  1. "I imagine it took a lot of hardworking, dedicated ponies to put of this together, my dear," he answered. "And I'm certainly glad that I wasn't the one that had to drag it up here." He cracked a smile and nudged her gently with his flank. He was truly lucky to have a mare like her in his life, and that was the reason why he had to finish telling her his thoughts. Once they were settled, Shining restarted the conversation where it had left off. "Cadence..." The rising moon set the moment perfectly, evoking the romantic imagery he had wanted his words to express. At least now it might be easier to convey exactly what was on his mind; although, part of him still cursed the Shadow Guard for interrupting his chivalrous moment. He placed one of his hooves on her nearest hind leg and peered into her purple eyes. "I want you to lean on me more." His tone emerged much calmer than the inner turmoil that had generated the thought. He sounded princely, and the grin that spread the corners of his lips indicated that it had actually taken him by surprise.
  2. I actually like the advanced element. Makes things a bit more meaningful, IMO. In fact, we could probably develop things a bit slower if we wanted to -- really take in a scene and just let it roll. Creamy beige and all that. Either way... I don't think we'll need a new thread, Neon. Also, I edited my latest entry to include a Wick update.
  3. ((Canonically is obviously no, not yet. In terms of this RP... who knows? lol)) The feel of Cadence's coat made all of his concerns seem irrelevant. He touched his horn to hers when she called him Shine and slowly brushed his muzzle against her fur. "There was some fuss with our resident prankster," he replied, "but given the commotion, I think Princess Luna will be handling it this time." He stepped forward so she could rest her head over his shoulder and smiled. "I'm not all that concerned with Discord right now," he continued quietly. "I have a much more important matter do deal with, namely making sure that my Cadence knows that all of her efforts are appreciated." He chuckled. "Remember what happened the last time we ran ourselves ragged? I had to throw you at the haunting spirit of a demented king." The humor left Armor's voice and his ears splayed a bit; love and duty once again clashed within his mind and heart, and this time, he feared he would not be able to quell the rift. "Cadence..." He let her name linger in the air for a few seconds. "I know that there are things that you -- and only you -- can do. I also know how dedicated you are to the Crystal Empire. This is coming from your husband, not the Captain of the Guard; you can always lean on me more. I want you to..." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wick sat on one of the castle balconies and looked to the moon. He heard Luna absolutely treating Discord, but really wanted no further part in it. He did not particularly want dinner either. Food consumption was a social activity, and lately, that represented the last thing he wanted to do. He breathed heavily and picked out some stars. "What am I doing here?" he muttered while noticing their twinkle. "I should be up there, doing what I was born to do." He lowered his head and stared at his cutie mark - his denied destiny - for what felt like hours.
  4. Shining sat by the door as Cadence exited. She'd been in there for hours, and the stallion had a visible look of concern plastered to his face. "Hey..." he began quietly, "do you need anything?" He gave the princess a fleeting smile and pushed himself up from the wall. "I know how hard it is for you to piece them back together." Watching her emerge exhausted provided one of the few moments when he wished he had powers that extended beyond the scope of shielding. He did not possess the depth of magic that Cadence or Twilie had; he was their armor - and he was certainly good at that job - but that was not all that useful when a pony had to reconstruct broken crystal. He was walking the fine line between duty and love. The former yelled at him to respect Cadence's responsibilities as a royal, but the latter, well, was an issue of pride. He was her prince! He was supposed to be there for her in every possible way, but all he could do was catch her after the fall. The notion devoured his sense of honor and left the pony with a sunken countenance.
  5. Greetings and salutations ponies, and welcome to the 5th episode of Random Ramblings of a Ponified Wing. My last week was filled with quite a bit of stress -- minus of course one phenomenal event, which I will get to later. The gist of it is that I will be moving back to Chicagoland to start a new post at a national lab. This, obviously, requires moving, logistics, lots of driving... essentially all the shit that ponies bucking hate. In four days, I will leave a life behind, most of my friends, a great home, and the way things have been for the last 5 years. The time has come. I drove down from Minneapolis, putting up with shitty, cell-phone babbling drivers for over 400 miles, and stalked out places to live for a few days. After a struggle, I signed the lease on a place yesterday morning and drove back up (once again BUCKING drivers) to a home in dire need of some moving assistance. It's stressful, emotional, and quite honestly downright annoying. Last Saturday, however, was a lot of fun. I attended the Feld0 fundraiser and met my new favorite artist - Dawn Rider. Man, can his mad Australian vocals really come through on love ballads. You are an inspiration, my friend. Hehehehe... X3 worth every Celestia-damned penny. Props to Marco as well. At some points, I thought he was going to have an aneurysm, but he really pulled through to help out a friend. That shit is a class act. I was going to rant more, but meh, it's such a nice day that I stopped giving a damn. You know what's coming. Digging down deep... Get the hell off my text file, you Celestia-blessed hippies!
