Kingfisher.

 

As the world seemed to change around her, Kingfisher snatched for the back of the seat in front of her and clung on: it was fairly effective, she had used a similar tactic during storms at sea - at least until the chair gave in somewhere between the second and third roll.

 

Dopping heavily onto her back with the double seat landing on top of her, she choked with the pain and lack of air - right before turning again and falling on top of the seat.

 

"Aghk...!" Gasped the winded mare as they stopped moving - the carriage wedged at an awkward angle in the snow. "... I'm.... fine!" She wheezed. She was numb - some parts more than others - but there didn't seem to be any bleeding as far as she could tell using the somewhat limited mobility she had in her neck.

 

Dragging herself upright, left hind leg stubbornly refusing to respond to her thoughts and battered and bruised everywhere else, she blinked. The world was a blur and a high pitched ringing sound buzzed in her ears. Feeling as if moving in slow motion, she started to make her way towards the others.

Blast

Before Blast knew it, he was unconscious under a pile of rubble. His skull injury was only minor before, but this time, it got even more critical. He was suffering from internal bleeding and his skull was nearly cracked in two. When he finally woke up, he saw the rubble that he was stuck under.

"Ummm, guys? HELP! I can;t move!" He shouted, scared out of his wits.

 

Eclipse

Eclipse soon woke up, seeing that several shards of glass were implanted right into his leg. After CAREFULLY picking them out of his skin, he walked over to Blast, who he noticed was stuck under the pile of debris.

"Just stay calm, kid. I'll get you out." Eclipse said to him. He powered up his psychic magic and attempted to lift the debris off of Blast. But it was no use. The rubble was too heavy, but he couldn't give up, for if he let go, Blast would surely be crushed.

"Help..." Eclipse muttered.

Icarus went flying into the air as the train was hurled. He was tossed around and thrown about. The next few seconds were a blur. When he finally came to,Battered and bruised, but still somewhat ok, he saw Clockwork wandering around, and the engineer laying on the ground. It was lucky he wore a mask, a ruptured steam pipe had sprayed what would be his face with steam, witch was now frozen to the outside of the mask. He walked up to the Engineer,limping on one of his back legs, not even needing to check him to know that the engineer was dead.He then turned and walked over to Clockwork. His Heavy overcoat flapped in the wind as he walked, he was warm, but wouldn't be for long.

 

"He's dead Clockwork, we need to find the rest of the group" Icarus said, before looking to clockwork again, Are you injured?" Icarus asked, before seeing the large gash on Clockworks front leg.

 

Well isn't this just my luck, I GAHH.... Man, something isn't right in my back leg, nothings broken, I must have tore something.

Aegis Dare

Aegis tried to move, but pain shot through his left foreleg and he collapsed. He gave out a pained cry as he landed on his injured shoulder. And the crash came back to him, just like that. 

 

He'd gotten up to find Pavisa, to ask her something important, when he'd been launched off his hooves as the train derailed. He'd tucked his wings close to his to his body and grabbed hold of his seat, being dislodged and thrown against the baggage rails, and felt pain shoot through his shoulder. He'd landed heavily on the floor, face-first, and things went blank until after the carriage stopped.

 

"Hold on...Aagh!" Aegis said, trying to move over to Blast. He crawled over, positioning himself so he could use his back legs as levers to lift the rubble. "Sky, Sunshine, Pavi! Help me and Eclipse lift this stuff off Blast!" He called, feeling as if his legs were going to give out.

Frost slowly opened his eyes, he looked around before jolting into an upright position. The train....what the hell happened...I don't remember a thing he thought as he tried to stand. He had barely gotten up when he felt a sharp pain shooting from the back of his head, he figured it had been hit hard in the crash and thought nothing of it.

Frost looked around to see if everyone was still alive and moving. From what he could see they were, until his eyes met with Blast, Eclipse, and Aegis. "Crap!" He hissed through his teeth as he trotted over as fast as he could, wincing from his head injury all the way. Once he was beside Eclipse he began to help as fast as he can. "Hold on Blast, we got yah." He muttered

Eclipse and Blast

With enough help from Aegis and Frost, they could lift the debris off of Blast, allowing him to crawl out.

"You okay?" Eclipse asked the red stallion.

Blast nodded and tried to get up, but he fell back down with a loud "SNAP" in his legs. The debris must've crushed his legs and left them injured.

Blast grunted. "Oh my gosh, that hurts... what exactly happen-" Before he could finish, a sharp spike of pain went through his skull. It seems like he was starting to feel the effects of the crash. He couldn't move and he was suffering internal bleeding and a broken skull. How could it get worse?

