I'm curious about how you view death

Hopefully this fits here, not too sure if it does or not. If it doesnt I appologize in advance, and please move this post.

Anyways I am curious on everyone's thoughts. After watching 47 Ronin a few weeks ago this odd thing popped in my head. Now my mind can go to some dark places, and I am curious as to what this means to you guys. I love hearing different views on things. But anyways what does this statement that popped in my head mean to you?

I do not fear death, I only fear the concept of pain. I embrace death for it is the truth we seek. The truth we go through life searching for, we find at last at the end of our lives.

To me it means I fear pain more than I ever will death. I dont know what purpose I serve to this world, but with how I can be so oblivious to myself I will find out at a time that is too late.

Yeah a bit odd but I know the same words spoken can mean so many things, it just depends on the person and how they view it. That is what I wanna know. So I ask again, what does it mean to you?

What does what mean to me? Death? I guess it is just the beginning of another life for me, since i am Christian, i believe in an afterlife. But that doesn't make life not worth living, YOLO, so don't waste it.

I don't like pain, so I'm extra careful not to get hurt, i've never broken a bone before, so i've never experienced strong physical pain i suppose.

Death has long been thought to be the ultimate of the Universe if there is no God; without a thing above or outside of nature to give nature meaning, there is simply nothing matter and electrons or whatever-have-you can do to give themselves [itself] significance in the grand scheme of things, and every thought short of that is either speciesism or delusions of grandeur.

I myself am a believer in God and do not think that absolute truth is directed towards meaninglessness.

i don't fear death itself, really. what i fear most is the process of dying.

if anything, death itself is inevitable. this is why i live life to the fullest, because in the end, nobody knows what really lies beyond the point of a human's death.

eh. If you ask me,

Death is just when you body gets so old it doesn't have enough energy or health to live on (which it is). When you die you die and your body decays. There's nothing more to it, you won't even know you're dead since you don't exist, you can't think or anything :P

I don't fear death.

Fear of death is natural. It keeps us surviving. Granted, everyone and everything dies eventually. However, if a car is coming toward you, do you not jump out of the way? If madman's wielding a gun, do you not hide from him? If you're suffering from a serious illness, do you not go to the hospital? Maybe you're not afraid of dying of old age, but I'm sure there's some part of your subconscious triggering fear response in your brain when dangerous things happen in order to keep yourself alive. That's just human. No, that's just natural for cognizant beings.

Having nearly died a few times, I do fear death. It's not a looming thing like I see death at every turn or anything like that, but if I'm in a situation where I think I could die, it scares me. Maybe I'll be more accepting of the idea of death when I'm, like, 70, but for now, I'm way too young to die and there are too many things I wanna do. It's not dying eventually that scares me. Dying now scares me.

As for "truth," what do you learn on your deathbed that you don't learn in life? Maybe what it's like to die, sure. But there's no bit of information that you come into when you die. No unlocked parts of the brain. No universal knowledge. You simply cease to be.

I like to compare Death to a computer. Why? Each morning, turn it on, enjoy. Bad things happen, it gets fixed. Like a human being, broke your leg? Just wait.

Both have their fun moments and sad moments. Laughter from a joke or a glitch in a game. Good times and bad times. Reading a horror story online and watching a horror movie.

Emotions are displayed. Time goes on, however, that machine starts to wear down. Like a human aging, the bones get weaker, the mind slower. Then, the plug is pulled. That's it. Good bye. Good bye old machine and comes in the new. Could Death be a passage to another life or is it just like pulling the plug? I like to think Death is a passage to another life. Just to keep my fears down.

I'm terrified of it.

I've had pretty bad experiences that have driven me to high levels of depression and anxiety, most of which are rooted deep from my childhood.

I can't tell whether it is the manner of dying, or the lack of knowledge we have about it. But one thing is certain. Death is an experience unlike any that our mortal lives can offer.

I knew this would take a dark path of responses, but some of these responses sound pretty deep. Im liking it though, reading these makes me wanna get back to the story I was writing.

I think of death as the end of my story. When I'm reading, I don't keep looking at my page number in horror as I progress towards the back of the book, I enjoy it as I go. Death isn't something I worry about because I don't think there's an epilogue. After the last page, there's nothing more to be read.

So to translate this metaphor: worrying about death to me is really meaningless. It's almost inevitable and I'm more comfortable existing in a void of nothing as opposed to some kind of afterlife.

Like most others have said, it's a natural part of life, and really, it's the only thing in existence tht you can be absolutely sure will happen, one way or another.

I don't personally think anything happens after death. You just...die. You no longer exist. Therefore, there's nothing to be afraid of.

That said, if I die, and I'm greeted with an afterlife, I'll be quite pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding my breath ;)

Death is a necessary part of life that everyone has to experience, and it's nothing to be afraid of. I think of it this way, I was never inconvenienced by not being alive before I was born, it didn't really matter because I didn't have a brain, so I couldn't process things. Death is the same, remember that the human is nothing more than matter working together in such a way that it allows us to be conscious and intelligent, when you die, the matter that builds your body is still physically there, you just aren't conscious anymore. I'll become part of other great things, the physical atoms that build up my body might become part of another person, or a plant, or whatever. Regardless, I'm not scared of death, I'm afraid of pain.

I like the idea of reincarnation, but it's really depressing to not know about the people you loved in the past lives you've lived in, an afterlife ran by the christian god would be radical, too; but the sad truth that most likely nothing happens after death, you have to face it, it's comfortable knowing that it's just like the years before you were born, so it's all nothing.

I would like to note before my sort of-cousin's grandmother's death, she said the following:

"do you see him?"

"who? see who?"

thinking of dying in general depresses me.

I view death with indifference. Its the one thing we can guarantee in life and not have any doubts about.

The only true constant that exists everywhere for everything.

So it really means nothing to me. What I find more important is life and making the best of it within reason.

My opinion is - it's almost like going to sleep.

Except you never wake up and.. well don't exist anymore.

The only thing that would bother me about death, is I died with a lot of regrets.

Other than that, I don't really have to much to say about beyond what just about everybody else has.

I do not fear death, I embrace it because if this is life then how is death. Always questions of what may be next, so I look forward to it. Doesn't matter what happens after we die, it may be nothing or it may be something. We all die one day, so there is no reason fearing it could just as well look forward to it or at least not fear it.

I believe in heaven or hell. Physical death is a reality for all of us. Whether it be tomorrow or till our age of breath. But my view on death is that I value life. I care about other's lives more than my own. That's my esteem though, many deaths in this world are over things such as war. I don't support any side. Men are men, women are women. All life is valuable. Whether someone does good or bad. I believe what we do in this life, we will answer to God for what we have done. Because there is more to life, than getting a job, making money and just being here. I believe we have an eternal purpose.
