Sweetie Belle's voice

Silver Letter

Recommended Posts

This happened to Scootaloo last year.  If you check Scoots' voice in season 3 vs season 2, you can see a difference due to the aging of the voice actress.

Eventually they will cease to be fillies and take their place in pony society as young adult mares.

Claire's getting older, so her voice is going to sound different.

Anyways, I only thought Sweetie Belle sounded slightly different in the new episode. At least she still had her signature voice squeaks.

I kinda noticed the change in Flight to the finish but it's much more clear here.

From some interview i watched claire said the voice cracks weren't deliberate, so it's probably the facts she ageing making her voice sound more mature and less squeaky. personally I kind of like the ideas of the voice actors growing along side their characters. I hope if the show's still running in 5 years they become full grown mares.

Yes, I know everypony has already said this, but...  she's going through puberty so her voice is changing.

However, I want to add something to that.

I noticed her voice sounded a little more mature in this episode, but I also noticed that the characters seem to be growing up too, just as their voice actors are.  Has anyone else noticed that Spike's voice is getting slightly deeper?  How about the fact that he's taller and slimmer now than when the show started.

I think Hasbro is actually allowing its characters to age.  As the show's main character (Twilight Sparkle) grows and changes, so will all the other characters along with her.  I actually kind of like this.

You are a ghost, driving a meat-coated skeleton made out of stardust.

What have you got to be afraid of?

She's just aging. Listen to Apple Bloom in Pinkie Apple Pie and you'll notice Michelle sounds older there too. Can't be helped. I'm wondering if their inevitable aging will cause their characters to undergo any changes as well, such as physically aging or gaining their cutie marks.

Wonder how Michelle would feel about us discussing how she's going through puberty.

....

I would be awed to have a topic of my own, but most definitely embarrassed.

An episode with the cmc going through puberty would be pretty hilarious. Teach girls what's gonna happen to them some day.

I can imagine Rarity going to Sweetie's guest room, like, "Sweetie Belle, time for schoo-"

"NOBODY UNDERSTANDS ME."

But I think cutie marks are the anology for pony puberty, so we'll have to keep dreaming.

I totally noticed that! But I kinda brushed it off.

Yeah, the CMC's voices have changed, which is inevitable.  But why does it seem like Sweetie Belle has changed more than the other two?  I'm not sure, I should probably go back and watch some older episodes.  It's not exactly the same, but I'm glad Squeaky Belle still squeaks.  I wonder how much longer she'll be able to do that?

Because MLP:FiM does have a passage of time, having voice actors that grow up isn't necessarily a bad thing.  But MLP seems to be on a sliding timescale and the thus the ponies aren't quite keeping up with Claire, Michelle, and Madeleine.

While all of the actresses for the Cutie Mark Crusaders have been getting older, I do think that Claire Corlett's voice for Sweetie has seen the most noticeable change somehow. A lot of her lines in Flight to the Finish and Twilight Time were lacking in her usual squeaky-ness and she no longer seems to have the highest pitch of the three.

Apple Bloom's voice sounds a little bit more mature as well, but not to the same extent as Sweetie's. Scootaloo's voice actress is a fair bit older than the other two, so there hasn't been as much change in her voice as she started the show when she was a teenager.

It's not just her. That tricky bastard Puberty is playing wicked with the young VAs as well... :(

Okay, DHX, time to start thinking about ending the crusade.

How do you think WE feel?!

I'll never understand why any cartoon would hire real kids if they don't intend to age the character. That's one of the advantages of animation is you can just have a woman do a kids voice and nobody can tell and you can keep them for years and years. Hopefully they do age them in the next 5 years if they keep their current voice actresses.

Yeah but still. Although to be fair it's not as big of a deal for girls as boys, if you have a boy character voiced by a real kid you're completely screwed once he hits puberty. With a girl you're just sort of screwed. :P

I swear all the squeaks in the last episode was the voice director saying "Yeah her voice is deeper now. She can still squeak. Don't worry bronies. You'll get your squeak fix. That won't change."
