an article that confirmed that Capcom has 152 million USD in the bank.

http://gaminrealm.com/2013/09/10/capcom-152-mil-bank/

To put that in perspective, Nintendo has at least 40 times that much in their accounts.  For a company the vast size of Capcom, 152 million is not sufficient to fall back on.  They can't afford to screw up anymore.  The only problem is that, even if they stop with all the idiotic things that got them in this mess, there are to many people dead set against Capcom.

Nintendo and Sony better get in the practice of buying other devs and publishers, because they have the best resources to do so.  And they are two of the few companies in this industry that still have good reputations.  It started with Sega running out of money (again), then Index--parent company of Altus--which Sega is ironically bidding on, and now Capcom is looking like it'll bite the dust.  It's only a matter of time before the same thing happens to EA and SquareEnix.

It's pretty obvious that the company is not under the lead of the right people. Bigheadedness won't get you anywhere other than closer to bankruptcy. People have no reason to go back and listen to the last cries of Capcom, because all the developers have fled to other companies, or made their own.

I don't think too many would care if they gave another Megaman game a try, because for one, everyone would suspect it getting canned, and two, Keiji Inafune, the original creator of the franchise is busy developing the new "anti-Megaman" with fan support.

Everyone gets what they deserve for their actions.

Well Monster Hunter 4 is about to come out in Japan, so I doubt Capcom will be short on money for much longer. :P

Yeah but really I think they'll be fine, or at least I hope they will. Sure, Capcom has made some dumb decisions lately, but they still make some of my favorite game series, it would be sad to see them go but I don't think they will.

So to try to get themselves out of this financial disaster, they're gonna...emphasize on those same tactics that got themselves there in the first place?

...You know what, they can rot for all I care. I hate what they've become this gen after so many classics, but if they want to set themselves up for failure, then so be it

So true, because it's different here than in japan.

For example, did you guys know that monster hunter portable 3rd for the PSP in japan sold 700,000 copies in a week when the system is pretty much forgotten?

It's capcom's "fastest selling game ever!" So I wouldn't be surprised if the fourth entry helps.

I don't think you understand just how big a hole Capcom is in.  For Monster Hunter 4 to alleviate their problems, it would have to sell 10 times better than the best selling game of all time, Wii Sports.

A single good selling game is not going to help.  They need, like 20 games that sell over 5 million units.  Even Capcom isn't crazy enough to expect that, especially when there current expectations of selling around 2 million units per game are not being met.

If you love Capcom's games, I'm sorry; but this is the reality.  Capcom is just not making enough money to sustain itself.

It's too bad Capcom is circling the drain. EA, on the other hand, is a company that I wish would start circling the drain some day real soon.

Oh, you wait, EA will fall as well.

Yeah but I mean what do you expect them to have after all the blunders recently?

Capcom has been teasing releasing a new Mega Man title for YEARS now and all they do after announcing them is cancel them. They milk the hell out of series like Street Fighter (how many versions do we need?) They make almost everything DLC related in games such as Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. They released the game incomplete and then go on to release the complete version not even a year afterwards. Capcom also has been running Devil May Cry and Resident Evil into the ground with the mediocre sequels they put out for their franchises and they really don't listen to what the fans want anymore. Capcom seriously needs to be slapped for what they have been doing recently it's so idiotic that a company as big and talented as Capcom has been falling off in recent years.  Well, atleast now they seriously don't have much to fall back on considering how much money they have left. I'd say get your head on straight and start doing things right. Hopefully for Capcom this is the beginning of something greater. Sometimes you have to fall down to get back up.

I honestly don't care, so long as Nintendo or some other third party buys the only Capcom IP's I care about, MegaMan, Ace Attorney and Monster Hunter. Capcom has made some really bad choices this generation and it would take them a miracle to become the well-respected company the were.

Objection! Hold it! Take that! Gotcha! Eureka!

I like video games and anime.

Not even that, but they have to manage their budgets as well. Remember, Capcom said that Resident Evil 6 was a failure even though it sold 4.9 million copies

That's bad. Really bad

Well, remember what happened with THQ. If they're failing to keep themselves afloat, then I think in the end all their assets (like Megaman) will be sold off to a company that knows what they're doing.

Why not? There's obviously not many people there who are making quality, lovable games, even if all our favorite franchises are there.

For instance, my favorite series, Phoenix Wright, is a Capcom property. But, I have full faith that at least one publisher out there sees how great it is, and failing Capcom, someone will re-hire him to work on the next game of its type. They may even buy the name "Phoenix Wright" to go along with it.

Well, we're getting Mighty Number 9, the spiritual successor to Megaman.  So there's that.

Seriously?  How much did they need to sell?

One Google search later...

7 MILLION!?  WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?

Well, I see what you mean by them having a horrible budget to rely on. But if they get screwed then tell them this "I told you so" :D

But that doesn't make any sense, $60 times 4.9M is a astronomical amount of money, they'd have to be the worst money handlers in history for that to not be enough from one game,

Capcom really can't pull themselves out of this, no matter what they try to pull.

They haven't been loyal to fans and decided to act strong-armed when they didn't have the wiggle room to do so. This isn't surprising and it's exactly what they deserve for being so fucking stupid when coming to recent business decisions. Unless they pull off something

HUGE, and I mean HUGE, they better not expect the market to keep them afloat. Their luck ran out once the DLC was implemented into every single goddamn game.

And/Or they're just a bunch of greedy f***ing pricks, which wouldn't surprise me considering Square Enix did something similar, where they considered Tomb Raider, Hitman Absolution and Sleeping Dogs to be disappointments even though they sold 3.4, 3.1, and 1 Million respectively

Damn, even of you were scrapping the bottom of the barrel and only getting like $10 profit per copy that's still massive amounts of money and a huge profit margin for the project. That's not even counting the additional money made on DLC for the games.

Shit, I just looked it up on Wikipedia and games that sold as little as 3Mill are on the best sellers list.

After what Capcom did to Devil May Cry and Megaman, I really do not feel bad for them anymore, though it is still sad. One of the original gaming juggernauts is now one of the leaders in bad decisions within the gaming industry. 'You want a new Megaman game? Well.....here is a brand new Dante instead!'

I am actually surprised by this news though. Capcom is currently developing/publishing an exclusive game for each of the 3 next gen systems and they all seem pretty big to me. Seems like a lot given their money issues, even though only one is a new IP. I bet that check from MS was huge.

Well over a quarter of a billion, even when you take out the retailers' cut.  What are they spending all that money on?

This is just sad, damn it Capcom how could you let this happen?

Push ups, sit ups, and plenty of juice.

Wait, I'm thinking of something else.  Why did I have to have a DBZ marathon?

DMC wasn't bad.  I will say they'd have been better off making it new IP rather than piss off the fanbase.

I haven't played DMC yet, but knowing it's story and the info the PR guy gave to Angry Joe at E3 they pretty much wrote a story that had nothing to do with Devil May Cry and slapped DMC characters on it(who are mostly DMC characters in name only).

The essence of a reboot is to rewrite a story or even start a new one. The idea that something has to be just like it's predecessor or even be connected to it only limits a franchise.

Plus the new DmC, aside from being extremely easy which is a downer for some people, is ten times the game any other game in the franchise was. Far more creative and well-designed levels, the story is far better and Dante is a better character than he ever was in the original games. Games like DmC should be saving the company but the fact that they outsourced it means they had to spend a ton of money on that as well.

Also, some people are mentioning Mighty No. 9 in this topic but I don't think it's associated with Capcom in any way. Keiji Inafune is creating it himself which is why there was a kickstarter for it so it could be funded since he's not with Capcom anymore.