Free of the infernal prison that the mare called a 'bag', Kricket made a few disapproving sounds and snapped at it before wriggling free to investigate the new place. It was cold, it not that that was really a problem - he was an embodiment of the cold after all - but he preferred the warmth. The one called Willow and the Changing creature looked like they would too...

 

Snow, however, was something new and exciting!

 

Flitting down to the ground and brushing lightly through the white powder, he sneezed and retreated to the top of the cavern before trying again: this time trying to find out it it was for eating...

Flashing the interloper an annoyed glare, Orion nodded at his friend before following the quickly fading hoof-prints towards an opening in the cliff face. Entering the cavern, Orion caught his breath for a few moments before he looked about: closing his eyes as an orb of light formed at the tip of his horn and rose into the air just above him - following him as he moved into the darkening cavern.

 

"Willow? Are you in here?" He said - raising his voice as much as he could with the cold snatching it away. Catching sight of the frolicking aspect and instinctively chuckling despite the sure situation, he moved inside.

 

"Good work, this is perfect." He paused.

"We can rest here a while until this storm stops. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Zintiik here just came following me over here. Do you happen to have a match?"

 

Willow watched Kricket eating the snow for a minute and smiled. She resumed to her fire-making duties. She tried harder and harder, bt it seemed hopeless. The sticks were damp and didn't seem to be able to make a fire. "Maybe I can use a spell to do this!" Willow aimed her horn at the stick pile, and tried to think of a spell that could work. She couldn't think of anything, so she did the first one that came to mind. Sparks flew and burst, but it didn't seem to work. Willow sighed and stared at the pile of sticks. It seemed to stare back. Menacingly.

Mirror felt something push against her, looking to her left she saw Scribbler huddling up against her. He didn't have anything besides his saddlebags to keep him warm. Before she could respond to his joke he moved forward to try to keep a fight from starting between Orion and the stranger. Although a fight might have been better, if just to get it out of the way. The stallion seemed all too ready to start one. Mirror trotted up to Scribbler's shield. She opened her mouth to speak but the cold wind forced her to close it immediately. Instead of speaking she wordlessly pulled her blanket out and offered it to Scribbler.

Pavisa frowns as she looks over Blast, glancing around at the rest of the ragged party.  "Does anyone know where that Doctor went?  Blast is in pretty bad shape, I don't know if we should move him before somepony has a chance to check him out."  She groggily turns and starts heading towards the door to the train car, fumbling for her helmet.  She hadn't taken serious damage from the crash, she was still pretty banged up though.

 

As she reaches the door, Pavisa glances back towards the others.  "I'm going to take a look outside...  Going to make sure whatever hit us isn't coming back for another try, alright?"  She really didn't have a lot of medical training, and the ex-guard knew she was just going to be in the way in here...  May as well do what she could to make sure they were safe, though!

Zintiik just slumps against the wall of the cave, watching what was happening quietly.  The changeling wanted to help, but he was still having a hard time with the unexpected cold.  Being inside out of the wind and snow was helping, if only a little...  And he expected that once a fire was lit he'd be back to his usual self...

 

He didn't want to be dead weight for his friends, though.  Zintiik pushes himself to his hooves and sluggishly walks over next to were they were working to start the fire.  It was tough for him to move, but he knew it was better if he didn't stand still...  Moving kept him a little warmer.  "C-c-can I...  H-help?"

The clouds churned overhead as thunder rolled through the air - purple streams of lightning weaving through them and bathing the sky in an unnatural glow which carried through the fog. It did little to warm the frigid temperatures though - which were spreading through the shell of the train with an almost intelligent tenacity.

 

From the direction of the track, a shadow loomed over them. Watching. The dense fog masked it from the ponies - but it had no need to see them to know exactly where they were. They were alive - more of them than the last time. It would have to change that.

Making her way past the struggling group as best as she could with her leg still refusing to function as it was instructed and her head still swimming enough that she was only partially aware of what was going on around her. Blinking dizzily, she seized her fallen saddlebag and slung it across her back before sitting down and blinking a few times as she tried to clear her head. 

 

"We..." She tried to say. Tried to rally them, to give some kind of instruction or advice but her head was still filled with static that blocked her thoughts. They were on their own.

Pavisa

 

With the cold spreading Pavisa decided there was no point in putting off checking out the situation, and tried to open the door.  When she found it resistant she turned and kicked it, forcing the stubborn door open before crawling out of the train.

 

It was cold outside - she'd expected that, based on the rapidly falling temperature in the train car.  It still caused her to clench her teeth and take in a sharp breath of air as she glanced around.  She couldn't see much, though she assumed the shape not far away to be another train car.  Maybe the others were in there...

