Ponies and a lack of male friends.

You know at work i was mulling over the whole shipping argument,

and i thought
"you know why not take baby steps in the suggestion."

granted i know people who hate shipping will attack said steps with a ferocity of all the nine hells,

but than it occurred to me I could wrap up my argument in a bullet proof shield of the shows theme.

The show with out argument, is about friend ship.  Its the same reason why no one can groan about it coming up again and again.

Now I'll address the answer to the acceptations and the assumptions in one moment.

Only how many male friends does twilight have?

Apple jack?
rarity?

Pinkie pie?

Rainbow dash?

Flutter shy?

The irony?  rainbow dash is the one most surrounded by the chance of finding a guy.  I mean unless I miss my guess the majority of thunder bolts are guys.  So ironically enough of the main six the girl who's most likely to get paired up with a guy simply by probability is rainbow dash.  I don't have any complaints about this point, it's just kinda funny.

It would appear flutter shy has no male friends, but flutter shy is shy.  That's fairly par for the course.

Rarity flirtatious nature and how she lured two stallions to pull the carriage to the triple G suggests not only does she have stallion friends, but she likely dates.  She certainly knows how to work spike, she knows how to handle guys.

It's the sorta of experience i would suggest that only comes from hands on experience.  So i'm just assuming it's an off camera event, and again i suppose it's not a major thing.

Pinkie pie is literally everyones friend.

That kinda of leaves us with apple jack.

Now i'm gonna skip to twilight sparkle and her lack of male friends now because it's the most troubling case.

twilight sparkle is now a princess.  She's intended to succeed Celestial.  And yes she's friend with her brother, and spike, but come on?

I think it's a mistake they didn't go into twilight sparkles student life in her magic achemedy.

And if your going to point out celestial taught her one on one (which is a very viable head canon)

Didn't celestial create the problem of twilight's isolation in the first place?

I mean we lost out on twilight having friends, rival, from her days as a student if it was a one on one tutor ship.

Faust "head canon" (cause that's what it is now) is that trixie went to school with twilight.

I would have liked to see who else was in that class. I mean you could do a whole season on twilight's student life.  Maybe it's own sustained show.

Now with aj i think her job would keep her from making friends with a stallion unless he was some what similar to Big mac.  A strong work horse.  Apple jacks passion for her work would suggest for a stallion to be around apple jack long enough to make friends, he'd have to be one hell of a worker, in the vicinity of apple jack.

But hay i was just kicking around the idea that as the show stands the message that friend ship is magic kinda feels like
"If your the same sex."

Might explain why Big mac doesn't have any friends.

Who is shinning armors friends?  the guards?

A quick correction. They're the WONDER bolts, not the thunderbolts. biggrin.png

In regards to Twilight, nature is nature, no matter what the outside circumstances are. Meaning, even IF Celestia taught Twilight one on one instead of in a group, it doesn't have to mean that Celestia's at fault for Twilight lacking friends. Twilight could have been a hard studying, reading obsessed bookworm before even meeting Celestia.

Fluttershy's only male friend, if you can call him that depending on the episode, is Angel Bunny. (And don't say that he can't be a friend as he's a pet, as dogs are labeled as 'man's best friend') So a dating life is out of bounds unless she meets someone just as animal obsessed as she is.

And so on and so forth. It could just be that the Mane 5, not counting Twilight for obvious reasons, DO play the field. It's just not shown. In hearts and hooves day they made a point of Twilight being the only one to show up, and you know her only date was with a book. So where was the rest of them? It's left up to our imaginations. Were they dating, flirting, or just doing what they normally do? Who knows?

The lack of males is, I think, a function of an outside perspective. It's originally a show for little girls, who are stereotyped into loving ponies, thus nearly all the ponies who show up ARE girls. I think that there are just as many stallions as mares, but, again, they're just not shown as often for the reason stated above.

well the show has slowly been showing more and more male ponies on the show here and there.

Honestly?
If you wanna say "little girls show."
Home come more of the wonder bolts aren't girls?  I mean at least 50/50?  It's not even 40/60.

Is that just the one slip even Faust didn't think of?  (no ponies perfect,)

I'm not saying the male friends would even necessarily even need speaking roles.

