Personally, I like characters that are controversial and out there and defy what you'd expect from the world of the game they're in. Two characters that have always stood out for me, in the only game series I've ever replayed more than once, are HK-47 and Kreia from KOTOR. Like. Two of the most well designed characters ever, imo, one in a LOL as fuck way and the other in a whoa thats intense way.

The Nameless One from Planescape: Torment. He's easily one of the best protagonists of all time and also has the cool factor...if you want him too. You could make him out to be quite the asshole if you wanted.

Hell, he received a massive character development, from an immature young man who brawled, drank excessively, and had sneak sex with Christina, the death of his father and brothers forced him to change to a wise, disciplined and mature man. Nothing was left of that teen we were introduced with.

 

Solid/Old Snake

I admit, I know him mostly out of MGS4, but I liked the character already, being a clone with accelerated aging, he was a man who hardly showed emotions, but inside, is a very authentic character who you can't help but love and care

 

Naked Snake/Big Boss

A very cliched military villain who start as you superior who later betrays you, defeated only to return trying to conquer the world, that's it............ THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNN comes Snake Eater. We got a more light hearthed version of Solid, with many funny dialogues with his MC, but after being forced to kill his mentor, The Boss, he started questioning  authority. What I liked about this guy is that he always believed in conflict, but he always respected others who believed otherwise, like Paz (voiced by Twilight Sparkle btw  ). Oh, and let's not forget how he made peace with Solid Snake in his surprise appearance at the end of MGS4

 

Gabriel Belmont/Dracula

Oh man, I really like this guy (duh). He a total badass, going trough all sorts of shit no other Belmont faced, to save his wife. But all ended in tragedy for him, and I feel Identified with him because tragedy can happen to all of us, even if we overcome tough obstacles. And as Dracula, he started his campaign of terror out of fate, but later is revealed he don't relish it, he did it out of someone worse taking his place, namely Captain Picard, and Lucius Malfoy . I also like badass characters who show emotions, like the aforementioned Snakes. He also made me cry........ alot  , I'll miss you Gabriel

Anyways, my real answer would be either Fox or Falco from Star Fox. I always grew up with Star Fox, but them 2 were always really cool. Especially Falco, though there was times Falco could be an ass (Excuse my profanity). But I mean, just the way those 2 were.

 

I would also choose Samus. I mean, she's a pretty cool female protagonist!!

I'm probably one of the only 5 people in existence who think X is cooler than Zero, particularly the Command Mission version of X is the coolest Megaman character ever

 

 

Best Final Fantasy Character ever. Seriously, he should've been VIII's main character
