This could actually work quite well, provided you avoid the cardinal sin of being boring in these videos.  Remember that most people watch these things first and foremost to be entertained and also because they find it interesting.  You will require writing that can grab and maintain the attention of the audience.  If you can make well written, well executed and entertaining pieces, you will do fine no matter what perspective you choose to use.

So I've been sort of wanting to start up a Pony analysis channel on YouTube, but I've been unsure what to do. (Also, I'm in school and have a job and thus will probably never get around to it, at least not for a while.) But if I ever do such a thing, since I am a Christian, I'm thinking to try to take a look at the show from an explicitly Christian perspective; i.e., compare and contrast the ideals in the show with the ideals in the Bible. Of course, if no one actually watched, it'd be wasted effort, so my question is this:

How many of you would subscribe or watch such videos, whether out of curiosity or because you're also Christians or for any other reason? Also, any thoughts on how to make such a channel work well, or what to avoid in such a channel?

Edit: Just to clarify, comparing and contrasting MLP and the Bible wouldn't be the only thing I did, just the primary focus. There would also be a fair helping of good old fashioned giving-my-opinion-of-episodes and analysis of the show in and of itself.

Yes actually I would like to see that. It'd be interesting to see how Christians other than Myself view the show.

In all honesty too, I've been tempted to try to make a "Christian Bronies React" video or two...Since I do sort of like the idea behind the React vids that ACRacebest does.

Do as you wish, but I wouldn't watch it..maybe I would...though 99% sure I wouldn't...

I'm just not into religion and that sort of analysis comparison...not to mention I don't really like analysis videos all that much... :maud:

I think it's an original idea. It would be refreshing to see a different view point in the already over-crowed analysis video scene. I'd watch it.

As long as the vid/analysis series itself was of good quality I would whole heatedly support such a proposal. Heck, if my schedule doesn't get too full in the coming months I wouldn't mind contributing in some way ^_^ ; assuming it isn't video editing :derp: .

I know there's a place you walked
Where love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees.
I spit out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now
After such a love as this?

It is an interesting concept. I myself may not be way too interested in it, considering I'm a Unitarian Universalist and not very religious. But I might give it a try. But I may stop watching them if I'm not sold with the concept.

I'm an atheist, but it sounds like an interesting concept.

Like I said in the poll, if you managed to make it entertaining then I'd probably watch it.

I would LOVE to see this!  I am a Christian, and I'd love to hear you compare and contrast the show with our religion.  There has been times that I myself have thought, "Hmm, this very well corresponds to a story from scripture" ... as well as times where I've thought "Eh, this doesn't exactly give the right kind of lesson/teaching..."  So, maybe you'd end up talking about some of the stuff I've thought to myself about in the show.

Just remember to have fun in doing so, and I'm sure you'll end up being quite successful.   :)

Not a bad idea, actually. I'd watch for sure, not just because I'm behind your effort 100%, but because I, also would like to see comparisons to the bible relating to MLP.

What is LDS doctrine, exactly?

Visit Mormon.org for that. Basically, we don't believe in the Holy Trinity, rather that God the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are unique and separate beings, single in purpose but not the same Person. We also believe in modern revelation, a living prophet, and priesthood power. Like I said, you'll need to visit that website to get the specifics.

Aah, I see! I just didn't make the connection that "LDS" stood for "Latter-Day Saints."

While I usually try to avoid subjects like politics and religion altogether-I am a fan of analyzing aspects of the show and I do think interesting theories and observations could be made.

Like with my introduction to the show, I am willing to give it a shot and approach it with an open mind before passing any sort of definitive judgment.

I would watch it as long as the Christian part didn't contradict LDS doctrine.

Whilst respecting your view, would not the fact that Henny Penny Benny ultimately wants his channel to be for Christian-oriented MLP analysis just naturally contradict the LDS doctrine?  Since, of course, Christianity is basically, primarily based upon the Holy Trinity?  Even if he doesn't directly/explicitly use the concept that they are "of one," the idea would implicitly be there, since Christianity is based on the Holy Trinity?

Correct me if I'm wrong, please!  I'm admittedly unsure about this...

Continuing on my comment, I'm not a big fan on religious things, and they don't appeal to me that much. It's not as much as me believeing the concept, it's that it makes sense tot he show. And I may be thinking too much about it. This is a kid's show with colorful ponies.

@@Miles, Christianity isn't about the Holy Trinity, even for those who believe in it (which, interestingly enough, not all Christians do, including non-Mormons). It's about the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which enables us to survive our earthly state. Different denominations offer differing opinions on the details, but that's the foundation.

And, as it happens, this particular bit of contradiction isn't really a big issue, and I can't see it being a major focus of an analysis series. A Christian-oriented analysis series on MLP would most likely focus on morals and values, and no mainstream-Christian values or morals contradict Mormon ones (although we have extra ones).

Well, I guess I kind of understand your points, however, as a Protestant Christian (a member of the United Methodist Church, not that that makes much of a difference here), I would say it's about believing that God is our Father (our Creator); that He has no beginning or end (he always was, always is, always will be); that Jesus died and was resurrected to save us from our sins; and that the Holy Spirit resides in our souls.  Maybe I'm just overthinking it, but wouldn't the fact that we (as Christians) believe that they are "all in one" (basically in the same way Catholics [which are basically Christians anyway] do)  kind of make it a big deal?  I should say that, in a sense, I'm probably naive to the whole "all in one vs not all in one" idea, due to only having been taught one way about it, and not knowing much about the idea behind yours, so I apologize if I'm making this bigger of an issue than it should be; I'm just inherently over-analytical about stuff.

On the other hand, I totally see what you mean about that point specifically (all in one vs not all in one) not being of a main focus to the OP's analysis.

The Christian Church teaches that there are no more Prophets after the bible while the Mormon church says that there are more prophets after the bible

No worries, however I think there's a different thread for debating Christianity. Let's keep this thread out of the Debate forum if we can.
