You have seen it. It's all over the internet, and especially common here. I'm talking about people who use canon pony names, or other fictional character's names as their online pseudonym. I've seen countless Rainbow Dashes, Rarities, Pinkie Pies, et cetera, et cetera, and honestly, it's a little jarring. Confusing, to say the least.

Now my question is, why? You have a brain that is capable of wondrous things. You can use the power of imagination to come up with a unique, and meaningful username that speaks to you. You can combine words together and make a clever username. You can be silly, and have a comical username. So why take the incredibly dull, easy, unoriginal route and use a fictional character's name as your pseudonym? It's almost a waste of opportunity, if I do say so myself.

Now, I don't have anything against the Pseudoponies here, but I just think it's rather silly that people can't think outside the box, and express their artistic values when choosing usernames. It's no doubt hard to take them seriously sometimes, especially when they roleplay as the character with every post they make... *shudders*

Now those are just my briskly worded opinions. What are your views on the subject?

We dont seem to see eye to eye on much but I would have to agree with you there! I don't really care what names people use but when I see something like Rainbowdashbrony3202392039   it does make me cringe :P

I came up with mine off the bat...xD

I call my best friend "kitters" (because her name is Kitty lol), and I've been told multiple times that I am quite weird. So here I am. haha

I concur that we as humans have huge imaginations and the capability to come up with a unique user. If I called myself "Pinkie Pie" for example, i'd probably get really tired of it and think it's bland and boring. Too common.

As for role playing as their character in status updates, I do think it's pretty odd....I mean, they have role play worlds, ya know?

What I don't like is how sometimes they act like their OC is the biggest thing to ever walk into the role play world. I rarely see that, but I mean c'mon, people...

Anyways, I don't really bat an eye to that stuff, but now that you mention it...lol

I agree. People can express their fandom in more original ways that would eliminate so many numbers that just complicate it for everypony XD I've made it a rule for myself to avoid numbers in my usernames unless it actually has a logical place in it and not simply because someone thought of it first. >_<

Well, I'm not very creative... I used to change my username like ALL the time back in the day, like, I would be satisfied for 2 weeks, then I came up with something completely new, and just as bad. Until I finally found a really good one 2 years ago or something, which i haven't changed since then. But I dont' like to use that same one on here, just because... I don't know really.

I'm not very creative with usernames, and it's just a big dilemma, it's easier to just use a canon pony or something. It demands less thinking from my part... I'm not saying I will keep this username forever but, I like it as it is now, for the moment. If I decide to donate some more some other time, and change my username, then that's that. It's simply... easy.. to have a pony name.

If people will have problems remembering "my username".. it's not a big deal to me. I got a huge ass signature and all, and I GOT A STAR... So cool... right? no? crap.

Changing usernames over and over just makes it even more confusing. It'd be best to stick with a username for a while, and only change it if necessary, not solely for teh lulz.

Just my view, though. It's not a big deal ,really.

And at least you have an asterisk next to your name. That makes it artsy :derp:

Well, I mean, it's what they chose. I don't care one way or the other, personally. It's just a username, anyway; no need to make a big deal out of it.

I have gotten ninja'd more times in the past 2 days....I think you two have just made me break double digits. :P

Yeaa, as I mentioned, i really don't care that people don't "remember my username" as if I would remember the more creative usernames... Nope, I don't remember many usernames, except a few... like Harmonic Scoots or whatever, but even if he/she changed his username, I'd remember the dude/gal in other ways. Now my question is, why?

My reasoning behind choosing these types of names. (Mine included since it's a fictional character from a video game/television series.) It is simply because I admire these characters that much to the point we want to represent or present them as ourselves.

I don't see a problem with changing usernames either.

I usually remember people by their way of speech above all else, but a username is definitely handy when you want to address a specific someone on the internet.

I understand, but a little originality couldn't hurt. Add something to the name. For example. If you like Rarity, make your username "Sparkling Rarity", or something similar. It helps differentiate.

I don't have a problem with changing usernames. It's just confusing. And if people constantly change their name to different characters, it's even more confusing.

That's understandable; Sometimes I can't even choose to just make my username the name I want to. For an example; up until a week ago; I was Ember The Dragoness when I really just wanted to be Ember.

Later on when I choose to change my username again (Which won't be until sometime early 2014) I will try out being a bit more creative I suppose. Still though I think people just like pretending to be people they're not :D.

Just go with the flow, man. Do what feels right. I'm only expressing my opinions here. I'm not looking to change anyone else's. Though, if you agree, that's great. I like agreement. It tastes good! :D

Some people are very uncreative. Not everyone has a huge imagination. I'm one of those people, actually. I just managed to create my username off of the top of my head somehow. Even better it has meaning for me. :) Others just want to create their username after a character they really like.

I think it would be better if people came up with more original usernames, but some people have a hard time doing that. I had the hardest time coming up with my OC's name and had to use a generator to help me and even then I still had to go through several different ones.

Yeah, especially when they claim that they are the #1 fans of their 'best pony' just because their username says RD or Fwattashy.

I get what you mean. My username is so simple yet so complex, and I can use it in the same format in pretty much all of my websites I go on.

I would definitely encourage non-pony usernames.

exactly everyone with the same name as their favorite pony claims to be number one fan its stupid no one is number one fan. but sometimes it is hard to come up with a name.

When people choose their favorite character's name as their username, sometimes it's because the person wants to garner attention. Just look around YouTube these days and you'll see plenty of people with character names pretending to "be" said character. Look at almost any pony video and you're bound to see Applejack, Rainbow Dash, or whoever begging for their comments to be given a thumbs up. Of course, attention isn't always the reason.

I think a lot of people also like to pick their favorite character and mold a username centered around said character. My username is an obvious reference to Applejack's term of endearment. Is it creative? No, but it's fun and easily recognized.

At one point in time, even our admin Feld0 used Twilight Sparkle as his username. Wow, I remember it like it was yesterday. ohmy.png

It's not easily recognized when there are literally dozens of other Applejacks and such out there. It's hard to keep track of your friends.

I do agree that it does express certain uncreativity. The fun thing is to come up with an original fun creative name for yourself. *looks at username* Hehe :squee: At least it's not a canon pony's name am I right? ^_^

Anyways, it would be better if you could take your favorite pony's name, and if you ever so desperately want to use it within your username, just add a little gimmick, something extra and creative to not make it seem bland and boring :)

Hmm I have to disagree with you, people should feel free to use whatever username they want. If they want to show there appreciation for a character by using there name as a username so be it. I mean I use nightmare night to show my appreciation for Halloween (my favorite holiday) and nobody seems to have a problem with that (I think)

Oh, people are allowed to use whatever name they want. Someone could name themselves "Clown Penis", and I wouldn't do a darn thing to stop them. I just don't think it's cool, is all.

Well we're not saying you're not allowed to use any name you want, we just think it would be better if you could express some creativity that's all :squee: Nothing personal or bad.

Nightmare Night is actually pretty good ;) Kind of creative there too because that's not a name most bronies would use.

So it's good to show a little appreciation, but give it a little twist while you're at it. Something cool and unique ;)

I suppose people can use those names if they want but I of course agree it can make things a tad confusing at times, for a brief while there were two users on here named "Twilight Sparkle", one of them used to go by the username Aquilla and is using that name again last time I checked and the other one has changed names alot but is most widely known as Dismajo or some variation of that name. My own username was actually a name my friend came up with when he helped me set up my deviantart account, I used on here too because it sounds good and I can.
