What do you want to learn about horses?

If you could learn something about horses, what would it be?

I'm going home for the week to visit my parents who have 2 horses, and I was curious if there was something you guys wanted to learn about them, to which I could try to make a video of some sort of you all :)

Just a fun idea!

It sounds semi-cruel, but Ive always wondered if what they said in Roosterteeth was true that when you cover a horse's head with a blanket, it thinks its asleep and lays down awake. Or something like that

Sounds interesting! I've always wondered about that myself. Even though, like you said, it might be a little bit cruel. I would like to know as well if this rumor is true.

I'm interested in seeing if they are like dogs, and understand human emotions like some animals.

I believe they do! Horses are actually used in a lot of therapy programs! I'll try to find some way to capture this, although I wonder if the horses will know if I'm faking it XD

I had never heard of this...so I watched the episode just now XD. This is really interesting, if the horses let me I'll try it. In the summer horses wear fly masks which cover their faces. Not 100% darkness(they can still see) so it's interesting if this is true.

If the horse 'Rio' or 'Johnny' and my mother(since they're her horses lol) are ok with it I'll try it. It also depends if they  have a safe clear place to lay down..that's not in their manure XD (not that they don't roll around  on the ground anyways)

I guess how they'd interact with other animals like dogs or cats. I'd want to see my cat and horse interact.

This I can definitely do! We have a dog and a chicken...but no cats. The dog might be a little difficult since she's very active/hyper outside.

The chicken and horse are good friends though. I often hold her up to Rio's nose and she just sniffs her face. It's very cute.

When I saw my grandmother's horses they were COVERED in flies :(. I want to know if there is anything you can do to the horses to keep flies off of them.

Edit: It seems like you just answered my question. XD.

Still, even with fly masks, it doesn't look like fun for the horses to be covered in flies.

Really?

I never knew about that! That sure is an interesting fact of the day for me, but used in therapies, how specifically?

I believe I can help with this :)

Do you know if they were wearing fly masks, or your grandmother sprays the horses with any repellents at all? This'll help me find the appropriate solution :)

I believe all they had on were fly masks, but they still had flies ALL OVER them.

Well 2 examples off hand.

Horses are great for therapeutic healing and/or helping people with mental disabilities or social disorders, however not every horse is perfect for the job. Most programs require calm, well behaved horses(so a young filly wouldn't be the best candidate).

My grandfather has an old friend that runs a program with his horses on his ranch for soldiers returning from the service with ptsd and other disorders. Working with the horse in different activities like grooming, feeding, saddling, and even riding(depending on the program) can help people cope, overcome, and build confidence.

My mother also works with challenged individuals and on of the programs they do is working with the horses at a farm, In this program they don't ride them but they groom, clean the pens, etc. My mother is currently working towards bringing her group to her stable to work with her horses though :)

I believe all they had on were fly masks, but they still had flies ALL OVER them.

Thanks! I'll inquire with my mother since she's the equestrian expert :)

Do they like berries at all? I've never heard about a horse having any so. Heck what kinds of fruit do they like other than apples?

They loooovvve berries! We have wild blackberries that grow out along a trail. After picking a bunch I went to see if the horse Rio(we only had 1 at the time) wanted any and..I swear...he loved the berries more then a horse loves apples. he could not get enough. They're no longer in season so it'd be hard to show(it's very entertaining haha) I'll have to ask if he they eat other berries ;)

I take riding lessons every week and always have my nose in a horse related book. But I have no idea what they would say if they could talk. An unanswerable question but interesting, nonetheless

I'd like to know what your parents horses look like! \ o wo/

Also, how much do they cost a year, roughly? How much grains do you feed them, if any? I'm looking to get a horse in the next 10 years :3

Hey guys! I recorded a couple videos but haven't gotten a chance to post them yet! I just got back from preparing/selling art at anime boston. Hoping to get the videos and answer new questions after I've recuperated a little more :)
