You like ponies, why don't you like football, or cars, or hockey, or fights, or sex, or girls, or more sex, or action movies, or......

Yup that is what society thinks teenage boys should like they find out about them being bronies. :(

Of the things OP listed, I'm a fan of FiM, but I'venever had any experience with Jem other than the Nostalgia Chick's review. I used to watch the dub of Sailor Moon in middle school, and now I'm having to go to a local gunstore to shoot OP dead for mentioning the book "Twilight" without the words "abominable piece of crap" anywhere in that post. ;)

Also, I was a huge fan of the show Kappa Mikey back when it was on Nick Toons.

Apparently most of the internet hates that cartoon now, but I loved almost everything about it. I met some awesome people in the fandom, wrote some of the most popular fanfiction in existence for the series, and found out about the amazing band "The Beat Crusaders".

Sailor Moon! That was awesome for me when I was a kid! I also watched Twilight and found it quite dull.

I love you! <3

Metal.

Because apparently it's a bunch of freaks who like dead things.

Which is only half true.

I also really like ultra right wing people.

Did you ever think I get lonely?

Did you ever think that I needed love?

Did you ever think, stop thinking

You're the only one that I'm thinking of?

Stuff I like that others tell me is weird/I should be ashamed of:

-MLP FIM

-

-

-TF2 after F2P happened (I think the noobs are hilarious)

-Cartoons in general (such as Chowder)

-

-Arrow in the knee jokes:P

-

-Furry stuff

-

-Strategy games (apparently taking over the world isn't as "cool" as shooting stuff now)

Science fiction still gathers a wide array of negative feedback from society.Playing video games makes people immature for some reason.

However in the original post. I see Twilight is mentioned. And the problem is, it's really a genre movie. It's meant for teenage girls age 13-14. But it also gains a lot of undeserved exposure. And that induces hate.

Everypony tells me that I shouldn't think Trixie is best pony, that Rarity, or Twilight is the best pony.

But I know better.

Pony society can disagree with me all they want, but I will never think otherwise besides the fact that Trixie is best pony.

Oh yeah, and liking any animated show that isn't mature like Family Guy or something and being 13+ is highly frowned upon, which is sad.

Many of the things mentioned in this topic are things I've been told I should be ashamed of.

MLP (Obviously)

Sailor Moon (And other magical girl shows in general such as Tokyo Mew Mew/Mew Mew Power)

Furries

Nickelback

Pretty much anything viewed as childish or only for children (Not to say I like everything, I'm no fan of Dora but only by choice not through hate)

Dubbed anime (Trust me, it starts more arguments than you could possibly believe when your preference is dub over sub at ALL times)

Sexualized versions of characters that are not originally presented as sexual, such as ponies from MLP. (Not necessarily in a porn sense, mind you.)

Stupid humor, stuff that is so stupid some people don't even consider it funny because you don't have to think about it. (Like Cyanide and Happiness comics)

The Sonic franchise in it's entirety (Dead serious, I even like Sonic 06)

Lolis (Note: Not sexualized children, lolis. There is a difference)

Deciding not to drink alcohol, especially on my 21st birthday. People literally looked down on me for not even caring about drinking and for choosing to stay at home and do nothing on my birthday. It was at this point that I stopped caring about what was "socially acceptable." Not that I cared before but now I straight up will defy it because if that's what's socially acceptable, to the point of hazing out people who don't partake in it, then I want nothing to do with what society deems acceptable.

You should be ashamed if you like twilight. It's an affront to literature.

I think the OP has totally proven his point.

I might be only of the only three people who don't like nor dislikes twilight, justin bieber and the such. We all three are the only ones who just lets people be, and most importantly have never watched or listened to those stuff

I actually tried to show Cyanide and Happiness and Invisible Bread to people and they are like "You post the weirdest shit, this isn't even funny" on other forums.

