Wincing as a blanket was tied around his wound, Scribbler tensed up and yelped in pain. He flinched from the binding, and caused his badly bruised side to course with a sharp jolt of agony. He felt Mirror's muzzle against his shoulder, which calmed his nerves. He laid his head back down, feeling completely spent. Every last ounce of energy was now going into staying awake, and breathing.

"I hope Orion understands the writing in my book.. it's about my only hope out here." He thought, knowing his head was concussed from the blow. He knew if he fell asleep now, he might not wake up again. The ponies he was with didn't seem to understand medical problems very well, he was their only medic, and he was down. He knew that he needed to survive, or they wouldn't stand a chance against the elements he'd found himself victim to. If only he'd moved more quickly.

Clockwork looked over to where Pavisa had pointed, seeing Aegis passed out on the ground. He nodded to the ex-guard, and limped over to where Aegis lay. He clicked the button once again, allowing the aura to pass over Aegis's unconscious body. He couldn't tell how badly he was injured, but he didn't look well at all. The aura passed over, causing the bruised areas to subside, and heal up. Whatever else was wrong would surely be lessened by the caster, if not mended fully. Clockwork turned the aura on his own leg, finally mending the gash he'd been ignoring until now. Blood had congealed all down his leg, but it was still running down from the wound. The aura slowly caused the gash to close up, leaving a scar. He turned off the caster once again, and laid down, feeling light headed from all the blood he'd been losing since he woke up in the engine car only minutes ago. "Is anypony else in need? I must rest soon.. My energy is sapped. I've lost a lot of blood." He said, looking very worn out.

After doing a quick check that everypony was inside the cavern and that the entrance was stable, Midnight walked over to where Kingfisher and the others were. "I'd have to agree on finding another way too. Whatever that thing was, I could sense that it's magical energy is comparable to that of an alicorn, maybe even stronger. And if we do decide to explore these caverns for another exit, then I recommend that I go with the scout team. With my telekinetic scanning I can make sure nopony gets lost and I'll be able to scan further than we can see. But it's your call Fisher, I'm just here to help you where I can." Midnight said. 'Thank Starlight my scanning magic doesn't use much energy, because at this rate it's going to be getting quite the workout. If Fisher agrees with my idea, then this will the the third time I've used my magic to scan a cave system. Hopefully I don't repeat my mistakes from the first time, I'd rather not lead a group of ponies to their deaths.' Midnight thought to himself.

Willow Starsinger

 

Willow has been sitting next to Scribbler for a few minutes before Denarius trotted over. She smiled at the stallion: maybe she was right about him. Maybe they can trust this stallion.. she looked to Orion for a moment and was about to say, "I told you so." She didn't think that it was necessary now.

 

"Thank you," Willow smiled at the stranger, hoping that it would make him a bit more comfortable. "We need to put him in some sort of sleep. It would be too painful for him to have stitches while he's awake."

Orion Starsinger.

 

Trusting that Willow would be able to care for their friend for the time being, Orion looked through the writing on the page pushed towards him. Reading it wasn't a problem - nor would the spell have been had he been at a respectable strength.

 

That, he certainly wasn't.

 

"This might help with that... and some of the damage too, presuming out friend isn't mistaken..." The unicorn said, stepping forward again as he prepared to drain the very last of his magic reserve.

 

Closing his eyes, he focused the spell - the familiar dizziness of over exerting his magic washing over him. His horn started to glow... before sparking painfully as the spell fizzled.

 

"Agh!" He grunted from the magical backlash. "I don't know if I can... not after the portal."

Kingfisher.

 

"Sure... We need to be careful though, whatever we do." Kingfisher said, looking back towards the mouth of the cave. "If that was the welcoming committee then who knows what else might be around? Stay on the lookout."

 

They had wounded - she doubted that they would be in a state to move anywhere anytime soon... But stranger things had happened. The cavern offered a little shelter from the cold too - though not nearly enough, she thought.

 

"Someone get a fire going?" She asked hesitantly. "Sure something might see us, but to be honest? I'm fine with that if it means not freezing to death."

Eclipse

Eclipse decided to chime in.

"Well, Kingfisher, building a fire without leaving this cavern would be near impossible" Eclipse pointed out to the captain of the team, knowing he's probably about to point out the painfully obvious. "First off, we would need wood, and I doubt that there is any wood within this cave. One of us will have to leave and make the trek through the snow to find some. Once we do this, however, making the first itself shouldn't be an issue. We just need to use two rocks to ignite the wood." 

 

Eclipse then turned to the doctor. "If you need some salts for Blast, he may have some in his saddlebags. He always keeps a bunch of junk in there when he adventures. Dig around and see if you can find some."

