What were the best music concerts you've ever been to?

So, figured I just go out and ask all you fellow ponies out there, what are some of the best concerts you've ever gone to? I'm quite a huge music fan and I'd love to find some other music amigos out there.

And here's a few ideas to add on to what you reply with:

-Who was it?

-Why was it so good?

-Best song(s) from the setlist?

-Any surprises?

-Photos, videos, or anything from the show?

Share your stories, amigos!

  • Breaking Benjamin
  • It was so good because, they allowed all of the fans there to have their autographs.
  • Rain and Diary of Jane
  • Not really.
  • Not yet, it's a secret! ;)

How are they as a live act? My friend loves them but their music seems meh to me (note, I am not giving hate). However, I have seen a number of bands who sell themselves with their live shows.

Coheed and Cambria

It was a small venue, pretty intimate, so I could actually tell what they looked like

Yes

Claudio played guitar behind his head. With all that hair none the less!

Blue October was also amazing live. My husband found them less annoying after we saw them.

To each his own. The only time I heard Breaking Benjamin was at a live concert, but you make a good point.

I saw Breaking Benjamin as well, but I thought the Sick Puppies were way more entertaining. They were playing at the same show >.>

  • The Aquabats (July 2012 @ Comic-Con)
  • They not only played their awesome songs from all their albums, but they also did on stage battles against their enemies.
  • "Look At Me, I'm A Winner!", "The Legend Is True!", and "Burger Rain!"
  • Matt Chapman of Homestar Runner fame (and the producer of The Aquabats Super Show) came on stage as Strong Bad and they band played "Trogdor". Also, John Reis showed up and they covered Rockets From The Crypt.
  • Sadly, no.

Still, they sound like a really fun band live from what I've heard. Thanks for sharing.

Sick Puppies seem like a fun live band. Also, I'm jealous you've seen Coheed and Cambria.

Just Saw AFI on Friday too. My husband said he might go gay for Davey. I told him that would be alright.

No problem, I'm glad that I shared! :)

Any others you've seen by chance? I mean, for mine, I had to pick just one Aquabats show. That and I don't just want to spam this thread with my own concert experiences.

Haha, I know that feeling. I'd go gay for Jonsi of Sigur Ros in a heartbeat. His voice is....that of an angel....an angel who sings to you in a language you can only imagine what it means.

Sadly, I have not. I've only seen that one Breaking Benjamin concert.

Aww, bummer. I hope you get to see more shows in the future.

Aww....dang. Well, it was Mike Portnoy, right? Still an amazing drummer.

The best concert I ever been to was getting to see Iron Maiden play with Alice Cooper back in the summer of 2012.

The first concert I had ever been to back in 2007 I saw: Red, Seether, 3days Grace, and Breaking Benjamin an amazing venue.

My second fav. concert was getting to see AC/DC live in 2009.

I really want to see Rise Against next

Nice, AC/DC live is more of an experience than a concert. Their live albums are amazing in their own right. And Maiden live too? Very nice.

I missed out on Social Distortion a number of times (Mike Ness did a few location shows for Orange County last January. All sold out). I Rancid seems like a band that would be amazing to see live. Same for the Bosstones.

I have seen ZZ Top and Scorpion. They were great, but that's quite it.

But for Saga... a theatre, really intimate, I could see the musicians perfectly - the sound was epic.

Epic songs, prog rock, I'd give this show a 9999999/10, almost got an heart attack. xD

You know what, screw it. I'm gonna share one of the most life changing shows I've ever gone to.

  • Sigur Ros (the greatest Icelandic band....ever)
  • I....I can't describe it. I seriously was being sung to by an angel....Jonsi was simply beautiful with his otherworldly, angelic voice. I seriously cried a few times because it was wonderful.
  • "Ny Batteri" (when that curtain fell....the crowd went nuts), "Hoppipolla", "Olsen Olsen", and  the amazing ending of "Popplagið"
  • Just the curtain falling in the middle of "Ny Batteri" and Jonsi holding a one minute note during "Svefn-g-englar"
  • Yes, I have a photo form it (thanks to someone else, attached)

Nice, ZZ Top. Never heard of Saga though. Apparently they were great. xD

Either Paul McCartney or Crüe Fest 2009

Because it's Paul McCartney! / it was the tour where Godsmack upstaged Crüe and started their fight

Hey Jude when the whole crowd joined in / I can't remember which song it was, but the lead singer hopped on his own set of drums and they had a drum solo battle

No, he rocked it like I thought he would / Godsmack stealing the show and outplaying Motley Crüe

Nope, nothing.

Godsmack upstaging Crue? Dang. And I'm really jealous about McCartney.

First off I rate concerts on a few critera
1 the set
2 crowd interaction
3 The pit!
4 Size
5 Opener/Closer (assuming Im not at a festival)
6 Souvenirs

So far the best one I've ever been too was new noise fest in karlsruhe
All of the bands i went there to watch put up amazing sets! Along with great crowd interaction Allowing fans the mic moshing with them hanging out etc.
The pit and size are generally pretty tightly bound this venue was 800-1000 people just the right sze where the pit is decent and small enough that the stage can be left barrier free.
And i manages to walk away with photos and souveniers a plenty from this concert two drumsticks and photos with band members all of which were really nice dudes btw.

Well, I'm ashamed to say that I've only been to one REAL concert in my life so far (Alice Cooper), but it was AWESOME!

It was like a combination of an audio and a visual experience.

The music was good, there were costumes and giant spiders legs, he was in a straight jacket...my mind was blown at how epic my first concert was (totally worth the three and a half hour wait while listening to Tesla in the sweltering summer sun).
