The Fate of Magic.

A week has passed since the wall between world crumbled: sundered into pieces when its guardian was savagely slain. The realm of life known as Equestria is under a threat like none other: without this ancient barrier, the realm of magic is flooding into the cities and wilderness. Strange creatures roam the land as unnatural occurrences take place in the very land and air itself. Ponies cower and hide without the means to defend themselves against the twisted abominations which this melding of world has created.

With the royal sisters missing, Canterlot has fallen to military rule: factions of militia and mercenaries struggle to defend the streets while the royal guard defend what refugees they can within the royal quarter. It is chaos, and very few have even the slightest idea of what has caused this catastrophe.

Two bands of adventurers had recently departed to the crystal kingdom, intending to find answers and a way to restore balance... though after distasteful struck they never arrived.

Unable to rest easy, Captain Redwave of the Dawn Dreamer issues a call to arms: one last desperate all-or-nothing mission to restore the land to its natural order.

Welcome, to the grand finale of 'Beyond These Walls'.

Picking up several days after the abrupt ending of Chapter Two, this chapter will follow chronologically and be directly related to the events in the previous two chapters. Since it includes a new objective, new information and (hopefully) a few new ponies, previous knowledge of events will not be required - though would certainly not be useless to have.

All required (or useful) knowledge can be found below:

Setting.

The quest will take place in a tainted version of Equestria - the same as the one you know and love, but recently struck with a previously unknown amount if magical energy. The sky is filled with a writhing mass of deep purples and blues which blot out the light of the sun. Instead, strange lights of pure light litter the land and sky - hovering in the air and casting an otherworldly light on the land around them, causing a perpetual state of twilight. Temperatures are plummeting - snow and ice forming even in areas which are normally warm and temperate.

Creatures.

Eldritch creatures formed of pure magic now spark the land - some neutral to ponies but most hostile to some degree, and all of which possess varying levels of intelligence and cunning. These creatures can manipulate the very magic in the air to perform unnatural feats far beyond and Equestrian life.

What is more, however, are the tainted creatures of Equestria. Poisoned by exposure to the raw magical energy, these creatures suffer decaying mental capacity and magical mutation: becoming a threat to both themselves and those around them.

Arcana.

Arcana is the realm of magic: the source of all magical power, which unicorns have wielded by drawing on if through the barrier for as long as ponies have existed. A twisted landscape of blues and purples, the concentration of raw magical power is so much that simply being there would be highly poisonous to ponies and other creatures of Life. Likewise, the creatures of this realm are similarly effected adversely by the life of Equestria.

As well as animalistic creatures, Arcana is the home to intelligent, immortal creatures known as Etherial: selfish, uncaring and raised in a world completely unlike Equestria, these creatures formed of raw magic survive and grow by absorbing the energy of weaker creatures. Highly dangerous and wit little regard for ponies or the realm of life, they generally care only about their own survival.

Rules.

* Rule 0 - The DM's word is final.
* Standard Rules - No godmodding or power playing: you are a pony, not a super hero. Good roleplaying will be rewarded, not a powerful character.
* Extended Canon Era - If all goes well, this RP will expand on canon without ever contradicting it. I'd like to keep things in the spirit of the canon Equestria as such: no guns, cyborgs, Timelords, Alicorns, earth ponies with barely-justified magical powers...
* Literature - I ask for basic spelling and grammar - everyone makes mistakes but 'diz nO funn 2 reed'. Furthermore, this won't be an advanced RP but please try to write as much above the 200 character minimum whenever possible. Please write in third person.
* Dedication - Don't sign up if you have no intention of sticking around - that kills RP's. Notify us if you are going to be away for any significant amount of time: don't just leave somebodies character hanging.

Unfortunately, I need to be much more selective about players than I have been previously to prevent overburdening myself. Existing characters from chapters one and two will naturally have a better chance of acceptance, but I am hoping to see a couple of new applicants too.

Okay, I've run through a few confirmed acceptances on the character listing above. Still awaiting some links that I don't have.

 

Just a note that, put simply, all of my characters will be on the same quest: I won't be running 2 / 3 roleplays in one here simply because its too difficult to keep on top of posting.

 

As such, anyone not with 'the group' will for the most part be left to their own devices.

 

There will be opportunity for anyone who wasn't with the group at the end of chapter two (Canterlot characters and so on) to join them, but I won't be controlling anything where the group isn't (other than possibly a little brief exposition) while the group isn't there.

Anyone in Canterlot (as I believe Tera was?) would make sense joining up with Redwave - who has rather hastily scattered flyers about asking for help 'fixing this fine mess of a world'.

 

'Joining' by either accident or design - two armed ponies loitering around the front gates of the city would be likely to draw attention of the guard.I would assume.