 

Pavisa ducks back into the train, turning to look at their group.  They all looked to be in pretty bad shape.  Think, Pavisa.  You didn't go through years of training to forget it all now...  She was still shaken up from the crash, but it seemed like she was one of the ones in better shape thanks to her armour.

 

She takes a deep breath before walking back to the group, using her best "Guard voice" she could muster in the circumstances.  "I didn't see anything out there, but that doesn't mean we're alone...  We need to get moving, fast.  If it was something that knocked us off the tracks, then it's already proven that it's big enough that this train car isn't going to protect us any.  And even if we went off the track for other reasons, like just going to fast, the temperature is dropping too rapidly in here."

Pavisa really wasn't in any position to take charge or issue orders, but she had been trained in emergency situations...  And they couldn't just sit around forever.  "Aegis, there's another train car not very far from this one.  You don't seem too banged up, and with your wings you're one of the faster ones that's mobile right now.  Can you check and see if Doc and the green guy are over there?  Don't go too far, and don't take long.  We don't want anyone getting separated."

"Eclipse, we may have to move soon.  Blast looks to be in pretty bad shape, but we may not be able to treat him here.  With your magic, do you think you'll be able to move him without shaking him up if we have to move?"

Pavisa's mind was working as quickly as it could, but she knew this was all going to be for nothing if nopony went along with it...  Or if they couldn't get anywhere safe.  She turns to Midnight, trying to catch her breath for a minute.  "Midnight, you know about these kind of places better than the rest of us, right?  Do you think you can find us somewhere safe to regroup when we have to move?"

 

The ex-guard turns to the others in the train.  Kingfisher still looked out of it, and the others were newcomers whose names she didn't really know.  She was glad her helmet was mostly hiding her expression right now, because she had a feeling her slightly panicked look wouldn't inspire any confidence.  "The rest of us should get ready to move the wounded, and to get anything we might be able to salvage from this train before it becomes an ice box."  She'd said what she could - now it was just a matter of seeing if anyone was going to object to what she'd suggested.

Eclipse shrugged to the mare.

"Perhaps." Eclipse said to her. "I mean, he can't be any heavier than that rubble. But, we should hurry up and get the kid some help. He's suffering badly, and if he doesn't get any soon, his injuries could be fatal." Eclipse grabbed Blast with his psychic magic and placed the stallion on his back. He was surprisingly light now that he was out from under all of that junk. "Let's just hurry." Eclipse said to Pavisa.

Crimson's memories were a blur, it all happened so fast that he didn't have time to react, he merely groaned in pain and confusion as he laid under a few empty train seats, his head must've smashed through a window, because his face was covered in blood and he felt a stinging pain down the length of his face. He quickly pressed a hoof over the wound to stop the bleeding. "Ugh...shit! I knew trains were unreliable...but this just isn't right! Hey guys...anyone care to lend me a hoof here? I only have one hoof free, but I'm using it to stop my face from bleeding...the other one is pinned..." he said with a grunt of pain.

"I'm on it. Round up the injured in here while I find the others." Aegis said, wiping blood off his muzzle and getting up unsteadily. He tried not to lean too much on his left side as he limped towards an exit. When he found it, he saw the damage down to the train. "How cheery..."

He spread his aching wings and took flight, scanning the other cars for signs of life. He'd completed a third pass when he found the others. He landed awkwardly near Clockwork and Icarus. "Yo. Don't panic, friendlies."

Frost watched as Eclipse began to carry away Blast, who was now lying over the stallions back, he assumed knocked out. Frost grabbed his head as the sharp pain returned for another assault. He limped up to Eclipse's side before speaking in a raspy tone. "Is there...there anything I can OW! Do...to..help him?" He stammered.

Icarus turned To Aegis, who had landed near him. In his turn his left rear leg made an odd SHLLK sound, causing Icarus to recoil in pain. 

 

"ебать !" Icarus exclaimed in a different language, "Urrgh, it is good to see your ok Aegis, though if you have any injuries, you'll have to wait, I'm about to fix up Clockwork" Icarus said to Aegis, motioning towards the gash on Clockworks leg.

He sat down for a moment to assess the situation and clear his head a little. "Patching everypony up will have to wait a bit. We're gonna find somewhere safe, after I get you two back to the others. You can still move, right?"

Eclipse looked over to the limping Frost. He seemed to be pretty banged up, but his wounds weren't looking fatal. Blast's wounds, on the other hoof, could be.

