Is a live action MLP(G4) movie plausible?

I am going to use Bay's Transformers as an analogy. Quick disclaimer, Transformers and Revenge of the Fallen are passable movies and they're fun. Anything beyond Revenge of the Fallen is trash.

You're argument would be, well how can we have the G4 pony anatomy in modern CG to clash with real people? Well Michael Bay made the new Turtles......I am not defending Bay for making them look like deformed reptiles instead of the original turtle designs. But you think if we had a live action MLP, can it be mass marketed like Transformers or TMNT? Look at Transformers.. Your average dude bro would see it. Look at the new TMNT generation, it isn't meant for the 80s TMNT fans, it's meant for the original comic origins and even the 2003 cartoon.

Just some basic things for a movie to be mass marketed. I am not advocating MLP FIM to be dumbed down NO NO NO! I actually want our ponies from the show to act in the movies, as they would in the cartoon. I am advocating the cartoon canon to be implemented in a movie universe.

First plot could involve say the changelings invading the human world and wanting to stock pile humans as food after studying them for so long. The ponies of Equestria want to help the humans out of their love and compassion for all life. Queen Chrysalis can have an epic face off with Twilight or Celestia. Just have the basic concepts, but keep the original characters personas from G4 and even keep their voice actresses( Like Bay did with Cullen).

Any ideas for how we as fans could envision a great live action MLP movie?

I don't think so. The thing about Transformers and TMNT is that they're still big budget action movies with explosions aplenty. As such, they still have some appeal to people outside those fandoms. Transformers in particular is huge in China, which I don't think has a significant fan base for that IP.

I don't think MLP could have the same appeal. Bronies would see it, little girls would see it, but that might not be enough to justify spending the money to make CGI ponies (I'm assuming that a live action pony movie would make the ponies with CGI. I don't think actual horses is gonna work). Changelings and stuff would probably need to be CGI too. That stuff costs some Benjamins. I don't think a live action pony movie would be mass marketable enough to make it happen.

it COULD be possible, but as we all know

Good things arent so often made into equally good things in live action.

cough cough, Avatar, DragonBallz .. it all depends on the execution of ti all

If .. say it was done kinda like the smurfs .. a portal into the human world type of thing, following the standard movie formula of

Hero/heroine(s) meets twi and the gang

team realises they need hero/heroines(s) help in some way

they do some good

something bad happens (main guy/gal loses hope)

sad montage etc.

twi still trying to save the world, failing miserably

some form of flashback/realisation for main char(s) and faith restored

TO THE RESCUE

KIckass fight scene and explosions and rainbows etc.

after fight speech by Hero/Heroine(s) thanking ponies for being there and all that other mushy stuff

everyone says bye and goes back to whence they came (bad guy in tow if he was imprisoned, if not the magical item that gave him power with them)

hero/heroines(s) life now better than before, have picture keepsake of them and the ponygang on a desk to remind them

Happy ending YAAAY .. confetti and parties

Possibility of sequel hinted at, depending on reception of film

it could be a good movie, depending on the writing and all that. i'd definitley go watch it  ^_^

heck if i had the money i'd direct it so no hollywoodian could butcherize it

Hey there @TheMarkz0ne, I've moved your thread into Sugarcube Corner as its relating to something in the brony fandom. Please make sure to post your threads in the correct sections in the future.

I don't think so. I probably would watch it. Actually, it would likely be impossible without making the characters look awkward.

Eh, i'm not to keen on the idea. Live action movies that come from animated stuff don't have the best track record.

Plus it would probably more expensive, when they could just as easily stick to animated like they do now.

I suppose it could succeed, but i kind of doubt it would. Plus it might make the characters look awkward.

I'd rather just an animated movie if anything.

Plus the human world thing wouldn't make much sense since EqG's is mean to be their human world, more or less.

So yeah, I'm not to keen on the idea personally.

No times a billion, it would be like making Mickey Mouse or Super Mario(oh wait) live action, it would be just horrible

I don't think that would be a great idea, honestly. It's not too bad of an idea, but I doubt that this would happen at all.

I like my 2D ponehs. <3

I'd go see the movie if something like that did come out though... x3

I have mixed feelings about this.  :muffins:

I've tried to imagine this as well, but honestly I'm pretty ambivalent about this...

Maybe one day if the FOX engine is available I could get someone to try that XD

I think a live-action film would necessitate leaving Equestria, and part of the big appeal of FiM imo is the world. I kinda see enough of real-life so I think I'd like a film version better if it was set in Equestria in show-style.

It is possible, but it's not a realistic idea. Yes, there are live-action movies that we're a hit, but considering that the ponies would all have to be done in CGI (which would actually be a bit creepy), it wouldn't be right.

Maybe if you did a live-action in the sort of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" style, where the ponies were still animated and everything else was live-action. I don't think it would turn out well regardless.

I was thinking about this the other day. I think the chipmunks movie is a good example of how they could make the ponies look "real" but still look cute and like themselves:

hqdefault.jpg

I wouldn't want it to be part of Equestria Girls. They could mention that Twilight went to a similar world once but that's it. The ponies should be themselves and the main six and Spike should all be there.

I'd see it as sort of an ET thing where the ponies come to the human world and they quickly learn that they can't trust most people but some kids take them in and hide them. To make matters worse magic doesn't work in this world. I'd assume flight doesn't work either but maybe the pegasi could still glide. Then they have to find their way home. I don't know, I'm not a writer.

I dunno. I hope not. I've never liked movies where CG cartoon characters interact with live-action people. The two styles clash and it never looks right. Plus, giving super-deformed cartoon characters realistic eyes, skin texture, or fur/feathers makes them look very creepy and pushes them into the uncanny valley.
