-Help- How to tell people you're a Brony?

Speedy Transition

Recommended Posts

Simple, just tell them that you watch it for the plot, they then might understand why you're a Brony.

I have found that if you have otaku friends (friends who watch anime on a regular basis, and not just mainstream anime either) they will find out about my little pony by themselves. I found out about my little pony from this

I was just perusing around youtube one day hopping from amv to amv when I stumbled upon this , this would be what my face looked like when I saw this.

Just change your Facebook (if you have one) profile picture to an epic picture of your favorite pony. That's what I did. I don't think it should be that big of a deal unless you make it one.

You just need to drop subtle hints that you enjoy the show. For example, make a video to show your friends and drop a hint. I, for, example, use very discreet ways of showing my love for the show:

Who cares what other people think about bronies? If they really love you, then they'll accept your beliefs. My parents were shocked at first, which is normal, but now they take it like a normal thing. My mom even gave me a pony birthday card. So it works for me

Not sure why anybody feels like this is something to be confessed. I don't make it a point to tell everybody that I'm a Trekkie, or that I'm a fan of Drizzt, or anything else. If it's the topic of conversation or there's an opportunity for a segue then I'll bring it up, otherwise there's really no reason. The only exception I would make is if somebody seems they would be the type to like it, because I wouldn't miss the chance to turn somebody on to something new they could enjoy. I wear pony shirts in public but have yet to be asked about it. When it comes to friends, parents, or anybody who is at all likely to fly into a rage over a children's TV show or is too lowbrow even to attempt to understand it, best to leave them in the dark. Don't bring it up.

My parents are the type to love me regardless of my interests or tastes in media, which is how it should be. I'm terribly sorry for anybody who doesn't have that kind of relationship with their parents. They'll also hear me out when I try to explain something and give my thoughts full consideration before making any kind of judgment. As for my friends, I only have two people I would call friends, and they're both very understanding; they have some unconventional tastes themselves. There were a handful of others I used to call friends, but they were very angry people who ridiculed everything that wasn't exactly to their liking. Not about to spend my time with people who won't like me for who I am, and I'm not going to spend the rest of my life fronting either.

For me, all I did was tell them and we laughed about it. They accepted me for who I was, so if any of your friends don't accept you because you like it, they are not a true friend.

It's not a big deal. Just say, 'Hey, I watch this cartoon called Friendship is Magic... it's part of the My Little Pony franchise, but it's, like, a reboot of the series that all audiences can enjoy, it's not just for girls anymore like it used to be, it's got this huge diverse fanbase and everything. I totally recommend checking it out.' ;)

You shoukd not say things like that. You should almost be ashamed of yourself, its part of who you are

Maybe my community was more understanding, but when I heard that My Little Pony was reairing I wanted to watch it immediatly. I wass browsing tv and saw it was on and immediatly clicked it, catching the last few minutes. Curiousity was all it was, but I was interested. My mother walked in the room and I never hide anything from her. She teased me at first, and my reply was

"Shit yes I want to watch me some My Little Pony, but I can never seem to catch it when it starts!"

Always be honest. I wear my ponies around my neck on a daily basis (the McDonalds ones, Twilight and Apple Jack). I'm proud of who I am, and my friends accept me as I am, and even ask me to draw them as ponies, even if they aren't into the show.

I have also turned a few of them.

So in short, be proud of it, tell them straight up, "Hey I like MLP, dont like it, suck my dick (okay maybe not that last bit, but it worked for me, and I'm a girl)

I'm terribly sorry if I've offended you, as that was not my intended outcome. I'm not saying he should hide it away under lock and key like some kind of dirty secret, just not to shove it in people's face and down their throats. Despite the massive amount of popularity this show has gotten, it is still a fandom/hobby/interest at the end of the day, and like any other fandom or hobby you can still take part in it without shouting your love for it from the rooftops with the aid a 12-speaker assisted megaphone. If someone asks or confront you about it, then you are can answer and talk about to your hearts content but until then you should air on the side of subtetly.

Also, believe me when I say I'd be the last person to talk to about hiding something that makes you unique. I wear my Doctor Whooves shirt out in public without a care in the world after all!

