Let's be frank here, guys; every single one of us uses YouTube. I always have a tab up for YouTube with video playing, whether I'm watching it or if it's in the background while I'm doing other things. I'm always using YouTube! It's one of the biggest media sources ever!

But do I think Yahoo can compete with something like YouTube?

In all honesty... I have no clue.

There're other video sharing sites like DailyMotion, but none of these sites have nearly the amount of content or publicity as YouTube does. YouTube is backed by Google and Facebook, and thousands upon thousands of videos are posted there everyday. If Yahoo want's to even hold a candle to YouTube, they'll need to have a trick or two up their sleeve.

What do you guys think? Would you check it out?

I don't know if Yahoo could complete with Youtube due to all of the publicity and the huge amount of people that join Youtube on a daily basis. For Yahoo to attempt and compete with Youtube, they would need something up their sleeves for this to work.

I won't doubt Yahoo, but let's see how this goes.

Once people get comfortable with something, myself included, it takes a lot to make them change. It's definitely worth checking out but I don't think it will ever truly compete with YouTube.

If Yahoo! is smart, their big gambit will be fewer restrictions and general assholery than what YouTube currently has. And, let's be real: this is Yahoo!. They're already a big-name corporation (y'know, in perspective) so the media will already pick up on this and run with it. They can make it work -- probably not beat out YouTube, but definitely be a competitor.

Also, anyone else notice the irony that this video is hosted on YouTube?  :umad:

Well if Yahoo is going to compete with YouTube, they better get some sponsors or else it will just fall into the same category as Dailymotion. Also the only criticism YouTube gets lodged at is it's layout changes and Google plus so Yahoo would have to use that to its advantage.

I really hope this does well, though. I've had enough of YouTube's assholery. The internet needs another video-sharing website that they can escape to, but still maintain a relatively large audience.

Exactly this........Yahoo doesn't have the full potential to reach Youtube's level when it comes to publicity.

If the Yahoo site doesn't have the copyright bullsh*t that Youtube has, I'll gladly accept it.

When something gets too big, it tends to loose its quality... as we've seen with youtube. I'm personally going to support this yahoo thingy, a bit of competition would be great. Youtube would feel forced to please its customers.

I guess it's great then, let's just hope it works lol.

I think there's a place in the market for it-as long as they market it as something other than 'The alternative to Youtube'. The can't go toe to toe with youtube-at least not yet. People will check it out and-who knows, if they like the format they might stick around.

I hope they do this well. To take a small chunk out of youtube's user base at all would be a major success. They need to attract the right balance of content providers and users which isn't an easy task. You really can't have one without the other; content providers won't feel compelled to make videos if there isn't anyone watching and the users will leave if there's no one worth watching. Youtube has an unfair advantage of being well-established and there's already a balance between the providers and users.

Once again though, good luck Yahoo. I seriously hope you guys have a plan to make this successful.

Yahoo trying to make a site to compete with youtube.... let me respond with a youtube vid

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

@@caramba2654,

Oh, it'll most likely have it. A company has to protect their IP, no matter how or where it's used.
