Administrator Ice Princess Silky <3 13,213 August 7, 2014 Administrator Share August 7, 2014 It's interesting. Because it's a joke relating to the 1950s. When girls had to pretend to be stupid in order to egoboost the males. So is that what they're suggesting. Also, are we to assume those who find these "jokes" comical are white heterosexual men? I certainly hope so! It would be critically ironic if a guy with dark skin color were to make a derogatory term pertaining to the 1950s towards a female. So, in conclusion, not only is the joke not funny.. but it's limited to only a select few. They might as well wear KKK caps while they're at it. LightningMana 146 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 Depends, on if she's spending too much time gaming and neglecting basic life skills such as cooking food or keeping up with dishes If someone says "hey get into the kitchen and cook or do something" to get the girl to contribute to the household, then no probably not so stupid. But "husband's slave" is pretty dumb yes like "Hey woman, do man a favor and bake 'em a pie" Avatar designed by my beloved VinylShadow~ ~~~COMMISSIONS OPEN~~~ http://mlpforums.com/topic/102640-lightning-mana-custom-pony-figure-commissions/
Jonquil 20 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 Yep. To clarify, I love guys and I Iove goofing off with guys. I grew up with a lot of older brothers and male cousins, and I've never had a problem getting along with a pack of guys - especially if they're geeky or nerdy. The problem is not me. "Go to the kitchen" and other such jokes aimed at women in video games are just tired and unfunny. Thank goodness the men in IT are more sophisticated smartasses.

Administrator Sir Hugsalot 9,186 August 7, 2014 Administrator Share August 7, 2014 Am i the only one that find people telling gamer girls to go to the kitchen and be your husband slave a stupid concept? No, You are not only person who says this. I think that it only shows how big jerks some guys are. I'd be more than fine with girlfriend/wife doing, what she likes doing for as long as it does not mean not spending time with me. And kitchen/chores stuff? I see no reason, why shouldn't I participate in it as well. Some guys are primitive thinking that their wife should do all the chores and it annoys me hard >< 2 As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person. Mr F 1,522 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 "telling gamer girls to go to the kitchen" It is kind of a bad excuse to get rekt. It never really was funny. The first time I heard it, I had to ask what it ment. "husband slave" I have never heard that one before, really. (Really cool signature)
Justin_Case001 4,876 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 I actually don't play a lot of public multiplayer games. The vast majority of online gaming I do is just private with my group of real life friends. 4v4 L4D2, Sanctum 2, private Minecraft servers, etc. So I don't hear much of the raging, insult flinging, and general immaturity in multiplayer games. I have, however, played a helluva lot of public Halo CE back in the day. My policy was always to never speak. In all the years and hundreds of hours (maybe thousands), I never uttered a word in any game. My policy was just to play and sit back and watch the raging and laugh at it. Comments like this husband slave thing are just stupid jokes from immature players that are getting owned and they're grumpy about it. This kind of thing is just so stupid that it's funny. I honestly got a kick out listening to the raging and insults. In some games, trolls would just try to come up with the most offensive insults possible just to get a rise out of people. Hey, go for it. While you're busy typing "F*cking n*gger b*tch," I'm busy putting a sniper round through your head. Not to toot my own horn, but I was one of the better Halo CE players out there. I would typically stick to Slayer, and when I was in my prime, I would win about half the games I played, and the other half I would come in a close second. People would rage at me all the time and call me all sorts of stupid stuff. Of course the number one thing I heard was that I was hacking. Aimbot this and aimbot that. Pfffft. I just found it funny. I often saw this guy called the_Drifter. I really respected him because he, like me, never spoke a word. He was also damn good. An honorable warrior. When he was in a game with me, it would always be me and him competing for 1st and 2nd. So many times it came down to both of us needing 1 frag for the win, and often times we'd end up squaring off against each other for the final kill. It sort of became a friendly grudge match kind of thing. Good times. Sorry, that kinda got way off topic. And kitchen/chores stuff? I see no reason, why shouldn't I participate in it as well. Some guys are primitive thinking that their wife should do all the chores and it annoys me hard >< On that point, I've always felt like I would be well suited to be largely a stay-at-home husband and do all the housework and cooking. I've long hoped that I can find a woman who wants to be the primary breadwinner, and is comfortable with that arrangement.
Envy 6,129 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 Yeah, like "le get back in the kitchen! what, you dont want to have sex with me? hurrr stupid friendzoning SLUTS, 4channe warned me about you! why dont the nice guys ever win? ((((((" The sad thing is that I saw this very thing play out on these very forums. A member posted a kitchen joke and then managed to turn around and spout stereotypical "Nice Guy" nonsense, all in one post. (vaguely wording that as I don't remember exactly what was said, but it was very much what I'm describing). Everything needs more woodwind! mars 4,862 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 If my husband/boyfriend told me to go the kitchen and my job is to clean the house not play video games i will not hesistate to break up with you whatsoever. I'd like my husband/boyfriend to play video games with me. Same here. Though if I had one, he wouldn't be douchey enough to tell me that in the first place.

