Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) Recently I've noticed in some threads, members making suggestions of actions that do not really seem like they should be posted on all-age forums. Everywhere from advising people to cut themselves to giving recommendations on which are the best illegal drugs to take. Are these suggestions allowed on forums that are intended for all ages? I ask this because at least one thread had multiple mods post in it without anyone objecting to the fact that the OT encouraged the use of illegal drugs. I'm not blaming the mods, but my question is...is a statement encouraging such actions even allowed on the forums? I know the process for questionable posts is to report such posts and let the mods deal with it but can the rules regarding posts like this please be clarified? FLARE 952 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 Also, I thought that applied to cussing, too. But I've seen lots of pretty bad cussing go unnoticed, as well... ---- Keep the foul language down. Swearing is not forbidden on MLP Forums, but we kindly ask that you keep it to a minimum. Not only is swearing out of place in the My Little Pony universe, but some fans who visit this site may be much closer to the target age than you and will not enjoy seeing the F-Bomb drop on their screen. Swearing is strictly prohibited in topic titles and tags. The odd expletive every now and again for the sake of emphasis or light hearted comedic effect (such as Feld0's video) is fine. But when such words are over-utilised, or used in inappropriate contexts (such as thinly veiled sexual remarks and the like), then we have a problem. Overall, it just comes down to common sense; there's a time and a place for everything, foul language included. While we do regard this as an all ages community, for the sake of avoiding an over-restricting set of rules, we allow a bit of 'love and tolerance' towards strong language, so to speak. Arylett Charnoa 4,919 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) First off, I would presume these suggestions that you have posted LRP would not be allowed on the forums. They seem inappropriate, and are encouraging substances/actions that children shouldn't be taking/doing. We would like the forums to be a safe place for all ages, and not to have anyone endorse inappropriate actions in a positive light. The reason mods might post in some threads with inappropriate posts is simply because they do not have the time to read through the entire thread, and might have missed them before posting. Just because a mod posts in a thread all of a sudden, doesn't mean everything in it is considered totally appropriate and that they suddenly approve. Some threads can get pretty big and moderators are busy people. Which is why reporting, as you have said, is highly advised. If you feel anything at all is inappropriate for the forums - even a little - just report it. Reporting it isn't going to hurt you, and we certainly won't get mad for getting a report if it has alerted us to something we might have missed. I'm not sure if I even saw this thread (the one with the OT encouraging illegal drugs). If I did, and I somehow missed what it was about, then I apologize. (Also, you should probably report this thread if you haven't already so that we can deal with it.) Also, I thought that applied to cussing, too. Marcato 2,143 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 Although swearing is allowed it isn't very appreciated and is prefered to keep it unfrequent. We dont want people dropping f-bombs to describe everything since thats COMPLETE unnecessary. These kind of innapropriate actions should not be tolerated and the people should have their posts removed, and if repeated, be temp-banned or fully banned. I'm not the one who decides this here, but it certainly seems to be the kind of thing that shoudl be done. This is one of the cleanest forums i have ever found, i would really like it to stay that way. 4 ~Relax and enJOY life. ImAvinOops 83 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) If it doesn't get better then maybe there should be a section specifically for older ponies to be a bit rude and suggest things that might not be suitable for younger people. ImAvinOops 83 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 sectioning off an age restricted sub forum would kinda defeat the point of the forums being intended for all ages. I guess but the rest of the forum would still be available for everyone. It would just mean that people could be a bit more free with what they say without having to worry about offending someone.

Marcato 2,143 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 Yes that is definately going too far. We dont need people here anonymously advertising illegal or legal drugs here and trying to get others into that kind of stuff. People here vary from ages 8 - 30 or maybe older. We do NOT need 10 year olds being started on drugs at such a young age, adn with MLP to blame no less! 3 ~Relax and enJOY life. Mephala 2,633 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 People are always like, "Yeah, if you want to feel better about yourself, a hit never hurt anyone." ... Uh, what? Okay, yeah, that's definitely crossing the line. A little swearing is fine, as long as they're not over the top about it, but honestly saying self-harming and drug use is appropriate is definitely NOT okay and those people ought to be given a warning about their actions.
