gaming Why so much hate on Final Fantasy XIII?

Why does everyone hate on the FF13 series so much? I personally think it's the best besides FF7.

And that's also one of the reasons; people keep comparing it to FF7 just so they can undermine it. Everyone constantly says that FF13 was the worst series and installments in the entire series, when they actually weren't. I understand why people hated on FF13-2 because of the combat system, because it was kind of broken, but all-in-all the games were excellent. Sure, they were rushed, but they weren't THAT flawed.

Like I said, I think FF13 was the best series and FF7 was the second best, then FF10 was the third best.

What do you think??

I love the 13 series,

People never like it because they think they're all too linear and the combat was too easy and boring. Once you get to the post game in 13 the open world is free for you to explore with a bunch of missions to do. The combat wouldn't be boring if people didn't constantly hit Auto Battle all the time.

13-2's time travel was interesting when you travel to the same level at different time periods. Leveling up monsters was a bit of a pain.

I love Lightning Returns but I'm not a big fan of the "constant doom clock" always in your face, but I get over it. The garment switching is awesome and having more control over Lightning is definitely a plus in my opinion.

Just my 2 cents.

It's extremely ironic that people hate on FFXIII for it's linearity and then praise FFX which is exactly the same. There are a LOT of parallels between the two but FFX is so highly praised it's ridiculous.

But that's just me bitching.

I lurve the XIII games. I haven't played Lightning Returns but XIII-2 was absolutely amazing and I consider it a 100% improvement on the first one except maybe the story.

I've only played FF13, so sme of the grievances might have been fixed in later games, but here are my 2 cents.

-none of the characters are likeable

-there is little to no immersion into the world outside of logs

-no valid character customization/classes outside the predetermined paths

-you are literally forced to run down a corridor the whole game

-the rules that are established are often broken (Fal Cie cant't talk, never mind this guy can)

-most of the pot consist f the heroes wandering around without a plan

-until the very end they actually do exactly what the bad guy wants them to do with NO backup plan, only to be saved by the biggest a**pull imaginable

So yes, I could forgive the somewhat faulty mechanics, but if the characters and story are that atrocious, I#ll have to go with no.

I'm in a huge minority on the first game. I loved everything about the game and actually consider it among one of the best in the series.

Then XIII-2 came along and made everything better.

I love FFXIII. It's easily my favorite Final Fantasy game. This is probably because it was my first.

I enjoyed everything about it. The story, the characters, the world, the music, the enemies, ect.

You can't blame me for liking it if it's my first FF game.

Hope, and Lightning will forever be some of my favorite video game characters.

I've played other FF games before too, like the Dissidia games. I like characters like Cloud but I don't really know them, you know? I do know Lightning though.

See? All of these people love FF13! It's strange who the gaming society works.

It's as if nobody agreed with me.

TBH, I love the cutscenes as well as Lightning, b/c I gotta say Tets, did a fantastic job on her.  To play the game however, I would not dare, b/c it sucks to just stick to a "main character" instead of having a "create a character" and rank up along the way.

I don't see everyone's basis for calling 13 the worst game because the first release of 14 was essentially broken throughout lol I just didn't care for the battle system in 13 at all. But maybe I'm too old school with strict turn based battling. I don't know. It's been so long since I've played 13 that this is the only reason I can remember that I didn't like it.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=47YPs-qwNQU Well, its not like internet famous youtubers influenced a lot of their opinions or anything....But I never liked the modern final fantasy games. 30 minute long cut scenes, angsty girly boy protagonists, and some of the most awkward dialogue I've ever heard outside of the original resident evil.

Me and my brother just absolutely hated FF-XIII, he even gave the following sequels a chance but never got to finishing them. The main reason being that it just didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game. Hell, at times it just felts like your average JRPG with the FF title slapped in there.

Some people just don't like it for various (and understandable) reasons, but I'm sure there are those that jumped on the "hate FF XIII" bandwagon.

I honestly loved the game, long hallways and all. Actually, I didn't have any interest in the little side mission that showed up in the later stages of the game.  I liked XIII-2 as well, though I'm not a fan of the monster collecting; I would have much preferred a standard party. Yep, I like the characters and story as well. I haven't got Lightning Returns yet, but I will eventually.

Funnily enough, everyone that I play Final Fantasy XIV with likes 13, even if it's not their favorite. There was a lot of love for VI, VIII, and X as well (just a side note)

I'm not a fan of JRPG's at all, but I enjoyed both FF13, and FF 13-2. If it was able to do that, then it must of been good.

EDIT:

A lot of the hate I heard about the game is the simplicity in the combat system as a negative, people say it is too easy, with the whole auto attack thing. Another is that people don't seem to like the characters, I for one like them.

Most of my knowledge of FFXIII is based on Lightning in Dissidia an a few gameplay vids and trailers, all I can say is that I'm not really impressed. Granted my thoughts will probably change once I actually play it, but I don't have very high expectations for it, I don't care much for Lightning based on how much I know from her who comes off as an even more boring version of Cloud with boobs(granted basing my opinion on Dissidia probably isn't a good idea), most of the gameplay I've seen isn't very impressive, hearing that it's more linear than FFX makes me nervous to play it, and I don't like the fact that Square made two more sequels to one of the least popular games in the series

Then again I loved FFVIII which was the franchise's old whipping boy so I don't really have a place to speak

I like to compare FFXIII and FFVII because I disliked them both. Personally I loved FFT and FFVI(FFIII in America because reasons) because the story was interesting, the bad guy WON for once, and I really preferred the 2d games (and the isometric 3d) of the younger series to FFVII and on.

I like the FIRST FF XIII.  My problem with the REST of them is the story. It gets over the top even for Final Fantasy game and thats saying something! (P.S. I honestly don't like FFVII. I don't see what everyone liked s about it, other than Sephiroth. And I despise that guy.)

I kind of liked both FF XIII and FF XIII-2, even though the combat controls were hard for me to understand in FF XIII-2, I just like all the action, and who doesn't like all that action packed into a game like that? ^_^

I really don't get it either, it's like the fan base consists of nothing more than a bunch of insatiable savages >_>

I'm a long time FF fan, I've played all the main games in the series barring the MMO's and I love them all (except for 3, that one was made by Satan *_*). I absolutely frigging adored 13 when it first came out and was instantly in love with just about every aspect of it. The real-time fast action gameplay, the absolutely gorgeous world and CGI cut scenes, the diverse and likeable cast each with their own special and standout traits, and the music...oh dear god that beautiful soundtrack ^_^

I honestly don't understand as to why the people who claim they are the 'true FF fans' couldn't simply accept the change and like the game for what it was, same goes for 13-2 cause that was pretty badass as well. I personally like the look of the direction the series is heading in, 15 looks like it has so much potential and I'm very excited for it and I think any of these 'true fans' really ought to be too so as to support the company they claim to love :D

Also FF 10 is the best, Tidus' nightmare laugh ftw :3
