Hasbro's portrayal of Changelings

I think a lot of us are forgetting something very important - the only times we have seen the changelings was when they were at war.

 

 

If all you saw of any nation was what they looked like when they were claiming territory or fighting in wars, then they'd all look quite evil. For the changelings, love = food. The only option as they see it is to invade another land or starve to death. All we've seen of changelings are soldiers and their war queen. What about their families and children?

 

Queen Chrysalis is actually very reasonable in her actions - as the queen of the changelings, it is her duty to make sure her subjects live and prosper. She might've gone a little overboard with her taste for power, though. If she took a less aggressive stance towards others, I'm sure that a treaty could be worked out.

 

Chrysalis said, "My fellow changelings will be able to devour so much of it that we will gain more power than we have ever dreamed of!", indicating that sucking love out of creatures to the point of killing them is for the purpose of power, and isn't needed just to stave off hunger. It's possible that changelings can fill their stomachs just by being friends with ponies, with no adverse effects for either side.

 

I'd be interested in seeing the more cultural and social aspects of their race, and hope it'll be explored in season four.

You could argue that the Changeling's are very evil. As thier hard to indicate when thier disguised; a changeling could go in and get their fill of love and get out before anyone else even gets suspicious.

 

Chrysalis could've done many other methods to get food for her Changeling subjects and they agreed with the invasion on Canterlot instead of doing what they usually did in secret or simply making pac's with the ponies to co exist with them.

 

All Changeling aren't evil but Chrysalis gives all of them a bad name and the comics don't help improve thier image neither as the drones follow her commands.

I had this idea in my head of "what if they didn't start evil" when contemplating the nature of something like them feeding off love. I created a back-story for my AU where they started out benevolent. They were artists, performers, healers, teachers, musicians, any thing that allowed them to earn love from others. 

 

At one point a group that though them monsters found where they lived, they raided the place and killed everyone in their path. The survivor's were so angered that they became consumed with hate over the centuries that's what turned them into they are now. It corrupted and twisted them like sickness.
