@@Commissar Alexer, where in the world did you pull "brobump" from? If you paid attention, it says "hoof-bump." I was the one that made the suggestion since it is show-accurate and was a plausible solution for them. Honestly, I'd prefer to change it out of accuracy, rather than gender, but it doesn't hurt their situation. I was simply supplying something to help them. There IS a gender-neutral term already...it's called "fan." But that's boring. Plus, most of the girls I've seen comment have preferred "brony" anyway.

haha! Typical. When I lived in England a few years ago, every time someone would explain the number of nationalities, regions, or anything like them, they all had their own version of it! The English got mad if I called them British (because, apparently, only those under their rule were "Brits," as in the Irish, Welsh, and Scots). But if I asked the Scots, Irish, or Welsh, they would say the term "Brit" only applied to the other nationalities. The only time I saw an Englishman consider himself a "Brit" was during Wimbledon, when all of the English athletes had lost, and the only player left was a Welsh dude! Disclaimer: I know the Irish are separate from the Northern Irish, and the term "British" is typically only used for the nations currently under British rule, but logically, the term still applies! Saying you're British AND Irish is like me saying my ancestry is Eastern European AND Hungarian! Or that I myself am North American AND American! Redundancy I say!

Sure! That muffin + your use of "spice it up" + early-morning hunger has me thinking about a spice cake or streussel. Ugh! But anyway, I'll work on it when I get back from class. I already have an idea to use more of her cutie mark bubbles as toppings on the muffin! Right now, it reminds me of a lighter-brown Hostess cupcake! WHICH...I'm now craving as well! Thanks a lot @! haha Thanks once more, @, which one did you like best? That one was a PAIN to detail! -_- When I put the original into my editor, everything had tiny little colors, and with all that surface area around her wings, it took forever! haha. Once I got that done, coloring it the different ways was just fun! -
That statement is redundant...well, at least, it WAS, until the southern ~88% of Ireland finally claimed independence from England's rule...Actually, now that I remember better, it is STILL redundant! Ireland is part of the British Isles, regardless of English rule or not! haha

Ok, I made these from a picture by an artist named "UP1TER" on deviantArt. original: http://up1ter.deviantart.com/art/Fluttershy-284331990 -
A blue Red Velvet cake she made the other week. Sadly, I didn't get any.

Boo-yah for originality! Woot! Woot! Honestly, when was this forum created? "Brohoof" is definitely entrenched into its culture so I don't really expect too much response to go against it, but it's a thought anyway! It was definitely made by the fandom! haha I'm just glad it's not "hoof boop" like what ghost said they use on World of Equestria (I had to check it out too because it just sounds so funny!) What HASN'T been made by this fandom? That's part of the reason I finally gave in and started watching the show! Every time I did a Google search for something, there seemed to be some version of it or parody or alteration that involved a ponified version!! Now I see the appeal! haha

"Hoof boop" just sounds ridiculous to me! haha I haven't had too much interaction with other bronies yet, but of course, even in the threads I vaguely mentioned above, there were plenty of females that said they prefer to be called "bronies" as well. I actually didn't ever hear the term "pegasister" until maybe 2 weeks ago in another thread! I just always assumed all fans were called "Bronies." I find that I can be really nit-picky about things. I mean, I'm not pro-feminist or even anti-feminist, but I just think it could be a nice little change to make the forum more show-accurate. However, it was the female-based threads that brought these little things to my attention! I LOVE being accurate. If someone misquotes a movie, show, or song etc, my brain goes all OCD about it! I am very detail-oriented, so it's nice to have others such as the two of you (so far) to bring in more balance and various perspectives!

