It was a nice episode. I entirely forgot about the time when I was watching. I enjoyed the character interactions, the return of Neighsay and Flim and Flam, and I especially liked seeing Starswirl again. I didn't like him much in the season 7 finale, but during this episode I warmed up to his character. The ending was predictable (In that regard I liked Viva Las Pegasus more as it had more of an open "feel-good" ending for Flim and Flam) but I did like Twilight offering to let them continue with their university if they stopped charging for her lessons.

They have to. At least this way they can somewhat control him. His bond with Fluttershy gives them an ally in times of crisis. If they want to turn him into stone Discord will likely be prepared this time. Although it more feels the Mane 6 (except for Fluttershy/Pinkie) mostly tolerates him. They kind of pushed befriending Discord on to Fluttershy while it should have been a team effort.

It was a good episode, but for some reason I didn't really like the portrayal of Twilight and RD in this one. The Student 6 were great though. When the season started I never thought I would like them this much. They work perfectly together and I can't help but find every one of them endearing in their own way.

You're right, looking at my post I realize I've worded it wrong. At some point Starlight said (after Spike saying something was off with Discord's reaction) "Don't worry, Spike. Discord and I are old 'save Equestria buddies' he'll be fine." I was trying to say that Starlight ignored Spike's warning and assumed because Discord and her had saved Equestria before Discord would be fine. Spike noticed something was wrong because he hangs out with him. (The Mane 6 would have noticed it as well if they had been there) but Starlight didn't know Discord well enough to pick up the warning signs.

In the beginning I was surprised that Discord could manipulate the Friendship map, but now I agree with the people who believe Discord put an illusion on it and didn't control the map itself. We know the map isn't untouchable (Starlight casting a timetravel spell on it/Trixie teleporting the map away) but it would make sense that a being of chaos and disharmony wouldn't be able to control something connected to harmony itself. Ironically, Discord tricking the Mane 6 to go on a mission did resolve a friendship problem in the end. (Discord feeling left out and somewhat bitter because the Mane 6 involve Starlight in everything while they both had the same evil past, and Starlight taking Discord for granted and thinking she knows everything about him)

Fired? $5000 fine? No offense, but doesn't that go too far? Like I said, this is a difference in opinions. In my opinion they've been doing well so far. What were bad episodes for you were at least 7/10 episodes for me. The only episodes I agree with are "Fake it until you make it" and "A non-complete clause." It's no excuse for Discord's behavior, but to be fair, Starlight didn't really help when she dismissed Discord at the start of the episode. I understand she doesn't know him well but he made it clear (in his own way) he felt left out. Of course he should have asked Starlight, but asking something isn't Discord's way of doing things. Spike knew something was off with Discord's reaction.

Yeah, personally I think she's capable of showing the same kind of gentleness and kindness like Fluttershy, but it may take a few layers to get there. She strikes me more as someone who first tries to support and encourage her friends, then hangs out with them and tries to cheer them up, if nothing of that works and it really looks like there's no other way to go I can see RD putting down her mask and showing a kind of gentleness or kindness like Fluttershy. Like just sitting next to someone, listening, not even needing to say something but just being there for a friend.

After re-watching the episode I can understand better where people are coming from regarding Discord's behavior. But even with that in mind I still enjoyed the episode. It was cleverly written and had a lot of things happening, I liked the Spike and Starlight dialogue and the students had some great moments as well. (I'm kind of surprised but at this point I'm really liking them) Yeah, Discord was out of line, yet a part of me enjoys seeing this more "evil" and unrestrained side of him. It isn't fun if Discord gets along with everyone. IMHO there should always be some kind of friction between Discord and some of the other characters. Everyone except for Fluttershy and Pinkie always looks nervous and uncertain when Discord makes an appearance. He's like that guy who you know is your friend but you rather not have a visit from.

Mixed feelings about this episode. Overall, the dialogue was cleverly written and, ignoring a certain character, the episode was entertaining to watch. I find it funny how I used to say I wanted Discord to be more like his "evil" self again, and now he's finally doing that I couldn't really enjoy it because of him putting the students in danger. Starlight blasting him away really felt so satisfying. The main problem was that Discord felt too mean-spirited. Despite that I did like how Spike defended him throughout the episode and knew that Starlight using magic against him would only make things worse. (Although honestly Spike's "Discord's is just being Discord" felt really inadequate after he send a Bug Bear after the students) I did like how it showed us two new things about magic. If magic is powerful enough (And Starlight definitely had reached the limits of her patience) Discord can be banished from a place. I was shocked when it was revealed Discord send the Mane 6 away on a false friendship mission. Apparently he can manipulate the Friendship map and the marks of the Mane 6. (Of course he could also have placed an illusion on the map instead)

Teaser for Second Half of Season 8 at SDCC!
JH24 replied to PacificGreen's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Oh boy, Neighsay really is going all out. Apparently it's not enough to close Twilight's school, but he now sees Twilight's role as princess of friendship as a threat to Equestria itself. He's probably going to invoke some law that can prove Twilight has betrayed ponykind by colluding with other species. Sometimes the biggest threats really do come from within. -

This was a weird episode. The entire concept felt kind of forced and unnecessary. Lots of drawn out scenes too. What I did like about the episode was there were a lot of scenes for the Mane 6 and a lot of interactions. For some reason I found it funny how Rainbow Dash was the one to help Pinkie with baking cupcakes to try and cheer her up. That was just adorable.

I liked the episode. Maybe not the most exciting but overall it was cleverly written. Starlight's scene as counselor actually made me laugh. Looking back, I'm so glad that they've made Starlight more of a separate character from the Mane 6. I love the Mane 6, but Starlight is so different from them that it is actually refreshing.
