Actually, I expect Scilight to have this sort of personality quirk, just less ridiculous. Her tools and equipment may very well be her friends. Imagine if she is a little like Pinkemenia in a sense. Instead of a bag of flour and lint, she has a beaker and microscope she names.

Scientist Twilight Sparkle created EG Spike the Dog using "Make Your Own Dog 1.0". So when FIM Spike meets EG Spike, EG Spike only talks to FIM Spike voiced by Dave Willis while pointing at FIM Spike saying "Tonight. You."

 

Then there is no further contact between those two because FIM Spike is creeped out...
