Nature's Spell 526 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 I think they are compatmentizing it way too much and they are taking their sweet time introducing her duties, but maybe they have a reason for taking it slow. Her status came up several times, so I'm hopping this is a turning point. Twilight Time promises to deal with her being a princess. FoxyCryptid 4,330 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 I think so, I like the way they're trying to make the development subtle instead of parading it around in neon lights. It's like I sad, subtle: but you can see that she's started to grow-up a little bit more as a character. "You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that." -Duncan McLeod.
Scootalove 10,692 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 (edited) I believe so, the writers are taking their time introducing her royal duties so the fans can see if the writers are handling the whole Twilicorn thing. With the overarching arcs this season, I think the writers are trying to balance the development the best they can do so they are trying to handle it. The best thing to do is, not to milk the whole royalty thing. Gravelord Neat-O 305 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 i didn't have a problem when they decided to make her an alicorn. I was actually pleased with that idea.
Planty 1,053 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 I feel that sometimes this season it is a bit odd, she seems to hold back some of her powers and rarely fly's (but I can understand why, its hard to remember you have wings when your not used to it). But in a way I like it! Today's episode was really well done, and let her be more powerful because she had Cadence as a yardstick and not some of her normal friends. So far they have handled it really well! 2 Have ANY questions about Christianity? INBOX ME!
duidamasterXD 9,627 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 (edited) Feels like they're avoiding having to handle it at all, largely. I feel like they set themselves up for a tricky situation by doing something that realistically should shake things up and change Twilight's life a lot, but also wanting to maintain the feel of the show that caused people to like it in the first place. So far, the season could be largely the same if Magical Mystery Cure had never happened with the exception of a scene in the premiere that most didn't seem to enjoy as it was, and a few other minor changes overall here and there. All things considered though, I prefer things they are now though. If she's going to be a princess, I'd rather they gloss over it and keep the general vibe of the show rather than screwing everything over just to milk the whole royalty thing. zev_zev The outcast 418 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 It's just old good Twilight who lives in tree-library, they just add a wings. And, I'm totally satisfied.
Nature's Spell 526 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 (edited) One thing that occurred to me during this episode was that at least twice they compared Cadence's princess lifestyle with Twilight's princess lifestyle. Now it could just be the difference between a princess-in-waiting and reigning princess, but I'm starting to wonder if they are setting Twilight up to be a different kind of princess. Royal and respected, but more a princess of the ponies. InkyJay 21 January 25, 2014 Share January 25, 2014 I'd say that the writers are handling Twilicorn relatively well so far, but I think it's more accurate to call her a princess in training. Even though she has a new pair of wings, there's nothing else around to showcase her as royalty. It makes sense that the changes to her personal life would happen slowly, but surely. Perhaps the trials of the box will help clarify her title to the ponies of Equestria. Speaking of the box, after this week's episode, does anyone get the feeling that Discord is unwittingly subbing for Celestia as Twilight's teacher. I was certainly convinced when Discord brought up that being friends in title doesn't mean you're friends for real. I wonder how much Twilight would fangasm if Discord turned out to be a transformed Starswirl. Wouldn't that make her feel stupid for avoiding Discord so much? Metemponychosis 1,262 January 26, 2014 Share January 26, 2014 I'd say no. Unless they are going for something big with Twilight being a princess, It feels like they were afraid of changing her too much. I guess the problem is that Twilight just seems to be useless, unnecessary as a princess. She doesn't have anything to do, like the other princesses. 2 https://www.fimfiction.net/user/32864/Metemponychosis For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out. And I'm just getting started.

