technology Lubuntu 13.10 forced Windows 7 into safety only. Help

I am dual booting and was optimizing Ubuntu and decided to get Lubuntu's desktop. Now before I go any further I want to specify what happened before hand.

I have been harassed by some stalker, always giving me the conduit spyware. Easy to remove, registry is clean and malware bytes and avast detected no threats at all.

This started right after Lubuntu was installed into Ubuntu.

I went into disk repair, the good news is I still have Windows 7 and all my data on that partition. The bad an illogical news is that I can only boot Windows 7 into safety mode for no reason. While normal boot will not work. Even used cmd and no luck

BOOTREC /FIXMBR

BOOTREC /FIXBOOT

BOOTREC /REBUILDCD

DISKPART

LIST DISK

SELECT DISK

LIST PARTITIONS

SELECT PARTITION

ACTIVE

EXIT

My Windows 7 partition is fully intact and not affected. I changed my boot options to Windows only in the partition select and even then it will not boot into normal mode.

Is there anything that Lubuntu did to my MBR?

It shouldn't have done anything to the MBR in my experience.

I know you already mentioned running MWB and Avast, but how did you run Avast? From within Windows or by doing a boot-time scan?

Also, did you happen to try repairing Windows from the install disc? If you have it of course.

Your commands also are wrong. It should be bootrec, not just boot (bootrec /fixboot). Also bootrec /rebuildBcd. Maybe just typos.

Just basic questions I know, but I always like to start there.

That's my bad, I'm foggy this morning. Yes I added bootrec / to the cmd. I also had an Avast boot scan and nothing happened. Conduit is not a virus, it's PUP so it's going to dodge Avast. But I have my data on Windows I just can't do anything. I used the repair disc last night too.

When I get home I will try again, I'm a typo guy. I'm at work now though. I just hate having Linux mess up my stuff.

Lol I need an eye exam, I didn't add B in BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD

Don't think I've seen so many self-quotes in one post before. I'm having a huge off-day as well this morning though, so I get it.

Try rebuildbcd when you get home later and report back. That should do it though hopefully since all your data is still there.

Sounds like a GRUB problem: I say re-install the GRUB because the MBR is not recognizing the Window's Partitions considering the data is not lost.

I didn't get a GRUB prompt though. It's only Windows to my awareness. I haven't booted Ubuntu yet. Because partition manager is on Windows.

Didn't even think of that, it could be a GRUB problem, especially if you didn't get a prompt. A quick boot-repair run will take care of that, if not then at least any GRUB issues would be out of the question.

With Windows then, it sounds like an important driver is missing or corrupted. Since you haven't tried booting Ubuntu, you may only be getting half the story since trying to put Lubuntu on seems to be the cause for this problem. It's possible you could have the same problem in you Ubuntu as well, only going into Live mode.  If that is the case, you have a hardware failure caused most likely by malware, but you said you got rid of it or at least none is detected.

Can't be sure what it is until you know what Lubuntu is doing, because it's Lubuntu that started it...

Ok Windows 7 is back, I hated getting this back on. I had to do advanced boot building beyond bootrec commands Windows wouldn't display so I did a system restore and need to remove some viruses again. Also dual booting is gone and I don't know how to enable it

Awesome Chrome will not open or uninstall =) since Windows 95, "fixed your problem, well good here's 10 more to your plate."

Anyone know how to enable dual booting option fro cmd?

I am glad you got Windows back :) Least nothing was lost.

I am not too knowledged on dual booting since all the computers I have/use are extremely old and thus only have 1 OS.

Did you try running boot-repair from a live usb/cd? I don't think it should be anything to do with Windows itself.

I have a win32 live virus that is ruining my internet. This is beyond my level, so Microsoft is fixing it for free. That virus just spontaneously appeared. So when I get it back I need to make my system more secure.

That's no fun. I've been lucky and Avast IS combined with all of MWB tools have worked great for me. Used AVG for a long time before switching to Avast and had no trouble while using it. Hope everything gets sorted out for ya without too much more trouble.