Stoner Spike 185 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) Promoting the use of drugs? Why would that happen on a forum like this...? But I can't say that it isn't funny to see the question "What are you smoking and where can I get some?" every once in a while. Overuse of swearing happens in any forum, though, and with this site's growing amount of users, it might only get worse. Mail the people who swear too much a bar of soap to wash their mouths with. One question, do "hell" and "damn" count as swears?? I use those quite often every day... Edited March 4, 2012 by Midnight Yo Applejack... Y'alright? Victoria and Co. 782 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 I think a little swearing is okay, it's hard to find a place without any on the internet, but the drug endorsements are going to far if you ask me. Laydee Kaze 400 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) I'm going to agree on the terms of promoting illegal drug use. But I can't really see swearing as that much of a problem... ofcourse when it's not excessive. I also strongly agree with ImAvinOops's idea of an age restricted/hidden section, for maybe those kind of threads that tend to end up on the verge of NSFW/Riske in terms of content/conversation. It wont stop the forum being 'for all ages', because it's making a section that hides inappropriate content from young eyes, WHILST being a place for the more older/mature users to go. It's win/win really if you think about it. Edited March 4, 2012 by Laydee Kaze 1 Deviantart
cuteycindyhoney 13,316 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 Use the report feature and give your reasons for objecting. The mods can't see every single post you know. Nico 790 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) If it doesn't get better then maybe there should be a section specifically for older ponies to be a bit rude and suggest things that might not be suitable for younger people. That way people could avoid things like that it if they wanted to. This kind of thing is not going to happen here on MLP Forums. Adding in a 'mature' section has little to no purpose. If members feel the need to talk about things that are deemed inappropriate on the forums there's other, third-party ways to do so, such as Skype. We'd simply be opening up a section of the forums that kids could access via lying about their age if we made a mature section. As for the concerns that LRP has expressed in his OP, we're trying to address them as we can, for we definitely don't want drug or alcohol advocation here on the forums, and influencing self-harm is also something we want to avoid. I feel the need to remind everypony, though, that if you don't REPORT it we may not notice it. There are only nine of us and hundreds of other users posting all the time; it's very difficult for us to look at everything if reports aren't used. Reporting things instantly alerts mods to issues across the site and allows us to take action as we see fit, so if you see something that you think is wrong, don't be afraid to report it. It's anonymous to other members and can help keep MLP forums cleaner for everyone! Regarding cursing, though, I think it has been said plenty of times here already, but: You can swear on the forums so long as you do not do so in excess and with little to no reason behind it. Daring Do 195 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 Well, you can never guarantee the age range of any forum. It is just whoever comes across it and thinks this is a cool site. Things like cursing, violence, and NSFW can hardly ever be pulled away from fillies when that sort of thing occurs. That's why it is our responsibility to limit these things, and if necessary, mark them carefully so younger people will not have to see it. Sandwhisper 33 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 If it doesn't get better then maybe there should be a section specifically for older ponies to be a bit rude and suggest things that might not be suitable for younger people. That way people could avoid things like that it if they wanted to. I do remember on one forums I used to frequent they used to have a section for adults. It was an Animal Crossing forums, and the section was called "Grownup Gamers" or something, but the few times I did go in, the topics weren't all about gaming. They certainly were more family-friendly, language-wise at least, but possibly because the language filter the forums had prevented you from swearing by stopping you from posting anything with curses in it. It doesn't seem like a terribly bad idea anyway... Well, younger people can still just go on their profile and set their birthdate back a couple of years and would thus be able to access those threads anyway. Maybe make it so it's more difficult to change your birthdate?
Lillia 69 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 Admittedly, I swear like a sailor in real life, but given the subject matter this forum is about, I don't believe the way I talk in real life is appropriate for this community. So there's that. I do appreciate how much self-restraint I've seen here in my brief time with you all, and even with the problems that have come up recently, I honestly think this is the kindest and friendliest forum I've ever been on. 2 The Most Misunderstood Mare... Legendary Emerald 622 March 4, 2012 Share March 4, 2012 (edited) I swear from time to time in order to emphasize my jokes, and have been prone to use harsher swears in Strong Hoove's and I's private RP thread. I don't find anything at all wrong with swearing, and while it may be immature for people to swear too much, its also immature for people to get upset about mere words. That said, flaming of any sort, whether swearing is involved or not, shouldn't be allowed. Even though I'm not a drug user, I have nothing against the discussion of it here. Still, it doesn't make too much sense to do so on a forum like this, regardless of the diversity of our members. So I agree with the mod's decisions on that. Also, every time you cut yourself, god kills a pony. Think about that.
