Is Cadence the rightful heir to the Crystal Empire?

Word of God is that Cadence and Shining Armor rule the Crystal Empire together.  But is Cadence the proper heir to the throne?  Or is she acting as a Viceroy under Celestia (the Viceroys are cowards)?

 

Evidence that she is the true Crystal Princess:

• Her cutie mark is the Crystal Heart and glows when she comes in contact with it.
• Her magic has the same color as Crystal Pony magic.
• The background pony with the placeholder name "Castle" said she was.  Who'd question his professional opinion?
• Celestia chose specifically to send her to rule the Crystal Empire.  We all know that Celestia understands more than she lets on.

Issues with her being the true Crystal Princess:

• There is no way she should be alive.  King Sombra surely killed all the royal family when he took over.
• The Empire was also sealed away for a thousand years.  There is no way Castle should have been able to recognize Cadence.  Even if she's a distant descendant of the last Crystal Princess, she shouldn't look anything like her.
• She isn't a Crystal Pony.

So what is it?  How can she be the true heir of the empire?

The power of maaaagic. Like, the cutie mark she inherited could have some sort of super-special-awesome connection to the Crystal Kingdom that indicates a direct connection to it's nobility and people. Even if a thousand years passed and she wasn't born a crystal pony, magic makes any contrivance possible.

I always thought that she was the daughter of the Empire's rightful rulers (who were murdered by Sombra) who was taken in by Celestia at a young age (making her Tia's adopted niece)

If you read 'Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart spell', some things are cleared up. Cadence was just a pegasus filly that princess Celestia found and adopted her as her niece. Cadence had the power to spread love. I forgot how she became an alicorn but yeah, she was a pegasus before

It's part of Equestria. The throne is empty since the "rightful" ruler is dead. It belongs to Cadance by conquest!

It's like the old prussian monarchies! She was given a kingdom to rule by her aunty Queen Vic...I mean Princess Celestia! And the comics do clear some things up, but for the most part she is just an orphan no one loved, and then got adopted and made alicorn.

I think so. Celestia had to adopt someone that she knew has potential to rule an empire one day, and decided to give her the resources that she needed.

Well not really trying to defend the villain, but do we really know Smbra killed anyone? For all we know he was next in line to be king and went evil by dark magic. Still I could be wrong.

What does the Castle have to do with anything? It's not a living thing or anything. Besides even if it was, why would it let Sombra rule? He may or not be a descendent, but I don't think it would let him rule.

 

There are other way's besides look to determine if you are a descendent. Like maybe her aura is the same as the other rulers or maybe even DNA. That one I don't think it true, but it could be.

 

If you ask me when Sombra took over some said something about a Alicorn or some pony who truly understands love well come, defeat him, and rule the kingdom in the name of love or something like that.

Cadance began as a Pegasus, but she became an Alicorn after she defeated this monster thing in her adopted home village, and Celestia made her an Alicorn in the same "Bizarre Place" she gave wings to Twilight.

 

I didn't get any details on her heritage being a direct bloodline to the Crystal throne, however. I don't think she needs to have that blueblood anyways. It's all just destiny, I suppose. Twilight certainly wasn't Alicorn blood before.

It doesn't really.  It just says that Cadence was an orphan, so we know nothing of her biological parents.  Her being a Pegasus means nothing because there are Crystal Pegasi and we've seen royalty that aren't Unicorns or Alicorns.

Well, the Crystal Palace was empty when Cadence and Shining Armor moved in, so it's safe to assume that all royal and noble ponies were dead.  King Sombra is the prime suspect in their demise.

Still maybe it was that whole destiny thing I was talking about. Maybe she just matches the what the destiny describes.
