Regarding the relationship between Pinkie and AJ...

First off I was a little hesitant to start this topic just because there has already been multiple threads discussing the subject, but not exactly in the way I want to. Actually, I don't really want to even discuss it so much as I want to create a simple poll. This thread asked whether you thought the show should not have left the episode so open ended but I'm interested to know how many of you after watching the episode think that Pinkie is in fact related to the Apples and those who don't. 

 

Leading up to the episode I didn't think they'd end up being related and even after watching it the first time I still didn't think so but after watching the episode a second time I noticed something that I think might be a tiny hint that changed my mind. Remember the "Jenga" scene before the credits where Pinkie pulled a scroll from the bottom of the tower but it didn't collapse. Golden Delicious did the exact same thing with her pile of books.

the similarity between the two scenes does look very intentional.

 

Now I might just be looking for any coincidence but isn't there some sort of epigenetic inheritance thing (wow mixing genetics with MLP, I've sunk to a new low) where certain genetic material is passed down directly to the new generation from the previous. Maybe GD and Pinkie both inherited the same "Jenga Master" Gene from an ancestor. I'm at the point where I'm just laughing at myself now so I better stop but I hope you get what I mean, like when family members share the same habits or skills. Anyway if you could at least leave a vote that'd be appreciated.

I think the hint in general was that she's related to Pinkie Pie. There are also clues in the gingerbread house she had for lunch (Pinkie too loves her candy), the fact that she has a load of cats (one of Pinkie's quotes is "Crazy cat lady!" although that might be far-fetched), the fact that both their manes have the same curly, poofy style. If you'll also recall, Pinkie Pie greeted Twilight with "Ahh yourself!" and Goldie Delicious greeted the Apples with "Hello yourself!" Little hints to keep us entertained. The new writer is impressive.

Yea, I noticed that scene too. But well, it may indeed be a hint, but we'll probably never know for sure.

But it's nice they touched the theme of genealogy.

 

What bothered me the most is that dust cat. Was this a real cat? o_O

I noticed the same thing too, the new writer did a good job showing that Pinkie Pie is related to AJ but they left us hanging in the end and I think the little hints that they left could clarify if they are related or not. If you ask me, I think they are.

Yeah I don't things like that can be coincidence. I'm sure the writers put a bunch of tiny things in that we don't pick up on.

Yeah that got me a little puzzled also. How would dust even form in the shape of a cat like that haha.

they opened the door for AJ and Pinkie being related and they closed it again with an incognito, actually I rather do not break my head thinking about things that probably won't be mentioned before. In the end the episode was SUPAH FUN, HILARIOUS, MAGNIFICENT, SMART!

I thought it was interesting that both Pinkie, and Golden were both good at Jenga. Anyways, I personally do think they're related.

It's a possibility. I don't know. I don't care. They both come from rural society and do to the sheer size and spread of Applejacks family, it's not out of the question. Doesn't really matter. Distance relations at best.

I think she is, but not for the reasons everypony else says.  I agree with Applejack:

 

"I can know for sure that it doesn't matter what the book says or doesn't say. After all you've been through with us and all you've put up with, it's obvious you're an Apple to the core!"

Meh, family isn't all about about blood.

Apart from invalidating a couple of shippings, I really don't see how this matters.

SE2 taught us that all of the Mane Six are already considered honourary family members anyway.