Pavisa steps forward, adjusting her helmet with one hoof.  "I can go...  I'm not too beat up yet, and my armour at least keeps the hail from doing too much damage if it kicks up again..."  She starts walking towards the mouth of the cave, taking a moment to glance back at the rest of the party.  The mare may not have been a guard anymore, she still felt responsible for keeping her friends safe though...  And right now, that meant getting a fire going.  "I'll try and be quick, we should get that fire going soon.  It's freezing in here."

Zintiik quickly moves over next to Orion when he sees the unicorn's spell fizzle out.  He glances down at the book Orion had tried to read from, then back to the stallion.  "...Orion, can you use my strength in any way?  I fed quite a bit in Canterlot, if you can use my energy somehow than you're welcome to...  I mean, I have more than enough to last me for a while."  The changeling wasn't sure what he was suggesting himself, but it made some degree of sense to him...  If it was possible, anyways.  The kind of magic the unicorns used wasn't something that the changeling was familiar with, but if his stores of energy could help keep Scribbler alive than he was willing to try!

Eclipse walks up to Pavisa and puts a hoof on her shoulder.

"I don't think you shoulder tread alone, Pavisa. Allow me to assist you." Eclipse said, throwing up his cloak. "I haven't really been much of a contribution to the group. Maybe it's time I pull some weight around and not just sit around thinking about my forgotten past." He said, giving a slight grin.

When no one responded, Icarus turned back to Blast. At the moment, Icarus' head was throbbing from the amount of spells he had used in such short notice, so instead, he wen to his plan B. He would use a pain Stimulus, or more specifically a Sternal rub.

 

Icarus but his hooves on Blasts Sternum, and began moving them in a grinding motion. Hopefully, if he was not in a comatose, this would awaken him.

Aegis Dare

 

Aegis stirred. He hadn't slept long nor particularly well, but he was alive and probably needed. He stretched his body, his spine making a series of popping sounds, then looked around to the others. Yawning widely, he cleared his throat.

 

"Anypony hungry?" He asked, diving into his saddlebags. 

 

 

Noble Persona & Gwyn

 

Since his defeat in an illusion, Noble buried himself in his research. He'd researched the Litany extensively before, but he'd overlooked the effects. But he had a theory. Using the power wasn't the problem, rather it was the dangers of over-exerting oneself in the process. "So, if I use the Litany in moderation, I should be safe. Then again, I said the same thing before I left for Neighagra Falls, and that turned out so wonderfully..."

 

He stretched out and walked out into the main area, where he was ambushed by Gwyn. She pinned him to the ground and leaned in close. Uncomfortably close.

 

"Do you believe that love trancends all boundaries?" She asked. Noble had no response, and she was too close for him to do anything. He closed his eyes and waited, but nothing happened. Instead, Gwyn's laughter met his ears and he found he was the victim of a cruel prank. Being an Aspect, Gwyn found this hilarious. "I love it when you act so serious. You're so easy to make fun of when you're like that. And I bet you really thought I was going to kiss you."

 

"That wasn't funny, Gwyn." He said, not at all pleased.

 

"Oh, lighten up, Lord Moody. You really are a stick in the mud." She replied, still grinning.

 

"I'm planning to commit treason by inciting a rebellion and usurping the throne from the Princesses. That is not something to take lightly." Noble raised his voice slightly, a mere step away from blowing a large hole in the ceiling.

 

Gwyn rolled her eyes, disinterested in Noble's plans. "Yes, I'm well aware of that, but at least let me have some fun. I'm dying of boredom."

Frost sat with the group and continued to smoke his cigarette, he was about to offer his lighter to start a fire, but his shyness got the better of him in the situation. He felt his stomach growl and he slowly began to realize that his pouch full of food had been lost in the train wreck. When he heard Aegis ask if anyone was hungry his stomach overcame his shyness by a leap and a bound as he raised his hoof. "I am! I mean...if you wanna share of course." His voice softening.

Blast

The procedure that Doctor Icarus did on Blast was successful enough. In a few more moments, Blast's eyes slowly opened, his vision still a little bit blurry.

The first thing he noticed was his leg. It seemed to be all better, but he was still feeling like utter shit. It didn't help that he now had two injuries, two injuries that he'll just have to live through.

"Am I able to walk again, doctor?" Blast asked Icarus.

"I agree with Eclipse, Pavisa. Perhaps I should come along as well since I'll be able to navigate no matter the weather and I'm just about unharmed other than some soreness from the train derailing. Besides, three is a good solid number for a team like this, one pony to carry firewood, one to navigate, and one to be a lookout. But I would recommend that nopony else comes along, we don't want to endanger the entire group just for some firewood." Midnight said with a quick glance over at Blast and then at Sunshine before looking back at the others around him. At this rate he was starting to surprise himself, normally he wasn't the type of pony to volunteer to help out on every little thing, but just today he has found shelter and guided the others to it, waited to make sure everypony made it before entering said shelter, and now he's volunteering to collect firewood in an arctic wasteland with some magic thing on the prowl. He'll have to be careful or else he'll actually become a noble pony instead of a prince absorbed in his past. But on the other hoof, if the opportunity arises, Midnight would like to see how well his and Eclipse's telekinetic powers compliment each other's. After all, that is the generally field of magic that they both happen to specialize in, and combined there's no telling what they could do, not without some data at least.

