  1. One thing isn't entirely clear to me. Would the magic have disappeared forever? Because if so, would Equestria not become almost uninhabitable without sun or moon, without Earthponies to work the land or Pegasi to manage the weather? It would fit Cozy's narrow perspective if she never even thought about that. Somehow on the first watch I assumed Cozy was going to use all the magic for herself as she becomes the Empress of friendship, making all ponies dependent on her for their survival. But it feels that was not the case.
  2. This wonderfully worded summary describes perfectly for me why I like this finale, despite some of the weaker scenes. Cozy's portrayal and doubling down on her ideals and goals were perfect. She had no magical power yet she was so close in becoming the ruler of Equestria. And because everyone would have been dependent for their survival on Cozy's new powers she would be able to rule unopposed. I also liked how the Tree of Harmony came back into this. Both the Student 6 and Cozy had opposite views of friendship and in the end Cozy's views lost. If the Student 6 hadn't become "one" during "What lies beneath" the Tree of Harmony might not have been able to help.
  3. I'm glad you like the entire season, because it means there's even more of this series for you to enjoy. Season 3 had some real gems. Except for "Too many Pinkie Pies" which is one of the few episodes I dislike in the series this season had a lot of good stuff IMO.
  4. Couldn't resist watching the finale back then. I'm looking forward to watch it again. It's not perfect, and some parts were disappointing. But for me personally the scenes with were well done. I'm still surprised
  5. For the previous seasons I didn't mind as much. But for the final one I would like the experience to be more special.
  6. With all due respect, did Discord really trick the elements though? Didn't he just put an illusion on the table? Even their flashing cutie marks were different from usual.
  7. I look forward to see it with subs, but it seems like a great finale.
  8. This has the potential to be one of the best finales in the series so far.
  9. I find this reaction a bit harsh. It's not that unreasonable to assume Twilight gets less sleep over time. She's combining her princess duties with that of running a school.
  10. When Fluttershy passes away I hope Discord will be emotionally mature enough. If he is, then he will mourn her passing and seek out new friendships (Or he may already have) One thing I'm sure Fluttershy would love to see is DIscord being able to move on and make new friends on his own. It would give her peace of mind.
  11. Kudos to Michael Vogel for that dialogue. There's so much being said in and inbetween the lines. At first it feels like she's being positive, but each word just increases the negative feelings.
  12. I can't really see him as a teacher, mostly because he's still learning himself. I see him more as a supporting teacher, like using his magic to provide real-life demonstrations or to visualize lesson material. He could also make the school a bit more fun by adding some chaos into the mix. He could probably do a lot in gym classes by making obstacle courses or creating new games. He could teach together with Fluttershy about their friendship, and how about he was given a second chance. How Fluttershy believed in him, how Twilight forgave him when he was captured by Tirek, etc.
  13. I liked this episode. Only part I wasn't as fond off was that exaggerated stunt near the end. It was a cliché way to resolve the story but I can look past that because the scenes with Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash afterwards were perfect. I really liked the development for both Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash throughout the episode. Spitfire's scene was unexpected but I couldn't help but laugh. The voice actor must have had a lot of fun doing that.
  14. If there will be an ultimate final villain in season 9 then I can imagine multiple storylines revolving about different groups. A storyline with the Mane 6, one with the Pillars, one possibly with the Student 6, one with the princesses and with the leaders of other kingdoms, all developing at the same time and merging together in the end where all species are united for one desperate and final showdown.
  15. Because Celestia believes that he could be an ally in times of crisis. (And as long as Fluttershy is there, he definitely will be) But I think the most important reason is that Celestia wanted to break the cycle. Every thousand years or so Discord will break free from his stone prison, and one day there will be a generation of ponies who will fail in turning Discord back into stone, and then the world will be at the mercy of an unreformed Lord of Chaos.
  16. Agreed, Neighsay may be only a part of the problem. It would be fitting if the EEA changes their policy and make education available to everyone. It would be a total defeat of Neighsay and his convictions. He deserves to be fired after abusing his power in "Friendship University." === On the other hand, I can't shake the feeling there might be something in having Neighsay reformed. The message about racism and prejudice could be more powerful if Neighsay himself admits he was wrong. It would be kind of ironic if the Student 6 - those same "creatures" he kept degrading and insulting - are the ones to make him realize he had been wrong all this time.
