Okey everyone, I haven't found this one yet, so I think I will ask you guys. I bet there are some Warhammer 40K fans out there so my question for you is... what is your favourite faction and why?

 

I have a huge hard-on for the Eldar. I haven't played the table-top game yet, but I like their lore and they are pretty cool in the video games. I always love mobile factions and classes that allow for a lot of tactical gameplay and the eldar  fill that spot perfectly. They are also very mysterious and "Magic" heavy (As in, they use the warp quite well). Their vehicles also look neat, with all of their swift looking models.

 

I guess that sums it up. I also have a special spot for the necrons, because they are bad-ass and a certain love for the orks... because they are funny with all of their gunz and red vehicles xD

I have been playing Warhammer 40k for almost 5 years.  I originally started with the Tau, which I absolutely loved when the first came out, great theme, great models, and excellent rules for play on the tabletop.  Unfortunately the last codex release turned them into a rather one dimensional army, and they just aren't as enjoyable to run as they used to be.

 

I have since started an Eldar army.  These guys are awesome, and completely ridiculous if your using the new maelstrom of war rules.  Much more interesting to play and far more varied than the Tau.  I absolutely love their aircraft even if they are fragile as sin (the Tau aircraft are just plain awful).  They can ally with the Tau  without problems so I can use both armies together when I want to, so I can use the interesting aspects of Tau while leaving most of the boring stuff behind.

My favorite faction in WH40k are the Spess merherens (WE ARE TEH EMPRAH'S FUREH!)

 

Next would be the Chaos Space Marines, which by the way, Eldar, send my regards to Slaanesh after I have slain you and your kin!

I've been a big Tyranid fanatic ever since I got into Warhammer 40K. I own a small Tyranid army, though I still haven't painted them. I might not considering I haven't been into the tabletop side of the franchise for a while, but I still enjoy playing games like Dawn of War II or Space Hulk, which both feature Tyranids being beasts.

 

A close runner up to the Tyranids would probably be the Imperial Guard since I get a big Empire from Star Wars feel from them, especially with those Sentinels.

Chaos has to be my favorite. It combines the baddass weaponry of the space marines, but the awesome over the top 2edgy4u magic and service to deamons. I own a smallish chaos warband, and I really should get into tabletop again.

Favorite factions would be:

 

Raven Guard Spess Mahreens

I like their calculating, intelligent approach to war. Fast lightning strikes into the heart of the enemy, and when they turn to fight back there is only shadow.

 

They are also one of the nicer chapters, Kayvaan Shrike (What a guy!) rescuing Imperial Guard regiments that are in trouble, close ties to the population of their homeworld, being fierce enemies of slavery because of Coraxes past.

 

They get no love from GW though...

Run of the mill humans, battling the horrors of the grim grimdark future of grimdarkness just with a t-shirt and a flashlight? Yes please.

 

Guardsmen get killed... a lot... They are weak and easily corrupted, but they hold the Imperium together. Without them, all the fancy Mahreens, Sororitas and titans would be overwhelmed by sheer force of their adversaries.

 

I like the fact that they often are modelled after real armies, but still have that 40k crazyness about them. Sanctioned Psykers, Commissars, Demi-humans. That adds spice to them!

 

Especially like the Deathcorps of Krieg... Whats not to like about (supposedly cloned) guys with gasmasks that like trench warfare and come from a planet that is literally named "War".

 

Thousand Sons

The 1k Sons are pretty tragic. Actually loyal they fell to chaos because Magnus was stupid.

 

Still, they are beyond cool. They have the Rubric Marines, empty husks of once proud Spess Mahreens, reduced to a golem like state of hollow, dust filled armour by the Rubric of Ahriman. Automatons that are psychically directed by the sorcerors of the Legion. Knowing no fear, no pain, no remorse, and no true death.

 

They are also chock-full of wizard people! And i love wizard people! And the psykers of Tzeentch are the most dangerous and mighty of them all! They burn whole armies to ashes, or mutate them into drooling chaos spawns. They rip open titans with a mere thought just as easy as they turn a man inside out! What is the strike of an chainsword for someone that can turn the population of whole hive cities into mindless slaves? And, they are still Spess Mahreens... Still able to crush the head of a man with just one hand and shatter his ribcage with one punch...

 

Also: Tzeetch is best chaos god... Just as planned indeed...

For Dark Angels, I assume it's because alot of people generally think they're being too dickish to everyone whenever it concerns 'the fallen'.

 

For Space Marines, because GW lurve space marines and is willing to wank certain chapters more than several other fan favorite chapters over them. Generally most people wished GW would offer the same level of love to other factions (especially the poor Tyranids) they give to Space Marines on a daily basis.

The IG was actually the only faction I didn't like at the start, because they seemed so generic. However, after looking in to them for a bit... I have to say that they are pretty awesome, indeed Mainly because of the reasons you listed. Now there is NO Warhammer 40K faction I don't like xD

Pretty much all of the Imperium of Man, if only for their technology, design, ships, vehicles, and weapons. Their anti-alien policy is kind of a turn off, although considering the alien species in Warhammer 40k include Orks, Tyranids, Necrons, and Dark Eldar (and the Craftworld Eldar, considering their low opinion on humanity), it's no wonder they're xenophobic.
