I second using LMMS, although the stock sounds aren't to die for, you can always get samples and stuff that sound way better. One thing I noticed with LMMS is that they've worked on their appearance, and it now looks more professional than before. Anyway.... back to the topic.
So, yes. If you want to start making EDM and stuff, start off with LMMS (that's what I did). If you want to go to FL Studio, then by all means do so. It'll be an easy transition from LMMS to FL.
I have a thread with free plugins, SFZ, and sample packs going on here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/100934-plugins-sfz-samples-etc/#entry2726663
you should definitely check it out and download some of the software. Since you're saying EDM, definitely install T-Force Alpha Plus. It's the best free plugin I've found for any type of Electronic music.
If you need help kickstarting LMMS and using it, let me know. I'm sure @Flutterpride would be happy to help as well. If you're going straight into FL, again, I'm sure either or I would be happy to help.
Good Luck! My music is below, so if you want to hear what you can do with free stuff, check it out ^^