  17. After watching Friendship University and re-watching School Daze I found myself surprised when I realized I'd become more interested in Neighsay's character. So far he comes across as one-dimensional. His convictions are wrong, but there's a lot of potential to convey a powerful message about racism and prejudice. He's probably one of the most hated characters in the fandom (with good reason) but what do you hope to see with his character? How would you want things to end for him? Does he deserve a shot at redemption? Or would the darkest prison still be too good for him? On a sidenote, I love Maurice LaMarche's rol as Neighsay. He really brings the character to life. (Added spoiler tag just to be safe)
  18. I do see the parallels with the Student 6 and the Mane 6. And although I really like their characters I can't imagine they will replace the Mane 6 cast for season 9. That seems like too much of a risk. I can imagine the Student 6 taking over the role of the Mane 6 eventually though. It would be an interesting note to end it on. Six species now represent the Elements of Harmony instead of only ponies. It would be such a cool twist if the Elements of Harmony (I always thought only ponies could wield them) can be wielded by everyone and are no longer restricted to ponykind.
  19. I think the Royal Sisters are very powerful. I mean, just look at the magic Twilight had when they transferred their magic into her. They possess a huge amount of magical power. The sisters don't appear as strong because they seem to be holding back. (It was even hinted with Celestia) However, on a sidenote, Celestia confirmed in the season 4 finale that even the sisters were not strong enough to stop Tirek as long as Discord was protecting him. So it does seem there are limits to the effectiveness of raw magical power. I like to think unicorn/alicorn magic is powerful, but is bound by following the arcane rules of magic. While Discord's magic is chaotic and makes its own rules when it's needed. Being a strong magic user won't help you if your opponent can prevent you from using it in some way. (Tirek absorbing Discord's powers, Chrysalis' anti-magic throne, the princesses captured by the Changelings, Tempest taking out three princesses on her own, etc)
  20. I kind of liked that remark from Neighsay. He does have a point that if other creatures learn friendship than there's a good chance it will unite them internally. But he automatically assumes the worst and that they will attack Equestria as a unified front. (Although some like Dragons and Changelings have shown hostility in the past) Look at the Griffins, they've completely fallen into decline. But if they ever united and rebuild their home they could be a formidable competitor. Same goes for the Dragons, and especially the Changelings. Even now they're reformed I can imagine most of ponykind still harbors a distrust towards them. It really comes down to ideology. Twilight believes that teaching friendship will make other creatures friends or allies of Equestria, while Neighsay believes all these creatures will make friends with each other and then ally themselves against Equestria.
  21. I can't help but find it funny no one seems to have any respect for Twilight as a princess. That stunt Flim and Flam pulled on Twilight... just wow.
  22. After re-watching this episode I realized one thing I also like about this is the inclusion of Neighsay. No matter how much I tried, I can't bring myself to fully dislike him. His convictions are wrong but also recognizable as we see those same thoughts in parts of our societies. I can't help but wonder if Neighsay is just a bad pony, if someone is manipulating him or if he's more like Starlight and something happened in his past that made him like this. I have no idea which way they're going with this but I'm kinda hoping they'll develop Neighsay's character further.
  23. I didn't like this episode except for the last part. The idea was good, but the execution was forced. They were dismissive of each other's interests and couldn't compromise at all. The last scenes of the episode were well done though. To be honest, I would have liked it more if they had resolved their friendship on their own, instead of needing outside help. Surely they become friends again on their own if they were really friends. Isn't that what true friendship is? Overcoming obstacles together because in the end, you both want to be close to the other and be his/her friend?
  24. The last few years I've become so jaded about humanity that I feel the Equestrians should be teaching us. If it would come up in conversation I would tell about the mistakes we humans have made, the damage we have done to our own world and to be careful of those who try to divide a society. If I would be in Equestria, I would definitely try to apply to Twilight's friendship school, and not only to learn on how to make friends and be a good friend, but also to learn about their world, cultures and how to contribute to their society.