Aegis dug out five packets of preserved vegetables and gave a packet of preserved apple slices to Frost. "That should hold you together for now." He said with a tired grin. Judging by the softening tone of his voice, Aegis guessed that Frost was usually a shy pony. "You did good today, Frost. It's not easy to keep a cool head in situations like this. Glad you made it in one piece."

 

Diverting his attention from Frost for a moment, he decided that he was going to make something with his preserved food. He just hoped they had something he could use to cook it. "Does anypony have a pot or something to that effect?"

Pavisa looks from Eclipse to Midnight then nods slightly.  "Alright...  Let's make it quick, though.  The sooner we can get a fire going, the better we're all going to be."  With that said she turns to leave the cave.  She hesitates for a moment to look towards the direction of the train tracks, but she doesn't see anything out of place...  Granted it was hard to see through the weather anyways, but it seemed like as good of a time as any to start their task.

 

She glances back at the two stallions.  "I think this is the best opening we're gonna get, let's go!"  She steps out of the cover of the rocky outcroppings, glancing around at the landscape.  As far as she could see it was a frozen wasteland - where in Equestria were they supposed to find firewood?  "I don't think a place like this is going to have trees growing...  Should we go back and try to salvage wood from one of the damaged train cars?  It's risky, but I don't know where else we're going to find firewood..."

Clockwork turned his head, looking over his shoulder towards Aegis. It seemed his caster had done the trick, as the pegasus stood up. His offer of food didn't really hit him as important at first, he felt nauseated from the blood loss. The he realized beyond his ill feeling, that eating might be the best thing he could do for himself. "If you could spare some, I would be most grateful.. I should eat something, and I rashly chose to bring little with me in the way of food.. The last I ate was an apple on the train some hours ago. I don't have anything like a pot unfortunately.. I hadn't expected to need to survive in the wild before hitting the Crystal Kingdom.. I am most unprepared for this journey to say the least." He could hear the others speaking of fire and not being able to locate wood. His mind immediately went to the most obvious conclusion in his machine driven mind of gears and steam. "Check the engine car! I'm certain not all the coal was spent when I last checked it. You may even find unused lumps of it in bags. We had a long journey ahead, that train would have required large amounts to keep up the speed it was moving at, but there should still be some left. It won't be clean burning, but it'll keep us alive."

Scribbler watched through blurry eyes as Orion's attempt failed, his energy levels were too low. Scribbler moaned mournfully, realizing his situation was dire, and he might not survive this. His head was laying flat against the cool stone floor, the only thing relieving the agony he was in. "Is this really how it ends? Here, in a desolate cavern in a winter waste land?" He began to feel doubts boiling up from the depths of his guts. Dreadful feelings, that he would never see the end of this journey, he would never get the chance to show Mirror how he felt. He would never be able to find his parents, one of his life long goals. These were all things driving him to stay alive, and his will power wasn't gone yet. He knew he could, but he needed some help soon. He lifted his head again, scanning about for Mirror, but his eyes met with Willow, who was laying next to him. "Y-you.. You try.. You must have.. power.." He said weakly, blood rolling down the corner of his mouth. He laid his head down again, and coughed. Blood spattered the floor in front of his face, one of his lungs was likely ruptured from a broken rib. Time was running short, and now he knew he was running the risk of drowning in his own blood. He wasn't certain if Willow could even read the book, perhaps Orion could assist her, but this was his last hope, unless Mirror could cast it. But was this within her capabilities? Willow had the Litany's power, Mirror didn't, she used a much different type of magic than this. Scribbler sighed, trying to stay awake still, and waited for something to happen.

"At the moment, I would avoid putting pressure on that leg, You could severely wound it again i you do. You should be fine in a few weeks. " Icarus said with a frown on his face.

 

 

A few weeks will unfortunately not help him here. though I wonder if I could figure out a way to speed up his recovery....

Eclipse

Pavisa was pretty much right. It was all just snow, frost, and ice as far as the eye could see. It'd be a sweet miracle for a tree to be growing in a frozen wasteland such as this.

"It's probably our only chance. C'mon, we need to start heading back to the cars, right away." Eclipse began walking back the way they came, keeping his eyes focused on trying to see beyond the storm.

Blast

"Well, I gotta get around somehow, doc. Just let me try walking around without applying too much pressure." Blast tried standing upwards on all four of his legs. Overall, he could stand fair enough, but he was still in pretty bad shape. Bandages around his head and fore leg didn't help much appearance-wise either. He began limping himself over to Aegis and Frost.

