movies/tv Could Disney Be Reaching Another Golden Age?

So we all know Disney has had a stride of amazing movies in the recent years as a nice refresher from probably its dark age from in my opinion the mid to late 2000s. So I wonder, could Disney be entering another golden age? I mean ever since Princess and the Frog came out, it's just been good movie after good move for them with movies like the Winnie the Pooh one in 2011, Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, and more recently Frozen. It also feels like it's improving on one problem I have with Disney's older movies, the princesses actually do more stuff. Seriously, these recent princesses evolve from the stereotypical damsel in distress, to more of strong women capable of fighting for themselves.

I thought Tangled was pretty good, and Wreck-It-Ralph wasn't bad, but I didn't think Disney was ever gonna make another really good movie like the ones from the 90s. But, wow, Frozen really changed my mind on that. I actually didn't expect Frozen to be so amazing, I only saw it cause I was hearing good things about it. I knew I was forgetting a movie. Thanks of reminding me. I forgot about Tangled, which had another heroine who fought for herself, and it had some classic frying pan slapstick.

Disney always seems to go through a lapse... They began their first full length animated feature with Snow White... Which was the original classics... Then there's the disney Dark ages through the 60s, 70s and early 80s... Then the Disney Renaissance period with the Little Mermaid at the end of the 80s through to the mid to late 90s... Then another lapse in the 2000s up to (in my opinion) 2009 with the princess and the frog... And on through then with Frozen most recent... This new era is already considered a high point in the Disney timeline... So yes disney is entering another golden age... But this is the norm as it has happened twice before

Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, and Frozen are fantastic. Really the key here is Disney purchasing Pixar. Since they've gotten into 3d animation they're films have gotten better and Pixar's are getting a bit less edgy (Brave and Cars 2). But yes it's a serious boost for Disney in quality and aiming above just children. If you include Pixar films as part of Disney's backcatalog (certainly with Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and other Pixar films being in their theme parks) then that means its actually been going on for awhile.

I've also noticed an uptick in quality with Disney movies(Saw Princess and the Frog, regretted missing Tangled, saw Winnie the Pooh, saw and enjoyed Wreck-it Ralph, and I Think Frozen should be the model on what Disney Princesses should be all about).  Heck, I'll say that movie cartoons are starting to see a bit more quality in them compared to some live action movies.(Ex: Lego Movie, and I heard the upcoming Peabody and Sherman movie is also really good).

I think so. I think there were a lot of reasons for this. First, in the 2000s, Disney began to deviate from the formula it had perfected in the renaissance. Why this is, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with Dreamworks. Here in the 2010s, Disney has gone back to the old formula of making musical-style retellings of fairy tales. And y'know what, it freaking works. That's what they should have been doing all along. I know Wreck-It Ralph wasn't like that, but I dunno what kind of magic happened there. It was just good.

 

I also think that maybe, they were just laying back and riding on the coattails of Pixar's success. While Disney had mostly (if not entirely) flops in the 2000's, that's where Pixar really stood out and shined. Granted, not every movie was a masterpiece, but most of them were really great. In fact, most of the movies Pixar's ever done are good movies. Pixar's just a good studio. But anyway, I dunno if it was just laziness or what, but yeah, I think Pixar basically carried the Disney company through the 2000's.

 

Also, I believe they've brought back Alan Menken? They did on at least one, I know. That definitely helped. I dunno if this is another renaissance, but it's sure looking that way. Every movie they've had in the 2010's, they've knocked out of the park. I'm hoping to see more good things in the near future.

I have to admit, there has been a LOT from them that has been impressing me! Heck, I'm not even thinking of movies - Gravity Falls, Wander over Yonder, and even the many new Mickey Mouse shorts on YouTube have had a lot of witty charm and humor in them.

 

I've heard so much good about Frozen (and kinda liked Tangled) that I'm really thinking I should see that at some point. I get the impression it's not in theatres anymore though, so I'm holding on till I can buy/rent it online somewhere.

its possible, i mean i loved Tangled! and the Croods was one of my favourites but personally, i hated Frozen. i thought it sucked lol. buuut, other than that they havent brought out a movie that i didnt like in a looong time i do like that theyre making women stronger, but they have never really been bad at making their females powerful, i don't think.

Disney has made some good movies lately, and they've knocked each movie that they made right out of the park. Disney is entering the Golden Age once again, but I'm not surprised that they are.

I'm fairly sure I'll get at least some hate for this, but I prefer the more recent films over the old ones. When I watched Disney films when I was a wee lass, I watched Finding Nemo and Toy Story rather that the classic films. I mean, yeah I watched the classics, but I've watched Nemo and Toy Story a ridiculous amount of times, so I grew up preferring Pixar over classic.

Pixar is love, Pixar is life.

With tangled, wreck it ralph, and frozen, they have been extremely successful so far.

 

Some even say frozen is the next lion king, so that's good enough for disney to be in the next golden age.

With movies such as Frozen, Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, and even The Frog Prince coming out and bein reat not only for kids and adults and reaching the classic level I think so.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did. Both my friend and I absolutely adored Frozen, Wreck It Ralph, and Tangled, especially since they can be watched with both an adult and a children audience without growing of boredom. Plus, they all have relatable/likable characters, good entertainment and are all-around interesting.

I tell you, Frozen was sooooo awesome. Way to break that stereotype that all princessess are "ladies who don't do any fighting and rather carry around a parasol and waltz around town until something happens". I think Disney is coming to another Golden Age in their movies. What they really need is a Golden Age on their channel.

Yeah, it makes sense that Disney could be entering a "golden age". They've been having a lot of successful films lately. Frozen, Tangled, Wreck It Raplh, ect. Oh, that's right. Disney owns Marvel, right? So technically The Avengers was a Disney flick as well. Man, Disney really has been making some successful movies lately, haven't they?

Sorry but I don't think so. The so called "Second Renaissance" started and ended with Frozen. Tangled and WIR were good but weren't on par with the 90s. The only two films that were close were The Princess and the Frog and Frozen. And looking at their next few films, I don't see any "Golden Age" or "Renaissance". A superhero film, a "teen space race" film, one about talking zoo animals? Only promising one is "Moana".

 

And I'm pretty sure we're talking about the animation studios, not Pixar, Marvel or any others under Disney motion pictures.

Ahhhh yes, there may be good movies but think about all the fails they've had between those sparks of genius!

 

I'm all about dream works, for a few years they've been popping out good movies like babies out of a cannon, movies people see the adverts to and go 'that looks rubbish' but when they see them it ends up amazing! And with how to train your dragon 2 coming this year I can't wait (if you are looking forward to it then don't watch the trailer they give out one of the main plot twists!!!!) 

 

So they may be getting better ..but please let me remind you of...the movie who must not be named...CARS TWO !!!

I'm gonna be honest......I'm not too happy with what Disney is doing now.   Even Walt himself, must be turning in his grave.  Reason I said that is b/c the failures of John Carter and the Lone Ranger.  Which means one thing......since they bought the Marvel and Star Wars franchise, im literally afraid at what they are going to do.  Especially SW7, if that fails......I will move away from Disney....permanently.