Also, I'm also one of those people who doesn't care either which way about Twilight or Justin Bieber. I admit I like the one or two songs I heard from Justin and I am intrigued enough to read Twilight but I'm still in the "not caring" camp on both.

Um...let's see here.

Ponies

Old Cartoons (Tom & Jerry, for example)

Some childish TV shows (Spongebob, The Fairly Odd Parents, etc.)

Furries

NOT A FAN OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL...

Not a fan of basketball

Completely random/stupid things (I find it so stupid that it's funny; Asdfmovie, Stick Figures on Crack, etc.)

That was all I could think of in a minute, but I'm sure there's more.

Yo Applejack...

Y'alright?

I posted this on my Facebook:

"You shouldn't be ashamed to love this show [MLP]; you should be ashamed of smoking sh*t and doing f*ck."

It was aimed towards the potheads and drunken losers at my school, even though they aren't even a friend of mine on Facebook. Or in person.

This color indicates me.

This color indicates my sister.

Oh my gosh why are we talking about this?

Look I thought we settled this argument a while ago.

Three words: My Little Pony.

One word: Inuyasha.

Hey, Inuyasha has a great art style.

I used to wonder what friendship could be.

People mock me for being a Nintendo fan of all things. They're all like:

"How can you like Legend of Zelda? It's a dumb baby game!"

"How can you like Pokemon? It's a stupid RPG!"

"How can you like Ace Attorney? It's a game about court!"

"How can you like Super Mario Galaxy? It's a pointless platformer!"

The list goes on... *exasperated* http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

Staying inside playin video games and watch MLP rather than going to the club and spending $50 doll hairs on alcohol.

I just love how when their is someone that doesn't follow the pack their looked at as the black sheep.

And something better than twilight. True Blood... and its sometimes is hard to even explain that show when Twilight gave vampires a bad name... just sayin

I agree that this situation can be quite annoying :/ But I think slowly but surely, this is becoming lesser the case.

10 years ago, the internet wasn't nearly as popular as it is now, obviously. We all watched mainstream media, and that was our only form of public media consumption. We read newspapers, watched TV a lot more and bought magazines etc. Who controls the content for these mediums?

Large media corporations of course, and their objective is to make money. It was the job of executives at media companies to choose what media should portray as cool and not cool, to choose what hobbies and interests they should portray to the masses as interesting. The media had control of the social norms of interests in their hands, so obviously they were going to choose interests which would reap the largest profits.

A good example of this is reality TV shows. A large number of people think of them as total rubbish, but to media companies.. they're cheap to produce and thus they will do all they can to market it as cool, and there will always be people who buy into it.

After the introduction of the internet however, the consumer was able to create/publish and discuss media without the influence of the large corporations. For the first time, on a global level, you were allowed to show any, perhaps more specialist hobbies you may have (Bronies as an example). I mean we can network with one another, and create our own series of media to enjoy. People can critique media, and provide/debate on what they would prefer to see.

I see how although the situation is mostly the same, more and more now you see people with less mainstream hobbies, and for one I hope this continues. I hopefully begin studying Media Production this year, which entails learning how to produce TV shows. I am doing this because I hope for the next generation of media to have a much larger focus on what the user wants, and I hope that we can change the model of mainstream media to accommodate more of the open and sharing based natures of the internet.

I've always wanted to produce a show which indulges in the smaller hobbies/interests out there. Not in a patronising way like most do, or in a fashion of "LOOK HOW WEIRD THIS IS" as most media tends to aim to do. But more of an indulgence in things which are different, in an environment which offers the viewers a chance of participation, or at least an insight into the interests behind the people focused.

TLDR: Hopefully in the future, we have more of a say in the interests at the heart of mainstream media, opposed to being drip fed what is supposed to conform to social norms.

Me: I don't use facebook.

Random person: Are you Amish?

That's a familiar story XD

I'd rather spend the money on a game that can entertain me and my friends for days.
