The Last of Us Trilogy

So, The Last of Us was released in 2013, and Uncharted 4 was also announced by the name of just UNCHARTED, and it will be a PS4 exclusive.

As we all know (or most of us), The Last of Us is likely to be it's own trilogy as Uncharted once was.

I won't be surprised if Naughty Dog does this. I think The Last of Us trilogy should be made, because they have so many back stories to experiment with, and they can even end the trilogy with a cure.

With the poor plot holes in Uncharted 2 & 3, I think Naughty Dog isn't well suited for overarching stories.  Also, Last of Us does not contain a very sequel-friendly concept.

I think it does have a sequel-friendly concept. Just like The Walking Dead, I mean TWD could've reasonably ended it at Season One. They could progress further with backstories what happened during the 20 years, like a backstory of how Joel and Tess met or anything if they don't plan to make all the backstories DLC. I thought Left Behind would be the only DLC of backstories they would do, and that the rest would be just other stuff.

The AI should be better if that were to happen XD

Nah, but seriously, I could get down with The Last of Us being it's own series. Though, like Forlong said, Uncharted 2 and 3 were riddled with plot holes. I've never really put Naughty Dog as a grand story teller. I still think they completely sold out to the modern era when they sold both Crash Bandicoot and Jak and DaXter for something more edgy like Nathan Drake (Pisses me off. That's why I have little respect for Naughty Dog)

Still, The Last of Us did have a good story, probably as compelling as The Walking Dead's. They've learned over time, and I think the Last of Us proves it well enough. Though, they can't forget that the narrative isn't all you need. If I want a good narrative, I'll watch a movie or read a book. When I play a game, I expect compelling mechanics and gameplay. A good narrative helps, but gameplay will always be most important. If they can step up the gameplay problems that were in The Last of Us, I could get down with them making continuations.

I think they should just leave the story of Joel and Ellie be. I don't really want anything to tamper with that ending. So, even if a sequel were to happen, I want someone else to star in it.

Spyro wasn't Naughty Dog. You're talking about Jak & Daxter.

someone at ND said that if a sequel were to occur, Joel and Ellie won't be the main characters

Exactly. Joel and Ellie should be left alone. I could understand something about the brothers, or Tess, or even Marlene.

With the way The Last of Us ended, it was boldly confirmed that Ellie and Joel's story line was officially closed/finished. They even announced that if there was anything else related to the story, that they would not be a part of it unless it was a prequel.

Which is actually what they did with the upcoming DLC release Left Behind. (coming out 02/14/2014)

If there was a trilogy being discussed it would probably revolve around other victims of the apocalyptic situation.... kinda like... what they should do... with the walking dead.... >_>

but thats just my opinion XD

Honestly I don't think that we will see continue of Joel&Ellie story. It was open final, great ending. Continue of their story will just ruin this feeling of of uncertainty.

As like I always talking: "Some stories no need to be continued"

P.S. DLC about Ellie and Riley based on comics, comming soon (looks like it will be a little different story than it was in comics).

The Last of Us is a very touchy subject for me. I consider it to be the single greatest story ever told, and I don't want it to be touched in any way, shape, or form. The Last of Us proved that gaming can be an immersive storytelling experience, in stark contrast to The Walking Dead game, which was basically just a decent animated movie with some light puzzle solving, poor voice acting, and choices that meant nothing.

And also unlike TWD, The Last of Us had an incredibly definitive ending. There were no loose ends to tie up, and we had no need to see anything else happen in this universe. It's not incredibly complex, and it doesn't rely on its universe nearly as much as just the characters themselves. It's an incredibly specific story about incredibly specific characters.

Continuing with Joel and Ellie's story (in either direction) would cheapen it to no end, and starting a brand new story with brand new characters would just make it feel like a needless rehash at best, and completely unrelated at worst.

It's like with the Home Alone movies: continue Kevin's story, and it feels cheapened and unnecessary; switch to a new character, and he's utterly dull and has none of the charm that the original did. I don't want that.

I'm not against the idea of a continuation of The Last of Us, but I'd only go as far as one sequel. The original game was deep, immersive, well-written, and extremely engaging, and I feel like the developers could work their magic a second time, as long as they keep with the story exactly where the original game left off, without tossing in new and unnecessary plot devices or over-the-top gameplay mechanics.

Long story short, if the story does continue, I wouldn't mind. Nothing Naughty Dog does will ever ruin the impression that the first game left on me, and if there's a chance they could duplicate the success and churn out another game that's just as good, they've definitely earned the right to try.

I've got an idea! No..... No, wait; it's just a concussion....