"So, what's on the menu?" Blast asked, chucking to himself in hopes of maintaining a positive attitude towards the current circumstances.

"If I could get some materials, would you be able to craft a makeshift cooking pot or frying pan?" Aegis asked, handing a packet of apple slices to Clockwork. He handed a packet to Blast as well. "I'm gonna make some stir-fry, but I'll need a few things from everypony and something to use as a pot or pan. I heard something about firewood as I was waking up, so that's taken care of. Speaking of waking up, I feel great. Tired, but I'm not bruised or covered in stinging cuts. How'd that happen?"

[Snowy Storm 57]

She let go of the ice surrounding her body before going in. The other were cold and it would be bad it she brought in the cold with her. As Icy walked into the cave she could feel this place being warming then it was outside. It was still cold, but she couldn't rely on cold to hide her pain for long. The numbness began to fade a little and her blood began to pick up the pace as well. Collapsing on the ground she laid there for a while. She felt weak and tired.

Raising her head she she looked at Icarus. she didn't know what to say, she wouldn't know most of her injures until they really warmed this place up. Still most of her injures she sealed up with ice was starting to melt and she could see red in the ice.
"Uh" she started "I need some help"

Back out of the cave, Midnight was reminded once more of his eldest brother Frozen Stars, oldest prince of Neighland and designated ruler of the northern region of the country. On top of all that Frozen was born an alicorn and had a natural talent for ice magic, which combined to make him the equivalent to a god of winter, though his heart was as cold as his ice. Just off the top of his head Midnight could remember Frozen freezing him alive in a block of ice, which he had been trapped in for a couple hours before his eldest sister and Frozen's twin Summer Breeze found and freed him. But even more similar to the current situation was the time that Frozen trapped him in an illusion of being lost in a blizzard, the only difference was then he had been alone and there hadn't been a country's existence at stake. So in a way, Midnight felt that this whole adventure would be a good benchmark to see how he could compare against his brother.

 

But for the time being Midnight forced himself to focus back on the task at hand, gathering firewood. "Right, we shouldn't have trouble scavenging from the train wreck. At least so long as that thing doesn't come back, but since it's energy is vaguely similar to that of a pony I know I should be able to give us some advance warning if it get's close." Midnight said as he walked with Eclipse and Pavisa. It was curious, that creature's energy felt a lot like Frozen's, just more malicious. Hopefully that didn't become a problem in the future.

Clockwork grinned at Aegis's obliviousness to having been aided by him. "My caster device is the reason you're mended the way you are, that and a bit of the doctor's healing magic." He chuckled, then thought about Aegis's question as he was handed apple slices. "Many thanks, I wouldn't be in very good condition without. I don't believe it will be possible to create such a thing unless I have some proper tools. I would, at the very least, require a forge and hammer with some good materials to work with. Or perhaps even a brazing torch and some pliers. None of which are things I have brought with me." He tore open the packet and began to eat a slice of the contents.

At the mention of putting Scribbler to sleep, Mirror turned around, "I can help with that....it's not exactly the same but he won't feel the pain." She said as she put the cloak back on and pulled the good over her eyes. Mirror lay down in front of Scribbler before tying the harlequin mask around her. "I won't be able to do anything other than concentrate on the spell. Sometimes this is more draining than other times. Please be quick." Mirror lowered her head until her face was merely a few inches away from Scribblers. She sighed before moving her head closer until their horns touched. Both Mirror and Scribbler's eyes began to glow purple.

"Must've healed me when I was asleep, or I'd remember it. Thanks, Clockwork. Greatly appreciated." Aegis said, no longer looking at Clockwork with suspicion. A rumbling in his stomach reminded him why he wanted a pot, pan or suitable substitute. "I don't suppose a piece of metal beaten into shape would do, would it?" It always seemed so easy in adventure novels.

Frost almost snatched the apples away from Aegis with a smile and began to eat them somewhat fast, before realizing that it would be better to eat slower and give the food time to digest. Not to mention it made him look like a pig. Frost looked to Aegis and smiled. "T-thanks Aegis.....I'm glad you made it out to." He stuttered at the beginning of his sentence, but tried to finish confidently. When he saw Blast his smile widened slightly. "Hey Blast, I thought you were dead!" He joked with a chuckle. "Well it's good to see you up and getting around somewhat." He said, continuing to eat his apple slices.

"Heh. I should count myself lucky that I'm even able to be walking in the first place." Blast said to Frost, holding onto his head. Even though he thankfully wasn't in a coma, the sparks of pain were still jolting through his membrane on occasion. "I may have something that may help with our pan situation, though." Blast pulled a small metal rod out of his saddlebags and handed it to Aegis. "Yeah, I carry around a lot of junk. Though, I don't have any sort of pan to stick to it."