It was only the way he worded it that sounded aweful, you should not hide something, but you shouldn't have to wait to be confronted by it either, just think if one of your friends was a brony, but he was afraid to say anything, if you said something, or told your friends who and what you are, you may discover more bronies and help them come out of their shell.

Not saying anything until approached isn't good either. I'm not saying shout it from the rooftops, but its something people you have known well enough should know about you if you count them as a close companion.

Well, you could just try throwing in some references in a regular discussion. If they ask what it is, you can say that you watch it in a joke-ish manner, and see how they react to that.

When i actually said something about it, it was a kind of fast-paced conversation where we talked about kid shows, and i said ''Hey, remember when i said i was going to show you a real kid's show? I meant MLP''.

Well, i said that to my dad's girlfriends daughter (who's 18), but my dad was also sitting there. She then said something like ''Oh yeah, i know there's a lot of guys who watch that show'', and i said ''Yep, seen every episode''. Then she just went ''Oookay...'', but not in a serious ''Shit, we have a gay over here'' manner, but a more like a joke. They didn't speak about it any more after, though.

Then I showed her an episode and she bought a t-shirt for me with Discord on :D

Wait, on the internet or in a retail store?

Merged your thread with an already existing one - luckily for you, there was already someone who was inquiring about how to tell people that they are a brony. :)

You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Just tell them or... just tell them... what? You want to leave a note on the couch that says 'I R watching pownies dad' or something? Telling is the most natural way .-.

Just tell them? I mean, it's a show you watch, what's the big deal? In what way might you tell someone you watch CSI? Or How I Met Your Mother? Tell them that way.

I told two people I know just today. Nobody cared, one of them actually knew who Rainbow Dash was, which was cool.

The only reason not everybody I know is aware I'm a brony is because it doesn't necessarily come up in conversation. It's a little weird to just blurt it out for no reason. So yeah, I fall firmly on the side that it's really a non-issue. Of course, other people may be in different situations, so that may not apply. But if the people you know are generally open minded or tolerant, they won't care.

If you're happy and you know it you're unusual.

But that doesn't mean it's not worth trying~

I just tell my friends bluntly. But they're pretty used to me doing that anyway ^^

But to be honest, There are alot of proud bronys in my place and i'm a pretty confident (CRAZY) sort of guy anyway, So i'm not toooo fussed about what people think about me. ^^

Sorry it doesn't help too much, though D=

tbh, dont treat being a brony like its a sexual orientation. there is really no need to make a big deal about it and tell people. if you want them to find out, just dont hide the fact that you like the show. i.e. desktop wallpapers, shirts maybe, phone wallpapers, just dont make a huge deal about it because then people will think its a bigger deal than it actually is

I just prefer to leave subtle hints or the merchandise around. Than telling people I am if they ask about it.

If they don't ask I don't bring it up. I know it's weird but to many threads here equate telling people you're a brony to that of coming out of the closet, and to me that's just weird.

  • 1 month later...

I would tell my family but my twin sister is the most judgmental person I have ever met and she also views people as their stereotypes for example for a test to see how she would react to me telling her i'm a brony i asked her what she though about gamers here are her words exactly "They are sad nerds who sit around their house all day with no life and play their little games and not having a social life." You see this is why I can't tell my family and as of my friends here is an example of how they would react. There is a guy in my class who loves Adventure time my 'friends' call him so many names I always stand up for him, he is my friend but if i told one of my friends for example my friend Lee he would never shut up about it and he would tell everyone in the school i like and watch my little pony... This shows I only have one person to actually trust to tell them i'm a brony and it is my friend i mentioned earlier who watches adventure time. Please if anypony has advice for me please tell me.

Blagh. Buck them all. Now I can understand hiding bronism, but being made fun of over Adventure Time is crap. And if you want to tell your friend, tell him. I always did it subtlety though. Hinting to the person I was a brony until they finally got it. Alot if people still don't know though, so I know that feel bro.

P.S: Adventure Time is the SHIT!

I would come up with it when someone does first. Example:"What do you think of My Little Pony?" then reply "I'm a brony!" or something similar.

If someone's wearing a t-shirt, brohoof them. ;)
