Is Applebloom destined to earn an apple cutie mark?

The biggest problem I see with cutie marks is that it slows the speed with which their society can react to innovation and change.

If your cutie mark is in making slide rules, and calculators come around, you are going to be a sad pony as you will not be able to continue doing what your talent is for.

This could be much worse if say there were a means found that made farm work require 1/5th as many ponies or tremendously increased efficiency in weather control.

I would go far enough to say that most likely Celestia is stifling such advancements, having them introduced slowly so as not to displace large numbers of ponies.

Forgot about Banjo Butt! He also doesn't have an apple Cutie Mark. Also some Horse Shoe Pony. I don't think they are named.

Will Applebloom have an apple related cutie mark? I'd say no, unless it's a zap apple something-or-other. She seems to enjoy farming and construction, but that may be a result of growing up with it. There may be no passion there at all. Like Pinkie Pie, who presumably is a decent rock-farmer, her cutie mark may be nothing at all like her family's marks.

I think she'll end up with a potion mark (which could be a jar of zap apple jam...). To cross cultures for a moment: potion-making is "[an] subtle science and exact art..." -Severus Snape. The zap apples, Zecora, cutie-pox, and lessons with Twilight all seem to point to an underlying passion and understanding, IMO

of course, havent you watched Friendship is Witchcraft?

in all seriousness,i highly doubt, or at least hope not, that her cutie mark is apple-related.

it would show dem kids that you dont have to do what your parents did if you just find your own thing in which you are good at.

I'm uncertain.

While it would make sense, no pony is destined to get a cutie mark based on their heritage or name, as strange and ironic as that sounds. For all we know, Sweetie Belle could get an apple-related cutie mark, and Apple Bloom could get the Skyrim logo.

That won't actually happen, but we really don't know what Apple Bloom's special talent will be. ^^

Why potion making? Sure Applebloom learn to make a potion with Twilight and has met up with Zecora a few times but I don't feel there is enough to suggest or offer this as her Special Talent. That and it is mostly agreed that Show Stoppers made it clear what the Special Talent of each Cutie Mark Crusader would be.

Perhaps Applebloom could find a way of using potion making but I don't feel it would correlate with her cutie mark or Special Talent.

It's funny that "Show Stoppers" is a determining factor for Applebloom's cutie mark. That is really the only time she has shown any interest in construction, isn't it? In "Pinkie Apple Pie," for example, AB doesn't suggest fixing or repairing the cart when it breaks. Seems like a missed opportunity to point her towards construction. E.g.:

AB: "Can't we just fix it?"

Big Mac: "Nope."

Applejack: "I'm sorry sweetie. There's no way..."

Granny Smith: "No, but that gives me an idea! We could use the parts and this sap to build a raft." (Back to story)

Also, the cutie-pox episode doesn't happen until after "Show Stoppers," and that's AB's first hands-on experience with potions. After creating (and being infected with) a long-dead disease, the first thing she does after being cured is to go try again. Later she shows aptitude for creating the finicky zap apple jam... "I think this is the best zap apple jam I've tasted yet" -Scootaloo. Sweetie Bell and Granny Smith add on as well. Then AB promptly misses the talent, as in "Show Stoppers." Which adheres to the Cutie Mark Crusaders aptitude for not quite understanding cutie marks.

I'm struggling to think of any other times that AB has shown interest in construction... The only thing I've got is the "Apple Family Reunion," where all the Apples help rebuild the barn. Any examples would be appreciated.

Potion making is viable. Remember, the potion lessons were focused on what again? That connects that Cutie Mark to the family business.

It may involve something that is an Apple type of thing maybe, but I don't think it'll actually be Apple picking or something to do with Sweet Apple Acres directly. I mean she already tried that sometime in S1(forget what episode, but I think it's season 1) with trying to sell apples with Applejack.

I think it'll be something to do with construction, but still be some kind of Apple related something.

Who knows though, we may never even know for sure.

Personal opinion. I don't think the CMC will get their cutie marks. I think there will be a sudden plot twist. Or maybe 2 out of 3 CMC get true cutie marks and they'll base the episode "Don't judge others for something you have and they don't"

The potion AB was trying to make was make a magic plant growing formula. They tested it on an apple seedling

@@Zygen

The episode was "Call of the Cutie."

Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to tag properly :P

Oh ok, thank you.

And I believe that is correct. It worked for me atleast if your curious. Unless that isn't what you were going for doing.

They may not get their cutie marks, or it may be something they get in their last episode or something. I feel like that will probably be the case.

I suppose one or two getting them getting a cutie mark could also happen, but both will be in the end of the show if it ever happens.

But it's entirely possible in my mind that none of the CMC will get their cutie marks within the duration of the show. Simply because it's basically a huge chunk of their character arc.

If Applebloom is learning alchemy stuff from Zecora, maybe Applebloom's  talent will be creating a Zap Apple Cider XD with a cutiemark to reflect it :P

I feel like it would be an awesome growth/serious episode if she didn't get her cutie mark as something apple related. Say she does get something potions/alchemy related. She feels she isnt a true apple anymore. Applejack, her friends, and her family all try to show her and tell her that whatever her destiny will be, she will always be an apple/friend/sister.

Yeah, that would probably be a great episode. And if they did something like that with Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle too in which all the episodes actually take place parellel to each other, like what happened in the episode where Spike was pet sitting and the Mane Six went to the Crystal episode with the other CMC, it could be really good. I still think she'll get an apple cutie mark myself though, because her name is APPLE Bloom and she already has a lot of apple farming experience.

When two ponies have offspring, that cutie mark will likely not match at least one parent. If cutie marks are based on your special ability then that explains why they tend to run in families. You are likely to follow the family business but it is no guarantee.

Let's look at this destiny thang from a different angle:  Pinkie's parents.  I'm pretty sure none of that family had anything CLOSE to a balloon cutie mark.

But best pony Pinkamena felt miserable at the rock farm.  I'm sure that her assessment of "just rocks" was a bit overstated.  [Though Maud seems quiet and unable to actually smile]

Were a pony destined to follow in the family business.  Pinkie might have had a rock-candy theme.

Even within these themes there seems to be a wide latitude for comprehension of what the cutie mark symbolizes.  Cheese Sandwich saw his sign as a representation of breaking out of the box to throw a great party.  Applejack's apples don't have to do with apples per se merely the running of Apple Acre's farms.

While not totally canon, in MMC Rainbow sees herself as more of an animal control [that's why I've got silly animals on my butt, no?].  Rarity sees the rainbow & cloud as a style thing, not a racing thing.

Should this be true, it would be interesting to see somepony have to deal with an actual inability to fulfill their original understanding of a cutie mark and to progress towards a new understanding of themselves.
