technology Audio Issues.

As an audiophile, this has been bugging the hay out of me for the longest time....I have 2 Issues.

1st Issue

I want to properly set up my 5.1 on my PC but I've never been able to. I know it all works, when I play any music with a heavy bass or there's an explosion or whatever my whole room vibrates. and I can hear characters in games to my left and right and the stereo in music also works how it should. My problem is my Realtek HD Audio Manager nor my built in Windows Sound Manager, detect these. It's as if they're all running on the same 2 audio channels. Even though they're all plugged into their respective"Sub" "Center" Left and right" and such ports on my Motherboard.

Is there some program I can use that will detect my 5.1 setup? Because all my speakers work how they should. In games If I turn around I can hear if some character is to my right or left or in front of me.

2nd Issue

This brings me to my other issue, for some odd reason I can't hear characters talking nor hear any sound when it/them/him/her/they're behind me...with or with out headphones on.

The not hearing from behind me is a new issue in the last few days.....which I'm screwed if something comes up behind me in a game. and kills me. lol. So I'd like to fix that too.  As seen in the attached picture, it shows I have no rear speakers, even though they're plugged into the "Rear" audio port on my motherboard.  So technically I should have "rear" sound

I'm using the on board sound card on my PC with a set of Logitech X-540 5.1s

Well it sounds like driver issues from the on-board sound card, or it could be that your motherboard's sound card is uncapable of handling of what you're trying to do. I'd go to device manager and find your audio card and try updating the drivers, or removing them and finding better ones online.

Have you also moved your PC recently, since the sound loss from the back? I know that my case audio ports wouldn't work because the power supply cables were running right next to the audio, cutting out certain noises and speakers due to the electricity. If anything, I would just pick up a cheap 10-30 USD sound card and pop that into the motherboard and use that instead. Only though, if you can't find another solution.
