This Annual will have a 40 page main story focusing on the Power Ponies in their world and an 8 page story focusing on the Mane-iac interacting with her human counterpart which was available at SDCC earlier this year. This preview covers the first three pages of the Power Ponies story.

The people saying this looked like a fun popcorn read above? Yeah, you got it about right, now that I've been able to read through it. It was a pretty fast-paced romp through the comics universe, which had enough references that were obvious enough that someone like me with a pretty average or low knowledge of comics could catch them, but not so many or so obvious that they overwhelmed the story (and some rather sly references to the Powerpuff Girls, I suspect; or at least I saw that show at work in the narrator's "voice"). The story itself was nothing hugely special, but it was executed pretty well, which is pretty important (I'm being a bit vague here to avoid spoilers).

 

All-in-all, if I hadn't, you know, already bought it, I would definitely do so again. It's probably one of the best MLP comics made, overall, and of course it doesn't really touch on the canon universe so there's nothing to find jarring about it in that respect. I whole-heartedly recommend it.

I am pretty excited for it. It's like a mini episode plays out in each of the main comics (and side story ones), The first annual was okay, but nothing overtly special, but I hope this annual will play out in a way where it could be a full episode of the show...

Finished reading it just now. Didn't really expect anything going in. Gotta say, it was pretty good. It reminded me a little bit of the cheesy era of super heroes, like Adam Wests' Batman, but not so much that it was annoying or detracted from the story. As its own separate story from MLP, I liked it a a lot. 

 

I give it 4 Batmans out of 5

I liked this one. Even if I found myself more interested in the villains than the "heros". It felt very reminiscent of those adam west batman parodies you used to always see on kids cartoons (ie the crimson chin in the fairly oddparents). I saw parody because it certainly went over the top with it. I found the villains to be very interesting, and they did a fantastic job characterizing them in such a short span of time. It was just a goofy over the top 60s superhero comics parody and a pretty decent one at that. 

 

So for the "mane" comic itself, I'd give it a 8/10. Great writing with the villains, a fun goofy parody, I just wish the actual titular power ponies were any interesting whatsoever.

 

 

As for the maneiac side comic, I thought it was nifty as a display at comic con, but as a actual mini story it was just another shameless EqG plug. So worthless/10 as it was basically the equivalent of those comics they used to put on the back of coco puffs.

This was easily one of the most enjoyable comics I have ever read. The writers did a brilliant job with the villains, though I will agree the heroes were else interesting, though I really wasn't expecting the twist with them.

 

Overall, 9/10.

 

The side comic was all right; %100 predictable though. 6/10
