Do you think Season 4 is over-saturated with too many songs?

Thank you for all of the wonderful responses everyone. It's really interesting to hear all of your opinions. After giving myself a couple of days to think about this topic, I'd like to come to a slightly different conclusion:

I very much miss season 1's and 2's approach to songs. Several really small songs, mostly sung by Pinkie, and then the grand, 3 minute song somewhere. If you think about it, season 1 didn't get it's first full, decent length song until episode 11 or so, and that song was about 3 whole minutes long.

Now in this season, our first song was in episode 5. Still a decent 3 minutes long, but then every song after is around 2 minutes in length, save for a few I might be forgetting.

Basically, I miss when the songs were far inbetween, but long and epic, instead of just a ton of shorter songs.

My opinion is very similar to what @Barbaloot says. Here are a list of songs that have aired so far:

  1. Hearts Strong as Horses
  2. Bats
  3. Generosity
  4. Apples to the Core
  5. Glass of Water
  6.  Pinkie the Party Planner
  7. The Super Duper Party Pony
  8. Pinkie's Lament
  9. The Goof Off
  10. Cheese Confesses
  11. Make a Wish
  12. Music in the Treetops
  13. Find the Music in You

All of these songs are great in their own respective way. Do I think that they compare to songs in earlier seasons? ABSOLUTELY!!! In fact, after listening to these songs a couple of more times, I feel like the music is actually the strongest this season. We have a lot of variety and different influences i.e. Danny Elfman with Bats, Weird Al Polka with The Goof Off, and even Acapella singing with Find the Music in You. I love that the show staff continues to experiment with different styles of music.

I'm going to correct my original statement that a lot of these songs sound "samey". I only felt that way when I thought back to the fact that we had 3 songs back to back to back (episodes 7,8,9).

I guess the only issue I have is in the way that the episode order is set up. If the episodes with songs in them were spaced better, I would enjoy all of the songs a lot more.

Not personally. For me the music is one of the best things about the show and it's only getting better over time. Of course, I grew up in the late 90s and early 00s where music like the show has was in everything, so I may have Nostalgia bias.

That's my feeling in a nutshell.  The first half of the season was too song heavy and I would have preferred a more even distribution.

I don't think this season was over-saturated with songs because, if it was then every episode would have a song included even when the song serves no purpose to the plot. The songs so far have been really good, so it isn't over-saturated.