Ahahaha! Sad day! I love seeing things like that though! I've always applauded my sister for being able to succeed with her re-creations of things she finds on Pinterest where others fall short, and also for her pure creativity that she uses to design and make these! Sadly, those other ducks made me think of this:

Most awkward place you've fallen asleep at
PE Brony replied to ~Sugar Sprinkles~'s topic in General Discussion
At the movies, on a double date: Back in high school, I went to a theme park all day with some friends, got back to a friend's house, watched a movie, talked, played some Halo, and then stayed up the rest of the night and all the next day as well. Just before I finally decided to go to sleep, my sister called me asking if I would be a date for a girl I knew so that we could double and go to one of the Harry Potter movies that had just been released. I ended up falling asleep at the movie with the girl poking me to wake up. (Thankfully, she already knew my story so she understood and didn't hold a grudge against me for it!) -
Not necessarily Owlowiscious, but owls nonetheless! Two different owl cakes and some owl cupcakes. The large, single-owl cake was made by my sister about 2 years ago. The second, two-level cake was made last year.

So I have seen a couple threads recently about female bronies/pegasisters feeling dominated by all the bro-ification of all fandom words. A number of them seem to prefer "brony" as a title for ALL who enjoy the show, but some seem to resent the creation of the word "Pegasister." Personally, I like "Brony" and "Pegasis." ANYWAY, my suggestion is this: Perhaps a simple change in the threads' use of the term, "Brohoof" could dissuade some of these feelings of alienation. In the show itself, the ponies have always referred to it as a "Hoof-Bump." I prefer "hoof-bump" myself, but am curious to see what everypony thinks! Pinkie Pie & Scootaloo "hoof-bump" during Pinkie's "Smile, Smile, Smile" song. Rainbow Dash acknowledges Lightning Dust's gesture as a "hoof-bump." Fluttershy & Rainbow Dash hoof-bump (RD says, "bump," not "hoof").

Of course. As a world-wide population, I personally feel that people are becoming less religious. Also, as NLR stated, the younger populace is definitely becoming more and more atheistic, so it does make sense that a large portion of this fandom would consider themselves atheists as well, considering the average ages of the brony world. In my adventures, many people I have met claim to belong to such-and-such a religion, but have never participated in anything with said religion since their parents had them initiated (christening, baptism, or any other method). Not to say they didn't have some sort of belief, but I often got the feeling that they were actually atheists, but were claiming a religion out of family tradition, rather than their own beliefs. I think if people were honest, and a worldwide poll was taken, that 5-10% would be higher.

Well, those are very valuable lessons to have learned from him. But I've learned more of how I want to be from my mother! I'm a mama's boy for sure! haha I don't hide it completely, because I have told one of my sisters and her three little girls, and I have an old roommate that is a brony as well (he's the reason I became one). But here at college, I haven't told anyone yet. There's a couple people I feel I could tell that would accept it without issues. I'll see how things work out!

Thanks for the support! I've even talked with my mom about how the only really helpful things I've learned from my father over the last 20 years have been: I was hanging out with my little nieces that like MLP and they wanted to watch a show, so we turned on the tv and part of one of the Tinker Bell movies was on. It was hysterical! I also fell in love with Fawn. (She's funny, cute, and is voiced by America Ferrera, who also voices Astrid in my favorite movie ever, of all time--How to Train Your Dragon)!

I've given up telling my dad about any of my interests or trying to please him. Considering he has told me how unhappy he is with how my life has turned out I can only imagine the overwhelming disappointment if I were to tell him that I like MLP! However, if and when he does find out, I'll just throw back in his face that I'm happy with my life (unlike him) and that he has no room to talk because he has taken his nieces to watch Tinker Bell movies (which I've also seen some of them and they're funny too). My mom doesn't know, but my mom is just the opposite of my dad. She supports me in my decisions and so I don't think I'm necessarily scared for her to know I'm a brony, but it just hasn't come up yet. (I've only considered myself a brony for about 3 months now).
-
Well-assessed and well-spoken! Though I am a brony myself, I also have never been to a convention of any kind, though Comic Con and E3 and now Bronycon have interested me. It is definitely easier to voice opinions online. The males are obviously more vocal about it, even on here, but what you said about girls being more willing to share these kinds of opinions in-person I think is spot-on.
-
In the show, I've noticed the mane 6 call it a hoof-bump. Of course the guys obsessed with How I Met Your Mother had to make every reference to themselves start with or involve the word "bro!" Perhaps a change to "Hoof-bump" would be more neutral and more series-accurate? Also, I've only seen this once, but I've seen one person shorten "pegasister" to simply "pegasis." It keeps the integrity of the word, while shortening it by a syllable.

