What makes Fluttershy cute?

Like, I know, this question might sound pretentious, or even made up, but I´m seriously interested. It may appear that the answer is obvious, but I don´t think it is. Let me explain:

I had the chance to introduce someone to mlp, he was skeptical, to say the least, but I convinced him to watch the very first episode. He wasn´t into it at all, until FS very first appearance. Before she said anything, he was like "D´awww, she´s cute." I said that this was a very common reaction to her, so we started wondering why, spending the rest of the evening trying to figure out if and how her model was different from the others, but we couldn´t find any divergences.

Any educated guesses? Like, we´re all that simple, we fall for basic color psychology or something?

I say it's because of how innocent she is. She is the kindest and most caring out of the six in my opinion. Add to that her gentle voice, her shyness, and how fragile she is, and Fluttershy comes off as an adorable character.

There is a very large analysis video about this, but the main points is that she is weak and she needs someone to protect her. Also, she shares a lot of characteristics that many bronies have such as being shy, introverted, etc.

if flutter shy was in apple jacks body she would still end up being adorable LOL.  (i was thinking twilight but seeing a trembeling twilight would be to ease to be cute).

I really didn't think I'd like Fluttershy based on her color scheme alone. Yellow and pink seemed like two TERRIBLE colors to put together to me. But when she first spoke, she shot me right through the heart. It was just something about how very timid she was and her adorable little voice.

 

How could you NOT fall in love with her?

I think her eyes and color scheme make her super cute. Her voice absolutely helps with the adorable aspect of her, but before hearing her speak, I think I was most attracted to the yellow/pink color scheme and those soft, slightly droopy, bright blue eyes.

It's a combination of how she presents herself and how she looks. She has very soft coloring, large eyes with big eyelashes, and a long mane. Honestly, these seem to be the biggest things when it comes down to just how she looks.

Personally, I do not find Fluttershy cute at all honestly, but I suppose the reason why many people "fall under her spell" is because of her act. They way she carries herself makes her look weak and helpless and naturally people want to respond to that by protecting her hence the reason everyone is all piss and vinegar when someone makes her cry.

I recently watched this video by vsauce which covers the exact nature of cuteness. In it he discusses the psychological reasons as to why we see something as "cute." Cuteness derives from the human instinct to protect beings which are defenseless and innocent, in terms of personality, which are both traits which Fluttershy emulates. There is also a physical grounds for seeing something as cute, in the way of larger, expressive eyes, soft appearance, and a certain shape and size of the head. Fluttershy has wide eyes, and her colour scheme is very soft. So, given her personality and appearance, we are predisposed to think Fluttershy is cute. This is also why many fans rage at any cruelty done to Fluttershy, because we want to protect her, but can't. We see it as no better than punching a baby if somepony tries hurting Flutters.

Fluttershy is absolutely adorable. Andrea Libman does a fantastic job in portraying her. She just seems so timid and fragile that you just want to give her a big, comforting, reassuring hug to let her know everything is alright. And I think she would very much appreciate that.

Yep, it is her personality overall. She has a very innocent vibe around her and it is undeniably cute and it feels very childlike in nature which I can relate to personally, but I personally think all of the mane 6 are cute in their own way, as well as other ponies in the show/fandom. Her special talent is kindness and her kindness is the kind that can absolutely melt your heart. I mean if you can't look at her without feeling a little something tugging on your heart then there is something really wrong.

She's just designed to be cute from every angle.

 

She's colored cute (soft yellow, like a chick or duckling, and bubblegum pink).

She's got long, flowing hair, which looks soft and adds to the graceful feel.

Then a big factor is those eyes. She's got these big doe eyes that give her a perpetual puppy dog look. No other pony in the show has eyes like that. Every other pony's eyes are wide open and bright looking. Her lashes slope down to make her expressions look much softer.

 

And then she talks, and that just puts the cute icing on the cute cake.

Her personality is great she is shy but she isn't when she is talking to animals there was one episode when Rarity and Pinkie Pie tried to teach Fluttershy how to stand up for herself and she understood it but in a very wrong way.

All the things your suppose to have like assertiveness, confidence, etc, etc,.

I submitt to you which is why flutter shy doesn't grow as a character.

 

She'd stop being cute and in turn would stop being flutter shy.  I mean  unless they made her more slap stick bulling people over to look at animals like she did with twilight when they met to to talk to spike lol.

I have many female friends and like many of the characters in the show Fluttershy is relatable in the sense that she reminds me of my friends. I think it's cute when any person is out of their comfort zone and become socially awkward as a result.

Fluttershy is perhaps the greatest fish out of water of the mane 6 and hence has the funniest interactions with others socially (not comically like Pinkie Pie.)

 

I'm not sure if my point of view would seem cruel in some way but those interactions are why I enjoy her character the most.

I also like her voice. Though it seems like a generic quiet girl the sound of it also contains a light "womanly" tone to it so she sounds both gentle and mature.

 

Also if she were ice cream she would be strawberry bannana

The way in which she, and many of the other ponies were designed is meant to trigger the area in the brain the correlatea with adorableness, and contemptness. It's a reaction in our minda that has been tought to us since the beginning of time.

 

In short, she's just meant to be cute.
