Ever been in chorus or other singing group?

So, we have a topic for marching band... but now I'm curious if anyone has ever been or is in a chorus or other singing group.

I've been in chorus for as long as I can remember. However, once I got to middle school, it all went down hill from there. I'm not a super great singer, but I also don't think I'm a bad singer. I remember having chorus in the eighth grade though, but once we moved to Arizona, I stopped taking chorus.

I was in choir for middle school, but I wasn't able to stay in it. I was gone when we did the end of year vocal exam, so the teacher used my beginning one to see if I could stay or not. I didn't find it fair, honestly.

We didn't have to take vocal exams for ours. It was based more on interest, so I've never really had a vocal exam before.

I don't think the vocal things matter. If you are beautiful according to American standards and interested in the opposite sex, you will have a high chance of making it. (Or it was just coincidence that everyone who stayed in choir were people that were considered beautiful according to what Americans thought, and none were homosexual.)

I was in the vocal ensemble throughout my middle school years, now I'm only in a Glee Club that meets once a week to sing. It's not as much as I would like but I did manage to get into a production of West Side Story this year, so I'll be doing quite a bit of singing with that.

I don't think homosexuality had anything to do with it unless you've got a particularly conservative teacher. If you've ever seen any Broadway stuff or the more professional choirs... let's just say some those guys aren't exactly straight.

The teacher was very conservative and religious. I'm glad I didn't make it because the music she had us sing were awful. I just wish I could have vocal lessons because I like singing.

Then it's very likely homophobia played a role in the decision. I believe it's technically illegal for a teacher to judge students based on personal prejudice, at least at public schools.

I've never been in chorus really, I mean, unless you count when I was really little in church.

I had my mom ask me if I wanted to join the choir they had for homeschool back when i took band, but I didn't partially because it was like all girls. So I felt uncomfortable I suppose.

Plus to be fair, I probably wouldn't have done that well having no knowledge of singing really.

Now i'm in band, and I don't really have time for chorus even if I wanted to do it at my school. Plus i'd feel kinda weird having never been in it before. And i'm not super confident in my singing, especially in front of others.

But I do enjoy singing, alone and stuff. I've even done some random cover recordings I posted in one of my blogs on here, I've done them all while I'm home alone, because I don't feel comfortable singing when my parents are home, but regardless.

All that I know about singing really though is from research online, and practice by myself.

aahh yes! choir was my absolute favorite thing about high school. I got into my high school due to a choral audition, and got admitted as a music major so I had to take choir all four years. But do I regret it? Not one bit. My last two years I was in the chamber choir and it was fun, we did a lot, we even went on a class trip to Washington DC.

I was in a school choir in primary school, and I used to sing solo in church.

Then I became agnostic and told everyone who made me sing in church to leave me alone :P

I was in choir for 3 years in High School. Did I enjoy it? Yes, for the most part, but the teacher was a bit of a perfectionist and I did not like the overly religious aspect of it, especially since it only focused on one particular religion anyways. I am an atheist, but it just seemed unfair given that there are other belief systems besides the one they heavily focused on. I did appreciate the actual music, just not the subject matter.

Originally I did not sign myself up for it, I was put into it. Then I just stayed with it because I had a couple of friends in there as well. I don't think I can sing well at all, and I have hardcore stage fright but being in a group made it a bit easier. I did not go to the concerts on my last year though, my anxiety has been gradually getting worse over the years and at that point I could not handle that. There really wasn't much of a point of me being in the class for that year.

I sing in the shower, does that count? :P

On a more serious note, as it were, I did sing in my Primary School choir.

I also participate in a volunteer singing group here in Japan. We sing to raise money for people affected by the March 11 Earthquake and Tsunami. The main guy left, though, so it's kind of in limbo at the moment.

Happy minion of The Fabulous One!

  • 3 months later...

I was in choir during middle school.

During high school I was in freshman choir, select choir, concert choir, chamber choir and the vocal jazz group.  :)

I was in choir during college too, but I didn't make it into the vocal jazz group (cuz I suck at music theory).  :(