Celtore 2,770 August 7, 2014 Share August 7, 2014 It's very stupid. Gaming is something that anyone can do; it's a hobby, something you do for fun. It's even more ridiculous when you remember that people younger than twelve are playing certain games clearly rated for an older demographic, they should be watching the magic school bus!(sarcasm) Speaking for myself, I like to bake every so often and I've never had a woman yell at me "lol get back to the couch and play video games!" Thank goodness life isn't an MMO, eh?

Administrator Ice Princess Silky <3 13,213 August 8, 2014 Administrator Share August 8, 2014 Depends, on if she's spending too much time gaming and neglecting basic life skills such as cooking food or keeping up with dishes If anyone is playing games instead of tending to real life, I think there are wiser (and more helpful/productive) words to spare than just "get back in the kitchen.." especially with the rude tone that the OP is referring to... that isn't ever excusable. If someone is using games to neglect real life or to use as escapism.. they need help, not criticism. :c
Zygen 6,066 August 8, 2014 Share August 8, 2014 Well, obviously any insult pertaining to something like "Get back in the kitchen" or whatever is just dumb. It's based off dumb stereotypical behaviors, and it's also plain out sexist. It's simply sexist, not to mention the most overused insult ever, or atleast certainly up there. So not only are they using an incredibly overused attempt to be funny, but they're being a sexist jerk. And as further proof that these stereotypes are outdated, guess who does most of the cooking in my family? My brother and my Stepdad. My Mom actually doesn't cook all that often. And on the other end she is the one who works, I mean, my stepdad does his own work, but he's not directly making money from it. My biological Dad works too, and frankly I know many people who's parents both have to work anyways, and considering my Dad is on his own he has to work anyways. But i'm getting off topic, the point is, these stereotypes are outdated, as well as dumb in the first place. I don't like Stereotypes, and especially not gender stereotypes, so I especially dislike this type of behavior. I personally don't encounter it much, but regardless it is still stupid. We even have a girl in our group in skype of people I play games with and talk to. And i've played stuff like League with her, and she plays just as well as anyone else. If not better. There is no reason she couldn't kick me ass if she wanted, (infact she probably could, i'm not very good at League, but that's another story ;p.) Tl;dr, yes, that is a stupid, outdated, uncreative, and sexist comment. It's sad to think some people can actually think this would be considered funny, or even worse, true. Truly sad. 111111 111 August 8, 2014 Share August 8, 2014 Probably gaming is for males, as MLP is for females.Dont get angry with it. With all respect, BULLSHIT! gameing is a way to entertain you (no,not the song xD). As such it's open to both guys'n'gals. I heard about a girl slaying in gears of war, you say that she are not suppose to? I'm not trying to be mean but I want a gaming community open for all genders.
