Do you act differently on the internet?

I think that was a pretty pointless question, a better one would be: How MUCH differently do you act on the internet than you do in public?

 

I find that I'm alot more outgoing when I'm talking to people on the internet. more likely to try and make a joke, or start up a conversation in general, etc.

 

But I also find that I'm much more open about strong feelings that I have. e.g. if someone is talking to me about a movie I don't like, I may just say something like "I don't care much for that movie" or I may not say anything at all, while on the internet, I may say something like "I can't stand that movie!"

 

I find myself being a bit more aggressive at times as well.

 

 

So how does your online behavior compare to your public behavior?

Not really, I'm practically the same but a lot of my behavior stems from the internet, such as back in middle school I was relatively quiet but the more active on message boards on the internet I got more outgoing and really broke my shell that I'd created and became an enjoyable person to be around.

On the internet i can be who I am . I can communicate and I can sosialize without any barriers I can be free.

 

Off the internet I am just a shadow who hides in corners an never talks or interacts with anyone.

I'm pretty similar, the only difference is I'm more apt to strike conversation with people, while in real life I'm way more hesitant, although I have been doing better and working on it. I also I think I'm more apt to speak what's on my mind, I'm super shy about telling people how I feel on a subject unless they are good friends, so it's better on the internet because I can get my points across easier.

I honestly think everyone acts at least a little differently on the internet, at least when you're interacting with complete strangers.

A bit. I'm much more outgoing on the internet than I am offline. Also, I unintentionally type way more formally that I speak to people. I usually curse like a sailor offline, while online I tend to use a bigger vocabulary.

Whilst I'm admittedly more sociable online, I'm still limited to some extent.. just like IRL where I won't initiate a conversation, I struggle to initiate one via PM for example (its ever so slightly easier but not that much)

To some extent yes. I find it much easier to socialize on the internet than in real life. I guess I just feel more comfortable when I can remain anonymous on the internet or something.

In real life: I'm awkward, not that outgoing, and more self-conscious about what people think.

 

On the Internet: I'm more outgoing, more free, and more blunt when talking to people on the Internet. I am more likely to crack jokes and not care what people think. I also troll people sometimes.

I'm more open about myself on the internet, whereas I'm openly bisexual here, like five people in my town know about my sexuality, only my closest friends. Mostly because my town hates non-heterosexuals since everyone else in my town are religious freaks.

IRL: I won't initiate a conversation. I'm very reserved and will pretty much only talk when someone talks to me.

 

Internet: I'm very open and will easily discuss things I would never discuss irl.

I'm not that different online compared to real life, I usually just watch things instead of participate because I'm too shy to do things   I guess doing things like posting on forums is all I really do that's different for me being online, I'm not that much of a social person.  Usually when or if I'm in a chat room I don't say anything

I actually make a point to try and act the same on the internet as I do off of it. I'm fairly sociable offline, so that translates pretty well. I do find I'm able to express myself more accurately on the internet, though. Not because of an inherent shyness offline or anything, but it's generally easier to filter/edit something before you "say" it on the internet, whereas offline I don't have that luxury.

 

That being said I've found that I've become wittier/better spoken offline as a result of that, so it seems my online mannerisms and offline mannerisms are reaching a comfortable state of homogeneity

In a way I guess I am more out going in online interactions.  That being said I am not an unsociable person, lots of people I hang out with, parties I go to (granted I'm usually dd) and I'm not afraid to say hey to someone i know if I see them as I walk around campus.  This main difference is the number of people who truly know what I enjoy.  Only about 5 of the people I hang out with regularly know about me liking mlp but only 3 know how into the show I truly am.  This is just one example though it goes from sports I enjoy to music i listen to and hobbies I have.  Where as online I have no problem telling people what do and don't enjoy.

Absolutely. It's easier to manage your online presence and I'm able to be fully opinionated. IRL, this is not so orderly. Online, you can be more open and you can ignore blockheads with little effort.

Hm can't say for sure really. Even though I'm nervous about talking with strangers in public im usually the one person doing stuff to attract attention irl in public and waving to strangers i don't even know.

 

On the web I guess my hyperactivity translates over? Good question, Buckaroo, I've never ever thought of this before. Though this is like the only forum I've posted on for about 6 years or so.

On the Internet, I'm more extroverted and like to make others happy. In real life, I'm actually a rather aggressive person who is always cautious about what others say about me. I am a very nice person on the Internet and real life, however. xP

I act pretty shy and cautious on the internet whenever I talk to someone unlike in real life were I will talk to anyone about anything all day and I don't care to much about what I say unlike the internet where I am pretty cautious about what I say

I am more or less the same person online as offline except for two areas: First of all, while I tend to be blunt and straightforward IRL, I can be even more so online. Second, online, I tend not to hesitate harming people emotionally if I think they deserve it.

On the internet, I blabber on about all sorts of things, and talk about things I'd never dare to say in real life. I'm more likely to say what I actually think, which... actually means being nicer to people than I am in real life.

 

In real life, I'm either dead silent, or I'll only talk if I have something funny to say. I'm witty, sarcastic, and rarely serious. Otherwise, I'm blunt, harsh, stoic, and straight to the point.