It's funny you should mention that, because I've been getting the uneasy feeling that Discord's up to something here. I and a friend have been talking it over, and it seems that Discord wouldn't have just left those seeds in Episode 1 to grow without a reason. I wonder if he's trying to turn Twilight evil, but if he did turn out to be Starswirl the Bearded, then why would he do that? Twilight's a fan of his (as we saw in Luna Eclipsed when she donned his costume), and there's no real cause for Starswirl to turn Twi against her friends, but I wonder, maybe within the depths of Discord's consciousness lies a tiny bit of Starswirl, and that tiny bit is mighty upset that Twilight succeeded at mastering a spell that turned him insane, and mutated him into a draconequus. After all, he believed he was the finest in the arts of magic, and knowing that there's somepony out there, stronger and more accomplished than him, I don't think Starswirl's very happy with that, which is why he's subbing Celestia as Twilight's student; to turn her to the dark side. What about the idea that Starswirl (before turning into Discord) believed that friendship was just a flimsy chain used by other ponies to either climb up to the same social class level or rein in and subdue potential threats. Before his transformation, Starswirl was probably obsessed with creating magic that would consistently trump the Elements of Harmony. He couldn't understand what made something so vague and "flimsy" as friendship so powerful. If you ask me, Discord seems more intent on breaking Twilight than converting her to "evil". Turning Twilight evil would shut down the elements for one generation at best, but if Discord could convince Twilight and, in effect, the creatures in Equestria that friendship is just a farce, the elements could be unusable for centuries or even millenia. Discord is only staying tame for now so that he can push Twilight's philosophy on friendship to its very limits, and these trials will bring Twilight closer to her key. I'm honestly hoping that, in an ironic twist, Discord will have been holding Twilight's key this whole time. It just makes so much sense. Twilight and Starswirl are so similar to each other, but if Starswirl were to see her now, he would be wondering why Twilight is so well off when she hasn't put as nearly as much time to the grindstone as he has. Creating 200+ new spells is nice, but that achievement kind of pales in comparison to completing the one spell that lets you achieve divinity. Yeah.....because if Starswirl manages to break Twilight and confuse her with the twisted reality that friendship is a farce, then effectively her princesshood becomes meaningless, and worse still. Without friendship, harmony cannot exist.........of course! I think I know Starswirl's plan! He's not turning Twilight evil, he's trying to destroy harmony itself! It all makes sense now! In Episode 1, he tried to disable the Tree of Harmony by planting those tentacle seeds in the Everfree Forest. Unfortunately, that plan was foiled, so Starswirl decided to break Twilight by feeding her lies and deceit about friendship, playing the act of a tame lion until the time was right. Besides, it was Discord's plan all along. To bask in a world of chaos with him as ruler. Edited January 26, 2014 by ~Psychotic Blitz~ "Ideals are peaceful.........history is violent" Sgt. hawkflame 3,315 January 26, 2014 Share January 26, 2014 About as problematically as I envisioned it, really. They seem to only remember that she's an alicorn princess when it's convenient to the plot. It's a shame, because the rest of the season has been excellent for the most part. Besides, it was Discord's plan all along. To bask in a world of chaos with him as ruler. I wouldn't say that Discord is feeding Twilight blatant lies. It's more like Discord is pointing out all of the inherent flaws in the concept (or at least Twilight's concept) of friendship in the hopes that Twilight will be broken by the inability to find a suitable answer, and simply turning Discord back into stone would just prove him right, meaning that disharmony would soon follow his imprisonment, thus freeing him early. On the other hand, if Twilight does pass all of the trials he forces on her and find a good answer, Discord will be better off regardless since he'll have a reason to genuinely believe that friendship is magic, meaning that Twilight and friends will trust him more and lengthen his leash. TurtlesForSale 128 January 26, 2014 Share January 26, 2014 In some ways I like how they are developing the character slowly, but in other ways I get annoyed that no other ponies are bothered about the princess, like in the episode Rarity Takes Manehattan some ponies treated twilight as if she was just another old unicorn. 1 Go away Pikachu, you aren't an Eevee evolution :okiedokielokie:

Subscriber Denim&Venöm 20,471 January 28, 2014 Subscriber Share January 28, 2014 Not handling it doesn't equate to handling it well. I was expecting major changes, challenges, drama and character depth with Twilight's ascension. I was hoping that this series would progress. But it seems like the writers are glossing over Twilicorn. What was the point of turning her princess if it wasn't going to be crucial to the next season (other than to sell more toys). I just wanted to see more. There's so much potential in Alicorn Twilight. I'm dissapointed. Dammit DHX, capitalize!
Nature's Spell 526 January 28, 2014 Share January 28, 2014 (edited) Perhaps it's just Discord being Discord, but look at this exchange from Three's a Crowd: Discord: "Now that she's a princess, maybe she's decided that she's too good for you." Twilight Sparkle: I have never considered myself t- Discord: But how was I supposed to know for sure that I'm truly still friends with one of the most important ponies around? Twilight Sparkle: I'm not more- I think the lady protests too much. She is important and he knows it and for more than just being a princess. Her cutie mark was at the heart of the TOH and that means something, but what it means is yet to be shown. One big issue is that her whole achievement structure has been thrown away with her "graduating" to Alicornhood. She has no mentor to impress or tests to pass and it's akin to the summer after you graduated college. Many have not found their direction yet and are waiting. She has no Royal duties, so she's in limbo but at some point the honeymoon will be over and she has to get to work.