I mean even the CMC don't have any male friends.

Think about this, if snips and snails buddied up to the cmc, they'd be a hats throw away from being friends with the main 6.

Really, those two would be 2 of the first male characters to be male friends with the lead.

there's something off about that.

You know funny point, sense we're talking about friends and relationships (as a sub point).

I would imagine pinkie pie has a black belt in keeping ponies in the friend zone.

Well how many guys have we actually seen in this show? Spike. Big Mac, Iron Will, Shining Armor, some of the wonderbolts, All of Celestia's royal guard, Mr. Cake, Jet Set, Fancy Pants, Snips and Snails, Prince Blueblood. There does seem to be more of a showing of guys in Canterlot at least. But that's about 15 guys. Well maybe more like 25. I'm remembering more, like DIscord, the buffalo, Braeburn, the sea serpent from the pilot. The girl ratio is significantly higher.

I couldn't say this better myself.

I thought Fluttershy and Big Mac were friends, but I immediately thought it wasn't canon, and it was just a shipping. It is a possibly that they are friends, but we've never seen them together(please correct me if I'm wrong).

As for Twilight Sparkle, she has Shining Armo(u)r, and some others I don't quite remember.

Pinkie Pie, she has Mr. Cake, and that donkey(?).

Rarity, I don't think she has any, but there is a shipping involving Big Mac and Rarity, but it isn't canon.

Rainbow Dash, I honestly have no fucking idea.

Applejack, she has Big Mac(yes, I know, they're brother and sister, but they can be BBFFFs!)

If this information is wrong, then please correct this in a new reply.

Also, *wonder bolts

Well technically Bic Mac and Fluttershy had an interaction during the Super Speedy blah blah 6000. They were all on the same team, after all.

Rarity could easily be dating someone as she has the flirting thing down pat.

Rainbow has a fan club dedicated to her, but outside of the Wonderbolts, I think that she'd need a guy who would compliment the crap out of her. It kinda feels like he would go more for her notoriety than to care about her directly. Kinda a 'cool by association' thing.

I have nothing against shipping itself, but I don't get Big Mac/Rarity. Big Mac is a farm worker, who's work would usually involve working hard, getting dirty and sweaty from plowing, which would be a turn off to her. We've seen from 'Party of One' when she makes Spike take out her garbage that even if she is the reason they're smelly, she doesn't like it.

Pinkie may be my favorite of the Mane 6, but she's got a ways to go before she's date-worthy. She needs to be able to tone down, respect people's privacy, and not force her idea of fun onto others, lessons she's slowly learning as the show goes on, but not many people can take nonstop fun and activities. You have to have some downtime.

I think Applejack would find dating easier now. If it had been at the start of the series, her pride would definitely get in the way.

Don't forget guys, there is 1 more male and this male is friends with Pinkie Pie. Pound Cake, is also a male character. True, Pound Cake can't really be used for shipping or say much, but to me he is still Pinkie Pies closes friend, who is a guy.

Also for all we know the others do have male friends it's just not strong relationships.

AJ maybe friends with other farmers in Ponyville and they could be male. If you ask me, AJ could hirer a few other ponies to work on the farm.

In Hurricane Fluttershy, we see all kinds of male pegasus. Some might be even be friends RD.

Rarity most likely has all kinds of clients who are guys. As for friends it's hard to say.

Fluttershy is shy, so who knows.

As for Twilight, if we remember in the first episode we see Twilight running towards that library and she pass those other ponies who were going to a party. At the end they say, "She is always studying," or something like that. What I'm getting at is, Twilight most likely studied with Celestia and went to class with others. So in the beginning Twilight was always studying and never was around other that much.

Tbh there all kinda to busy to go out seeking male friends and they rarely socialise at places where guys are. Infact the most likely meet other stallions are Rarity (because its the only place the fancy stallions can get anything tailor made in ponyville) and rainbow dash while she's at the acadamy or at the various Wonderbolt try-outs & events.

AJ is on her farm on the edge of town, Flutter's house is out of ponyville, and Twilight is either studying or reading and no stallion alive is brave enough to ask Pinkie out (and she knows every stallion by name)
