Why is AJ so popular?

I think perhaps the reason AppleJack is so popular is because she is such a down to earth pony. No pun intended. She cares for her family and friends, and the entire of ponyville with out being asked. Sure she may be stubborn at times such as in the episode " Apple Buck Season" but I believe it is reasons such as those that make Apple Jack such a popular character.

Look, Applejack isn't my most favorite pony, but she isn't my least. (It's Pinkie Pie, sorry Pinkie Pie fans. Don't kill me.) She certainly doesn't seem popular from what I've seen. But I dunno. I am trying to not be so addicted to MLP atm. (Until season 5 comes out anyways.) I think she is a great character, could've had something to aspire to be. But nope. (That would make Applejack a much better character, wouldn't it...) Oh look, I am rambling again. Somepony help me stahp.

I like Applejack (Rarity you annoy me), but she isn't my favorite. (flutters <3 ).

I think most people don't like her as their favorite because she is the most down to earth and calm. She doesn't have all that many problems, nothing really bothers her, and she doesn't have anything to aspire to. Twilight tries to be a princess, rainbow tries to be a wonderbolt, rarity tries to become famous, fluttershy and pinkie pie have the cute/silly factor going for them. Applejack tries to take care of her family and sell apples. By cartoon standards that is pretty boring.

With season 4 I felt they went overboard with her but she is in a good spot now I feel.

I admire Applejack more than any other character in the show. She has a very good sense of responsibility, she's energetic and happily does whatever should be done, and she lives consistently with her principles. Plenty of people in her position would be bitter, worn down by all the weight on their shoulders but she keeps going and puts her own positive spin on it all. Whether as a coworker, a sister, a friend, I'd love to have somebody like AJ in my life. And even if she makes mistakes like everyone else, whether by being too hard on herself, by sticking to her guns a little too much, anything like that, she recovers and grows. Applejack's a very strong person, because she's had to be to get where she is. 

 

Add in a fantastic sense of humor, a caring heart, a mountain of cute and endearing moments, and it's hardly a wonder that she's one of the most loved characters.

Ehh. Applejack is okay. I don't really hate her, but I have a hard time liking her. Not only do I find her personality rather boring and uninteresting, but her stubborness really annoys me. Especially in "Applebuck Season" and "Bats!". Man, was she unbearable in those episodes.

I'll also add that she really doesn't stand out much to me.

 

At least she has more personality than Trash Sentry and she has a few good moments. I'll give her that.

I always figured Applejack would have a fault of some bias which rubs the others. She had a problem with magic being used by Twilight and Rainbow Dash using her wings. This could have gone on to normal everyday life like having a view of not using magic for small tasks.

 

Twilight Sparkle uses her magic to pull out a book. Then Applejack suggests Twilight should climb up there and get it instead of using magic or Spike.

I personally think Applejack is one of the best ponies ever.  She totally deserves more credit, and gets hardly anything at all.

 

It's really and truely sad.  She was called a "background pony".  What the hay?! :okiedokielokie:

She's not selfish or conceited, some people hate her because of the same reason they hate Rarity, they both are self centered, but how i've said too many times, that does not make them selfish, there's a way big difference, and yes, sometimes she's kinda obnoxious, but that's part of her personality and she learns to control it.  All the characters have flaws.

 

Now, about AJ, a lot of people find her boring because she's like the most "perfect" of the mane 6, but she's actually interesting without any personality disorder as the rest of the mane 6, and without her the show would lose the balance that she brings, and some humor and great episodes.

Yeah, sometimes she may be a little bit obnoxious or, how would you say it...says she is better sometimes? (sure I'll say that) But that's just her! And she hardly ever is like that anyways. Nothing to hate about.

 

Its just the same for anypony! Like Fluttershy.  We don't hate her because she is always "Quiet or Shy".  What's the difference?

I've been racking my brains trying to figure out where this fits in with any of what you're talking about

 

Anyway, AJ seems to generally be at the bottom of the popularity polls. For shame, too - she's 2nd best mane 6 and 3rd best pony in my eyes. She's a pretty kickass pony who deserves more love from the fandom. Unfortunately, I think most of the fandom look at how cute the pony is or how fast she flies as opposed to how well they are written.

A portion of the Applejack stories deals with the farm. Honestly, I'm tired of the farm stories and the crisis that they'll lose their farm.

 

The series hasn't shown Applejack doing rodeo. Applejack hasn't done a country theme song.

 

Applejack is just too good for her role as a country girl farm hand compared to other fictional characters in similar role. She has nothing of interest that stands out compared to the other Mane 5 and winds up being overshadowed. Applejack can be leader material, Twilight and Rainbow Dash are also. Applejack works with animals, so does Fluttershy. Applejack is physically great, Rainbow Dash can also match her. Applejack's element is honesty, the other Mane 5 deal with honesty in their own way. Applejack can be stubborn and prideful, the other Mane 5 minus Fluttershy are also capable of doing it. The Mane 6 are always generally helping others.

Applejack is anything but popular. And that's kind of sad. I mean, she's not my favorite, but out of all the mane 6, I probably relate to her the most. And no, she's not boring, or stereotypical. She's a well written, rounded character. I think when it comes to AJ, the writers probably have a hard time making unique stories about her. And as such a lot of the fandom don't like her, or even hate her. She's the voice of reason in the group,and really keeps them strung together. Also, yeah, her accent is adorable, and one thing I like about her. 

But yeah, AJ deserves more love.
