I never thought there was any question. Although voiced by Cathy Wesluck (Also the voice of our favorite bureaucrat, Mayor Mare), Spike is a decidedly male baby dragon. Why else would he be so infatuated with his beloved Rarity? While I am one hundred percent in favor of depicting a same sex romance, Hasbro would NEVER (Read that in Pinkie's voice) go for it.

Spike is most certainly a guy, though he is voiced by a female voice actor. There has been many instances where he was referred to as "him, he, or his". And the name "Spike" would fit a male character more accurately.

But anyways, what you've seen is just R63 fan art, and that's over 9000% not canon to the show after all.
