  1. not so ridiculous really, for a fantasy world. there's a whole series of sci-fi/fantasy books called Discword that take place on an enormous flat world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld I haven't read the series myself, though I should get around to it some time. I've heard good things.
  2. nice counterpoint there. unusual or not, counterpoint is a valuable framework for any style of music. i'd be interested in checking out your score for the E-minor fugue.
  3. so the hub, what sort of tier of cable package is it on down there? could probably just google this, but i'm throwing it out there.
  4. youtube. generally i don't watch tv shows on tv at all - just wait untill it's out on dvd to purchase a season. gotten pretty good at guessing which shows i'll enjoy over the years, even without watching any of them.
  5. looking good dude. nice anti-aliasing type effects with the lines in the face. there's some ambiguity with the positioning of her front left leg. could be raised to look more in line with the rear-left leg.
  6. it could be seen as a form of guitar worship, and drum and bass for that matter. virtuosity is a very appealing ideal. it should be noted that metal is a very popular style of music, despite what many inside, and outside of it's interest have to say on the matter.
  7. a major chord is a major chord, am I right? whatever else is going on in the music is happening to give it uniqueness. differentiation. deeper and deeper levels of quantisation that are meant to appeal to smaller and smaller groups of people. music that is easily appealing to anyone, and music that is particularly, and deeply, appealing to a very small number of people. strip away the vocals, the texturing, the syncopation, and the effects - there are more similarities than differences. many people recognise this, and these same people often don't enjoy certain textural adjustments to what would otherwise be enjoyable music. Personally, i'm not very fond of vocals in music, whatever the genre. no accounting for taste right?
  8. Havarti is my favorite. I like to cut it up into small cubes and put it in beef soup. What's that in there, a chunk of a potatoe? no, it's delicious half melted cheese !
  9. both of those sound very useful at this point. head over to the forum and drop an application. Right now, I think we could use some more people with some familiarity with Unity3D, some more visual artists, and some people to help brainstorm game mechanics. Though not nessesarilly all three in one
  10. i've definitely experienced this. i sleep on my side, my tendancy, or urge is to rotate my body to the other side - I naturally do this about every 30 minutes when im sleeping. a sign for me when i'm experiencing a lucid, or at least much more vivid dream, is the self directed power to hover. It's oddly specific, and frequent. (within the dream) if I tense my inner chest muscles, gravity stops pulling me. Though it feels less like i'm tensing the muscles themselves and more like there's some bizzare organ that's been added to my body. An anti gravity organ. Telekinesis would be a good description for sure. I wish I had that organ, or brain region. >:|
  11. some thoughts, dreams are experienced through interupted REM sleep. I've found it possible to wake up, have a passing awareness of being awake, and return to sleep. Often with some varied continuation, or feeling of continuity. genereally this only happens when i've been drinking alchohol the previous day as it alters my sleep cycle. A dream only makes sense when you are forced unexpectedly into a waking state, the lingering neuron firing patterns are then interpreted by the awaken mind. It's almost like a suspended note in music, over a key change. My feeling is that any sense of lucidity in a dream could only happen when the boundary between being awake and being asleep is rapidly moving back and forth. My feeling is that a dream isn't experienced when you are sleeping, it is only at the moment you are awake that otherwise bizzare neuron patterns are forced into interperetation. Next time you wake up from a dream, try closing your eyes again. Fixate your attention on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-eye_hallucination untill you fall back to sleep. Allow your eyes to follow the shapes. It's vital that when you fall back to sleep you can enter a REM state as quickly as possible.
  12. i've got a variety of different concept art posted on our forum if you'd like to check that out. if you are interested in collaborating with music making for this project, i can help with that well. currently though i am mainly in the visual side of things.
  13. if you drew the avatar that you're currently using, then you're doing fine. otherwise, here's somthing to have a look at. rounded edges will help greatly.
  14. 7 finger method. no pinkies, and only one thumb - why would anyone being using both thumbs anyways? I do use my pinkies when I need to use shift, ctrl, alt, tab, caps, enter, ect.. I took a typing class in highschool, which was pretty useful in hindsight - though I still don't use my pinkies at all. In all likelyhood because I'm never typing anything that requires great speed - still formulating what i'm even trying to say as i'm typing up a sentence, so great speed isn't of any use really. type sentence. pause and think. type next sentence. the only use I can see for a full 9 finger method is in taking dictation from someone speaking. not somthing that I expect most people are going to encounter in 90% of keyboard usage.
  15. highly recomend trying this small program out. You can set it up with your keyboard, and play around with the settings. If you're not familiar with the features and setting on this device, they're important to have a good handle on. http://home.no/gunnare/index.htm And maybe listening to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NW9sX1LGXA
  16. I've experienced this myself. I've sat with crossed legs since I was a child - i'm nearly 30 now. When I was young I definitely heard many "don't sit like that, it's the way girls sit" related comments. Not many really, but it did seem odd to me. Had some people ask me once If my genitals were missing or somthing, as if it was physically impossible to sit that way for a man somehow. Now that was a weird one. If it's comfortable for you to sit that way, that's all that matters. For the record, I was sitting with my legs crossed even as I read the topic's title.
  17. I believe at this point we're planning on using unity3d rather than rpgmaker. (will be a 2d game) this point might still be in disscussion, but it should be usable on many platforms with this approach.
  18. a good way to quickly familiarize yourself with chords/scales and how they relate together (as well as to quickly memorize positions of notes in E minor) is to play through this sequence here. It's not a song, or pony related, but it's simple and covers a wide territory of uses, in all genres. These are 7th chords, played without the 5th degree if you are curious. |--------------------------------------------------------------------------- |--------------------------------------------------------------------------- |-----0----2----4----5----7----9--------11-------12------------------- |---0----2----4----5----7----9------10--------12---------------------- |---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |-0----2----3----5----7----8----10--------12--------------------------
  19. Won't speculate. All I can say is, it would be great to see a theatrical presentation. Would definitely be at a midnight release.
  20. sounds like an interesting play. bit peculiar though. definitely like the idea of the stars and other celestial bodies all rotating around the pony-planet. like the ring of pony-planet too. rolls of the tongue well.
  21. who's to say that it is a planet at all? would make as much sense for it to be a flat surface with edges. whichever the case, I imagine there to be many other continents populated with ponies.
  22. If I have one hope for the future, it's that religion is wiped off of the planet, much like slavery has been in our recent past. It was standard practice across most of the world for probably tens of thousands of years. Large scale cultural shifts are possible, but they do take time. I don't mean to compare the two in content nessesarily, but rather in the grip they hold on a cultures psyche. A standard that seems self evidently valid may turn out to be total garbage with the passage of time. There's still reason to be optimistic about the matter. I understand that my bias is probably showing, so just pretend he's still wrapped up in his bag.
  23. friend of mine was interested in this sort of stuff when I was in school. it's part alarmism, part messiah complex. there's value in the idea of a civilization taking a more active role in planning it's existence beyond the near future. Particularly planning beyond the lifetime of it's citizenry. To me this seems outside the scope of governmental mandate, particularly democraticaly inclined nations. where's that oxymoronic benevolent dictator at?
  24. I haven't read through this whole thread yet, I will in a moment though. I just hope i'm not way off base with this post. I'd like to throw out the idea of using this program here for development: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ being free, all members of the team working on the project can share files and various builds between onepony and another. espescially fantastic if you want to make use of high resolution graphics/animation without being as confined as with rpg maker. food for thought.