Well, of course Atheism is going to stand out. When you compare people who are or aren't religious, but split up the religious votes, the non-religious will be grouped together, even though their level or type of non-religion could actually still vary person to person, much like religion does. 284 Atheists and 134 Agnostics is still 45.2% of the current 924 votes--meaning that 54.8% are religious in some form. It is staggering though. If the poll was simply "Religious / Non-Religious" it would show that the membership in this forum is pretty even. According to the King James Version, the man who betrayed Jesus was named Judas. I've never heard of this Luciferism until yesterday. My church believes that Lucifer / Satan is one of our elder brothers and a brother to Christ, but lost his status as a result of pride, seeking to take the glory of our Father in Heaven for himself. I think your reasoning behind the number of atheists here is spot on as well.
-
Agreed. I never heard "Pegasister" until I started on these forums. I like it. Even though "Brony" has the male-connotation, it can and is easily treated like the phrase "guys." I can walk into a mixed-gender group and say, "Hey, guys!" and no one's offended. Why not with Brony? I've even known groups of all girls to refer to each other as "guys." And I've seen plenty of girls on here that prefer "brony" over "pegasister."
-
When I first became a brony a few months ago, I watched a video of a panel (I think from Bronycon). The majority of the people I could see were males. I think it's sad that the girls often feel unappreciated in this fandom. The males definitely get all of the media coverage because it is so "unnatural" for us to like a show aimed for girls. I really enjoy seeing female perspectives. IRL, I only have three little nieces, their mother, and one old roommate that I get to talk to about MLP. I've enjoyed reading through your thoughts here! As for Tumblr, I usually only go there to find gifs...

@@Ezynell, I'm LDS (no, not on LSD, though it is easily mixed up!) Most people call us "Mormons" because we use both the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon as scripture. Though many protestant sects don't seem to agree, we are Christians. I often wish our church's official name was not so long because it sure is a mouthful to say, "I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." It's not shorter in any other language either! Yes, I was raised by my parents who were also "Mormon," but as I've grown older, I have come to feel that my church offers the most satisfactory answers and the most understandable ones as well; though when explaining them to people who do not already understand our beliefs, they can be quite foreign to them because they obviously have been raised or decided on other belief systems (or the lack of). I have also found that my understanding of my religion allows me to be open to both religious AND scientific explanations on all the major topics. I can reconcile the Bible's record of God's creation of the Earth with scientific theory and evidence that the Earth took A LOT more time than 6,000 years! haha (That one's always made me laugh!) My second favorite belief system I would say is Agnosticism. My understanding of true agnosticism is that those who fall under it's umbrella feel uncertain about whether or not their is a deity, but are open to the possibility, given the right evidences, proofs, or personal experiences. In all honesty, Atheism has always made me laugh, and has always been the most confusing thing to me. Here's one anecdote as to why: Boy that was a long response to "why" if I do say so myself! Feel free to PM me with any questions you have had about "Mormonism." I'll be more than happy to answer them, as long as they are not intentionally insulting or derogatory. I love learning about other belief systems and am always up for a good, healthy discussion! I can't see the dark, but I know it's there whenever I turn off the lights!

It can be a slight annoyance if you're trying to make a quick quip, but it does do a lot to stop individuals from spamming a thread with a billion incessant replies. It makes you elaborate more than a couple short words. In today's texting society, it's a miracle that people can actually still use more than 20 characters at a time! This forum is helping defeat the disease that texting has brought upon our communication skills!
