So I got home from System of a Down and Deftones. READ MY STORY.

Deftones came on a bit early. Like, a couple minutes. This wasn't bad at all, because I was looking forward to them, and that meant they'd have more time to play. The opened with Needles and Pins, a pretty good song. But the first bad thing I noticed was that the guitar tone was HORRIBLE. It was way louder than every other instrument, and drowned out a lot of things. Plus, the bass tone on the guitar was pretty high, which dampened the high notes a bit. I couldn't hear bass guitar at all, except for parts of songs where the guitar cut out for the bass. The drum mics sounded like the guitar, too loud and full of bass. This combination of sounds made the whole thing pretty rumbling, loud, and muddy. I could barely hear Chino over all of this, which kind of sucked, especially on songs like 7 Words. Still, though, it was cool to see Deftones. I didn't really do any stuff you'd do at a metal show (as in headbanging and shit) because I just wanted to see them play. The performance of Change (In the House of Flies) was good, I must admit. The only instances where Carpenter's guitar really sounded nice was during My Own Summer and Diamond Eyes.

I had high expectations for System of a Down, because they were the headliners. They did not disappoint.

Serj's voice sounded great that night, and on some songs, he even brought back the screaming! :D They opened with Prison Song, which was nice, because a huge curtain blocked the stage, and with strobe lights, shadows of the band flashed onto the screen. For the intro of Prison Song, that was pretty cool. They went straight into BYOB then Needles, I think, so their set was already pretty high energy. There was much headbanging during this, because how can you not? Those are all pretty fast songs. The set kind of slowed down with Lonely Day and other ballads, so I just took a seat, and rested my neck and all. Now after a few "ballad" type songs, the background of the band became the trademark hand of their first album. Then, they played Suite Pee, War, and Sugar in a row. So of course, I stood up and got into it again. The remainder of the show was the popular songs, and it wasn't too bad.

Getting home was awful, though. The concert ended at 11:00, and when my dad and I were trying to drive out of the lot, we didn't actually leave Camden and get onto a highway until 12:00. Mostly because of all the pesky police pointlessly directing traffic. So to that, fuck the police.

As a whole, the show wasn't bad. I enjoyed it.

Did you expect it to be a flawless getaway when you have a band like SOAD and/or Deftones playing? I digress. I guess this means SOAD isn't that bad live then. Also, I'm tired and really fucking grumpy.

The solo is fucking sweet in this song.

I kind of feel like I'm leaning toward one side of the fence I'm on with Volumes. I like the instrumentation, but the vocals can distract from that a bit.

I have a $40 gift card for a record store. What wax would YOU recommend, metal thread? In other news, Emmure appeared in my Contortionist radio on Spotify (ew).

Make sure you pick albums that you love the WHOLE WAY THROUGH, not just a few songs, cause unless you have precision aiming with dropping the needle, you cant skip songs.

On that note, pick something fast and fun. I'm not sure what kind of metal you are into, but if you like any thrashy/punkish metal, Venom's first 4 albums sound killer on wax!

Without that stuff, we wouldn't have most of the metal bands we have today.

Like Meshuggah.

One of my favorite mathcore bands, PsyOpus, covered this song. It was hilarious.

I've only just found out about this band. I'm now addicted to listening to them.

Also this. Not that brilliant, but I love it.

Anyone know any bass heavy technical death metal (or djent) bands? I feel like the bass is lost in that genre a lot. Especially since I really like the tone off LD. 50, where the bass is tearing shit up.

I remember listening to Dimmu and Cradle way back when but I never heavily got into them. I've been listening to a lot of Melodic Death lately with Blackguard, Insomnium, Mors Principium Est, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, and Scar Symmetry. I actually got to see Insomnium in concert not so long ago, and they were amazing.