"What I'd like you to do is get yourself some assistance." Eclipse said to the stallion. "Come along. We're going to see Doctor Icarus." Eclipse took Frost along with him and the two approached Aegis and Icarus. The unicorn took Blast off of his back and placed him on a hard surface. His injuries were bad, which could easily be told by the gaping cut in his head. "Please tell me you can patch the guy up, doc." Eclipse said.

Leaving the other pony behind, Denarius followed the trail of Orion. Every twist and every turn that Orion took, he observed. Orion had obviously not noticed Denarius' attempt at tailing him, clearly he was concerned with other matters. As the trail came to an abrupt halt, he glanced onwards. What stood before was a small cavern sculpted into the craggy cliff-face ahead.

 

If he entered the cave, he could easily be trapped within. He had no desire to fight, not now. Denarius needed shelter amongst other things, before he could even consider it a possibility. He approached the cavern quietly, and glanced inwards, yet his vision could not easily see through the shadows that lay inside.

 

Clearing this throat he shouted into to the tunnel, "Orion, are you in here. I have no quarrel with you. All I want is protection from the blizzard outside. Can I come in? You can't simply let somepony else freeze out here, would you?". 

 

He paused, and just stood at the cavern's mouth hoping for a response.

"Sure! I think I'll need all the help I can get."

 

Willow tried hard to get, just one little spark into the pile of sticks. She tried again the stick rubbing method while trying to do the spell, and apparently both worked at the same time. Her eyes widened in surprise and her body started to warm up. A tiny fire has started, but it will do. She'll need to get more firewood later. "Yes!" Willow yelped happily. This was an achievement since it's been years since she did something by herself without Orion's help. She waved Kricket over: it seemed freezing. She heard a voice down through the cave, and responded with, "Um, sure! You may come in! Orion won't do any harm!"

Pavisa made her way over to Crimson and abruptly wedged her halberd under the debris pinning him down, leaning on the weapon for leverage to help lift it up.  She looks at him with a small grin.  "Up we go, pirate...  No time to be laying around, we've got work to do."  She wasn't too concerned about the pirate - the fact he was talking was a good sign, and she recalled him breaking a leg and not even noticing it on their way to the Falls.  She winks at him from under her helmet, nodding her head to show that he should try and pull himself out.  "Not going to hold this up all day..."

Zintiik let out a loud sigh of relief to see the flames, huddling close to the small fire.  It already seemed to be helping - he was still cold, but he could at least function now.  "W-Willow, you're amazing..."  It was about then that Zintiik was able to realize that the voice outside didn't belong to anyone in their party.

 

Shutting his eyes, a green flash envelops the changeling as he turns into the pegasus Tactic Wind.  He opens his eyes again, letting the cloak that Orion had let him use slip a little further now that he didn't actually look like a bug.  "I need to come up with a new disguise," he mutters under his breath as he turns to look at the cave entrance.

Midnight Sky

 

After Pavisa took charge of the situation, Midnight decided to go along with her plan. Stepping out of the train car into the frigid outside air Midnight saw that finding shelter was going to be more difficult than he anticipated. This weather left him with barely any visibility, and this place was treacherous enough to navigate without the white-out. "Well here we go, I sure hope I can find a nice cave somewhere close by, because I really don't want to make a snow shelter for everypony." Midnight said as first oriented himself so that he was facing the general direction of the Crystal Heart based on the flow of harmonic energy in the air, then he began sending out pulses of telekinetic magic, thoroughly scanning the surrounding area. As he scanned the area, Midnight couldn't help but wonder what these ponies would do if they didn't have a pony like him who can see without seeing around, and he got the feeling that they wouldn't all survive if that were the case. Midnight was also glad for his armor, even though it is a painful reminder of where he's from and what he used to be, the armor in Equestria just couldn't compare to Neighland armor in weather like this.

 

Neighland armor was made to keep the wearer comfortable in almost all weather conditions because each region of Neighland was stuck in a single season and issuing different armor for each region was too expensive, but thanks to the magic clothe that lines the armor's interior the armor stays the same temperature that it was when it was put on. Convenient in weather like this. After getting a good feel for the land around their train wreck, Midnight figured he found a decent place for them to go. About fifty yards north of the wreck there was a small outcropping of rocks that marked the entrance into a cave system, though he didn't know how far the caves went. Now that his job was done, Midnight began waiting for everypony to rendezvous so that he could lead them to the cave. He just hoped they could get a move on soon, he had a bad feeling that their troubles for the day were far from over.

Icarus looked at Blast for a little bit before figuring out the damage. 

 

"He has a fractured skull, you" He pointed to Eclipse " Take him and get him someplace warm, like one of the cars, keep his head aligned with his body and don't rattle him around, I can fix him, but I need to get him out of this cold." Icarus ordered Eclipse.