  6. Well, there are plenty of pony-loving 'ponies' around here to meet. Pretty much a place here for everyone. It's amazing how it all works.
  7. Welcome to the herd, mah man. It sucked you in like it did so many others. Hope you enjoy your stay on the forum. There are a lot of cool people on here.
  8. Reactions were mixed -- as they often are. My girlfriend was absolutely thrilled that I liked the show. Her response was along the lines of... "And this is why I love you." Some friends don't get it, but I have a reputation for being a little eccentric. Most of my friends use the "It's Wing" excuse and just move on with their lives. Either way, the friends I've made on the forums far outweigh whatever negative shit exists in reality.
  9. If the elements fail, you can always rustle up a mob and get some pitchforks. Those always work well. Don't forget the torches either.
  10. I absolutely love Daft Punk. The guitar solo in Aerodynamic is probably my favorite piece of music to ever exist. Although, I am also a big fan of Veridis Quo. Very much looking forward to the new album.
  11. Wick turned to face the towering, reformed former ruler of Equestria. It wasn't like he had been born yesterday. The stallion knew of Discord, who he had been, and what he was capable of doing. "Yes, I'm Wick," he replied somewhat flatly before reluctantly extending his hoof. He knew better; deep down, he really knew better, but it still took him by surprise when the shock jolted his frame. "Buck Luna!" he wailed, pulling his foreleg away quickly. His black and dark grey mane practically stood on end as he shook out his over-volted limb. What do they see in this guy? he thought as he grimaced from the 'blow'. It was more a strike to his pride than anything else. He had been through a lot and just did not need the extra stress. It was enough to cope with the feeling of guilt associated with burdening the princess with his presence. She had allowed him to stay after it was clear that he wouldn't recover quickly. "Honestly Discord," he quipped, "I have plenty of chaos in my life without you inserting your shenanigans into it. Why don't you go frolic with Celestia or whatever it is you normally do to pass the time?" He scowled at the dreconequus and let out an overly drawn sigh. Wick figured the beast wouldn't listen. Discord was effectively the god of disorder, while he was a pegasus who could not even muster up the courage to open his wings any more.
  12. That's a really tough question to answer because good is really quite subjective. I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect writer, although in my imagination I am one , so the question is what 'good' are you looking for? Do you want grammatical perfection? What is your preference for fanfic content? These are useful things to know.
  13. Hehehe, well you did a good job, so just take it likes a good little pony. It will be okay! I promise. Also, what I said is true. Unless you go and TrollFactorFive me now, everything you post has an established level of quality.
  14. Awesome panda sauce. Thanks for doing it Mr. Jaguar. It looks great. No complaints from me; I'm glad you were able to use it to poke the style debate. =3 Keep up the great work.
  15. I viewed it, and I liked what I saw. There really isn't a whole lot to complain about at this point. It looks like you addressed others' concerns and made corrections. Wootles.
  16. Wootles! Good luck. Hopefully, all will be good and it will be accepted and all of that glory time panda action force. If worse comes to worse, there are other things that can be poked and prodded with the plot. X3 Keep us posted.
  17. Yay for the backstory. Now things are rounded out and complete, and this OC can go on to live a happy and fulfilling life. woot
  18. I get where Vicke's coming from. Given the state of affairs today, tossing a lot of money into something extraneous can be a little touchy. But I look at this in several ways. First, is everything that Zoop laid out in his post up there. BTW.. way to carry Smile Smile Smile last night... just beautiful. The next point is more of a personal story. When I was Feld0's age, I had people online who looked out for me. When a new game came out, and I didn't have enough money to pick up the next expansion, suddenly one would show up at my door. If we had a team convention, someone was always there to make sure I got to it. I'm in a much better place than I was 10 years ago. Could I pay his plane ticket outright? Hell no, but can I chip in a few bucks, make Dawn Rider sing, and see some people have a good time? You bet your sweet plot I can. It's my turn in the generational loop to help out, so I do what I can.
  19. Oooo, what's the back story and stuffs? I can always dig a well thought out OC with a nice, creamy story to go along with it. Good work, keep it up!
  20. Well, let's be honest here. The Wonderbolts are show ponies, and that's about it -- at least in the context of the show. They are effectively on the level of Trixie, except they are revered instead of ... well.... disliked. In my imagination, I considered the possibility that there is a combat arm of the Wonderbolts that just hasn't been shown. In fact, this was the basis for my OC, but that doesn't really have a place in the show. Really, they are a lot like Shining Armor is to Twilight Sparkle: the means for a main character to ascend, a plot device. Beyond that, we're in fan land.
