What was the demographic audience for My Little Pony Generation 1?

I was watching Generation 1 of My Little Pony, and I have to say it's pretty messed up. If you want to see My Little Pony be darker, watch Generation 1. It's very dark. Some of the villians try to kill the ponies, a pig and a fuzzy thing touched tongues, a lot of the episodes have a dark theme that puts Pony Land at risk, if this was for little girls, then I think they did not care about what was expected in a show for little girls. I think it's very neutral, honestly. It wasn't until Pony Tales when it started getting all girly. 

 

I know old shows had a lot of things the newer shows would not dare put in, but Generation 1 is very dark. For those who watched it, what demographic audience do you think Generation 1 would appease to most?

Tirek is in Generation 1. He's in the very first episode, in fact.

G1 definitely have some of my favorite villains, they are much more intelligent and...well...badass.

 

By the way, I remembered that the first episodes involved these flower like villains (flores?), not Tirek.

That is a bit of a dumb question. The target audience of MLP Gen 1 was obviously 34 year old men duh. No but in all seriousness it was for little girls. Its just like in Tom and Jerry where Tom would sometimes have a shotgun and shoot it at Jerry. He was trying to kill him. Its not that different.

Well G1 had a pretty similar fandom to us often being adult/teen woman never seemed to be so much men though...myself I agree yes G1 did go dark (till you watch Courage the cowardly dog) 

 

 

G1 of course also had young viewers so even they had to keep it at a level...

 

so yes G1 DID go dark I can agree...

There was no target audience for the original lineup of toys and tv-specials, other than kids, obviously.

G1’s demographic is basically the same as FIM’s: little girls. G1 isn’t very girly though, with all of the dark villains and such. It wouldn’t be surprising if boys liked it too.
