I seriously don't get it. Why do so many people like Adventure Time? The show doesn't have a storyline, everything happens at random, it's poorly animated, badly written, farfetched, and just completely retarded in every sense of the word...So why does everybody like the show?
 

Heck I even heard that the creator of the show said that it was meant to be stupid...(Which it is. It is very stupid.) So why is it so popular?
 

Honestly this show is just stupid and nothing but stupid...It literally feels like it was made completely and only for idiots...(No offense to any Adventure Time fans) But seriously I think that this show is just retarded...

What happened to all the good cartoons like Dexter's Laboratory, Ed Edd n Eddy, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, Courage The Cowardly Dog, and The Powerpuff Girls etc? And well other shows in general that seem to have a solid plot and motivating story? Is it just because I was born in 1989 that I don't like this show?

Yeah, the show is pretty crap.  I gave it more than one chance, but it just continued to disappoint me.  I don't see the appeal to anyone past the age of 11.

I think a lot of people like the absurdity and randomness of it. In a world with such a short attention span nowadays it seeems that you don't really need a plot or compelling characters to entertainmpeople, just some humour and randomness (same reason why people like family guy so much. Ysah it's dumb, but you don't have to think when you watch it.

 

That's my two cents on it. Nothing against adventure fime fans, I just don't see the appeal of the show myself.

I don't follow the show, but let me tell you about the episode of Adventure Time that I saw:

 

The vampire character (forgot her name :/ ) invites the ice king to some basket ball game, and the other characters ask her why. We then see a flashback of the vampire character as a child. The Ice King, named Simon now( I think), is watching over her in what seems to be a post apocalyptic earth. They find this crown that gives Simon ice powers, but erodes his sanity every time he uses it. As the episode progresses, the two travel the blasted landscape looking for food and stuff. The kid seems like she's having a hard time with it, and Simon does his best to cheer him up. Simon is forced to use the crown a few times, and the vampire kid begs him to not use it again. Finally they get swarmed by what I think are suppose to be zombies. Despite the kids pleas, he uses the crown again to fight them off, knowing that this time his sanity will be lost for good. He basically sacrifices his sanity to save her, becoming the weird, loser character that is the Ice King. I thought the episode was surprisingly touching.

 

I think this illustrates why people like Adventure Time. It's got a lot of quirky humor that isn't for everyone, but it also has a lot of genuine emotion in it, based on what I've seen. From what people tel me, it also has a lot of narrative that spans the whole of the show. It isn't really my thing, but I wouldn't call it a bad show. It just requires a certain sense of humor from the audience, which I think is fine.

I will say I do find it overrated but not the worst thing I've seen. There were some good elements like the fact that it reminded me of a video game. I guess maybe that's the appeal but for modern Cartoon Network shows, I find Regular Show better.

I have given the show a few tries but still dont really like it. Its doesnt really entertain me. Regular show on the other hand is pretty good.

I know a couple of Adventure Time fans, and heck I've even watched a few episodes, but one of the factors to consider is the level of engagement. It seems that the show is always adding elements of surprise and humour to entertain the audience and It's already into the action from the beginning of the episode!

 

I'm not too keen on it myself, nor do I understand the hate, but it's a decent show regardless.

I was bored one day so starting watching it on Netflix. At first I was like... why am I watching this? Why is it popular? It has since grown on me. Not in nearly the same way as FiM, Futurama, Invader Zim, or any of the other countless shows on my list, but it's good when I just want to sit back and be entertained by something stupid. There is a very shallow story arc behind it, but it's just barely there.

 

It's 100 times better than Family Guy though, so given the choice I'd rather rot my brain on Adventure Time than that garbage.

I find it very interesting actually. Adventure Time takes place in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where there's all kinds of crazy random things. It's very quirky and different which is why people like it. However I do like Regular Show more. However I don't think it's overrated. It's still better than a lot of modern Spongebob episodes or Fanboy & ChumChum which was it's sister show.

From what I've seen, I very much doubt that is the case. The show has too large of a fanbase and and skilled fanart to just be a bunch of preteens. You can have your opinions on something, but going all tumblr on something doesn't make them true.

Skilled artists I'm sure love random things.  Sparks creativity.

But even based on this thread alone, the majority have said they don't like it, and that's not even counting the 'meh's.

There are still some good shows like, The Looney Tunes Show, The Tom and Jerry Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, etc. And should you need some [retro] Cartoon Network, Boomerang has a lot of those shows. For me to watch Adventure Time, I'd have to be REALLY bored out of my mind.

I haven't watched too much of the series. I've caught a few episodes and thought they were okay. They got me to chuckle a bit, but nothing to get too excited over. However, I haven't watched that much of the show so there's probably some better ones.

 

 However I'm wondering how many of the people in this thread have tried watching more than just an episode or two? Some people are complaining about a complete lack of story, which even I know isn't true. The show actually does have a storyline to it, and some genuine emotional moments. I know this just from watching a few clips of some of the later episodes. Specifically of one titled "I remember you" which even messed with my heartstrings a bit.

 

 It seems to be a very quirky kind of show. One with quirks that will make you either love it or hate it. It's weird and random, but not entirely without reason. I'm not sure it's something I'll ever love like some people do, but I can see why they would love it.

There's a point to it though. And it's something that you have to learn the reason of as you watch the show.

 

 

 

So why does everybody like the show?

 I like the show because it's ballsy. It tackles some themes I have never seen another children't show cover. Even Samurai Jack doesn't quite get there, for as close as it gets, and I respect the hell out of Samurai Jack for the same reason. I also love the characters, from the sad and lonely Ice King to the Mary Sue-esque Finn to the incredibly lazy Jake and everyone else. I also love the world building they have. Some of the best on TV that isn't Avatar or MLP, honestly.

 

You're just going to have to realize, you probably don't like Adventure Time because you haven't watched enough of it, and/or you personally don't like the humor and ideas presented.

Kind of like we are into MLP it may have quite some humor and I got to say half of it is pretty funny I don't watch much of it however I do know the humor is pretty good random and cheerful so I'm alright with it myself...

I personally do not like the show - not that I dislike it either, it's just not my type of show - but it's easy to understand why some people love it the way they do.

 

There's aspects that annoy me, like the juvenile sense of humor being turned up to 11 and the constant screaming, but it has moments of depth to it that feels like the Marianas Trench (like Banul's example) and it's very quirky and off-beat, making it fun to many people. 

 

While it's far from my favorite show, that's just my personal taste and preference. I'm no expert, I can't help but feel that this kind of bashing is reminiscent of Rarity-bashing because it feels as if you're just looking at it from a perspective that you want to dislike it more than anything. Oh well - I don't live inside of your mind, but I do think that you could treat the people who like the show with a little more respect It's not *that* bad, and this is coming from someone who generally will find something else to watch if that show is on. You're talking about it like it's Breadwinners or something
